Every rule on this page is quoted from the school’s, the Consortium’s or GOV.UK’s own page as read on 9 October 2026, with a link to the page or PDF it comes from. Unless a row says otherwise, dates are for Year 7 (11+) entry in September 2027, for girls in Year 6 in the 2026-27 school year; other entry points are labelled.

Can a girl living abroad apply to Queen’s Gate for Year 7 entry in September 2027?

Queen’s Gate publishes an International Applicants page, and its 11+ Guide 2027 adds a section for international candidates. The exam itself is the Consortium’s: the shared paper and how offers are decided are in our guide to the London 11+ Consortium schools. The same question across other London day schools is on London independent school 11+ from overseas, and the wider picture is on the 11+ from overseas hub and the main 11+ page.

Seeing the school from a distance

The International Applicants page says “We are always delighted to welcome prospective overseas families to visit Queen’s Gate. If you are able to plan ahead, booking a spot at an Open Day will give you a fantastic overview of our school.” It adds “We understand that many international families may have limited time whilst visiting London, in which case a private tour can be arranged and tailored to your family’s requirements. Please contact admissions to arrange a meeting.” For a family that cannot travel, the same page says “If a visit in person is not possible, we can arrange for an online meeting with our Principal, Head of Admissions or a member of our Senior Management Team.” The admissions-process page, under the application steps for “All ages, both domestic and international”, says to “Arrange a visit or online meeting by emailing admissions@queensgate.org.uk or calling 020 7594 4982”. The open events for September 2027 entry are in the timetable below.

Where the Consortium assessment is sat when a girl lives abroad

Queen’s Gate’s two documents and the Consortium’s own pages each say something about the venue. Each row gives the words and the page they come from.

International Applicants page“Interviews and assessments can also take place remotely. For assessments, we ask that your daughter’s current school invigilates examinations if possible in the first instance.”
11+ Guide 2027 (PDF), International Candidates“We welcome applications from overseas candidates. Where possible, we recommend that your daughter's current school invigilates the assessment. If this is not possible, please contact the British Council in your country to determine whether suitable facilities are available. If neither option is available, an alternative educational venue that provides invigilation services will need to be arranged.” “The Consortium does not permit assessments to be taken at home or in venues that do not meet its requirements.” “You will be asked to provide details of the proposed venue so that we can communicate directly with the invigilation provider.”
London 11+ Consortium, FAQ for an overseas applicant“Your daughter is welcome to travel to sit the test in one of our schools and please indicate to us if she can do this. If you would prefer your daughter to sit the exam overseas, please contact the Admissions team at one of your Consortium schools to find out how to proceed.”
London 11+ Consortium, Code of Practice“Candidates will either sit the assessment in their current school or at one of the Consortium schools to which they have applied, if their current school is unable to provide this facility.”

Two further rules hold wherever she sits it. The Consortium says “Candidates only sit the assessment once, irrespective of the number of Consortium Schools to which they are applying.” and the Guide says “Please note that where your daughter sits the assessment has no bearing on her application to Queen's Gate.” The Consortium’s dates for September 2027 entry are “One of Friday 27th November, Tuesday 1st December or Thursday 3rd December 2026”. Ask admissions in writing which of the three dates and which venue it will accept for your daughter, and send the details of the proposed invigilation venue the Guide asks for.

The interview and the school reference from abroad

On the interview, the Guide says “International candidates may be interviewed online where appropriate. Candidates residing in the UK are expected to attend interviews in person.” The International Applicants page puts it more broadly: “Interviews and assessments can also take place remotely.” On the reference, the Guide says “Queen's Gate will request a reference directly from your daughter's current school during November 2026.” and the Consortium says “Each Consortium school to which a candidate applies will seek a reference separately from the Head of the candidate’s current school, prior to the entrance examination.” The interview days for September 2027 entry are in the timetable below, with the two versions the school publishes.

Child Student visa sponsorship

The International Applicants page says “Queen’s Gate has a licence to sponsor international students on Child Student visas. Please contact our admissions team if you would like to discuss visa sponsorship.” GOV.UK describes the route itself: “You can apply for a Child Student visa if you’re between 4 and 17 years old and you want to study in the UK.” For an application from outside the UK, GOV.UK says “The earliest you can apply for a visa is 6 months before you start your course. You’ll usually get a decision within 3 weeks.” Our guide to the Child Student visa route sets out what GOV.UK and the Immigration Rules say; it is written for 13+ entry, so the Queen’s Gate dates on this page are the ones to use for Year 7.

The parent route and other visas

For a parent who wishes to join a child in the UK, the International Applicants page says “We can support parents of students aged 4 to 18 years old who wish to join their children in the UK under the Parent of a Child Student visa route. Please note only one parent per family may apply for the Parent of a Child Student visa and you may not work or study on this immigration route.” GOV.UK’s Parent of a Child Student page says “Your child must be aged between 4 and 11 when you apply, and be attending an independent school in the UK.” and “You can stay in the UK until your child’s visa expires or they turn 12, whichever happens first.” Working, our arithmetic from the Year 7 cohort and not a statement by the school or GOV.UK: a girl entering Year 7 in September 2027 was born 1 September 2015 to 31 August 2016, so she turns 12 between 1 September 2027 and 31 August 2028. The question to put to admissions about your own daughter is in the table further down.

A child coming as a dependant on a parent’s visa has a separate sentence: “We also welcome international students who are dependents of their parents’ visas, e.g., BN(O), Diplomatic, EUSS, Global Talent, and Skilled Worker visas, as well as many other immigration routes.” The school’s pointer for anyone unsure is “If you are unsure whether your child needs a Child Student visa, we recommend consulting the Check If You Need a UK Visa section of the Home Office website.”

Fee and deposit terms the school sets for overseas pupils

No fee figures are repeated here; the school’s fees page carries them. Its terms for overseas pupils follow. “All pupils British, EU and international – are charged the same fees, regardless of nationality or immigration status.” The fees page sets the deposit where “An applicant who has at least one parent residing permanently overseas, who is offered and accepts a place at the School, will be required to pay a deposit of one full term’s fees on acceptance of a place.” For visa sponsorship the International Applicants page says “Families are asked to settle the academic year’s fees in full and pay an administration fee for each Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) in advance of visa sponsorship.”

What is the Queen’s Gate 11+ timetable for September 2027 entry?

Every row is for Year 7 (11+) entry in September 2027, and each status is measured against 9 October 2026. Where the school’s own papers give two versions of a date, both are quoted; the questions to put to admissions are in the table after the scholarships.

What happens at Queen’s Gate once the Consortium assessment is over?

The reference and the interview

The Guide says “Our admissions process is designed to help us build a rounded picture of each applicant. We assess each candidate using three elements:” the London 11+ Consortium Assessment, a School Reference and an Interview at Queen’s Gate.

On the interview, the Guide says “All applicants are invited to attend an interview as part of our holistic admissions process. The interview provides an opportunity for us to get to know your daughter beyond her assessment results and to learn more about her interests, character and enthusiasm for learning.” Online interviews for international candidates are covered in the overseas section above.

Amazing tutors!

We arranged maths and English tuition ahead of GCSEs and both tutors were brilliant. My daughter's grades improved, and by results day she achieved two grades higher than in her mock exams.

Which scholarships and bursaries does Queen’s Gate offer at 11+?

Two of the school’s documents describe the 11+ Academic Scholarship. Both percentages are the school’s and are quoted as published; confirm in writing which applies to September 2027 entry.

No separate application is needed for the academic award: “Parents do not have to apply specifically for these scholarships as all girls will automatically be considered on the basis of their 11+ examination results, school report and interview.” The other awards are “Other Scholarships for: Art Music Drama Sport are also available at 11+ entry and parents will be given the opportunity to indicate which scholarships their daughter wishes to apply to after registering.” The school also asks for a letter: “A letter supporting your daughter’s Scholarship application will also be required from either their current Head of School or subject teacher. Please request the letter during the Autumn Term prior to the examination so that we hold this information on file when the applications are being assessed.” It warns that “A delay providing a supporting reference may mean that your daughter’s application is not considered.”
