What to Expect on Test Day at an International Pearson VUE Centre

Taking the UCAT at an international Pearson VUE centre is functionally identical to taking it at a UK centre — the test software, question formats, and timing are the same globally. However, there are practical differences for international test-takers that are worth knowing in advance:

• Identification requirements: You must bring a valid passport to your test appointment. A national ID card is accepted only at test centres in its country of issue (or, for an EU identity card, within the EU); student and school ID cards are never accepted. Ensure your passport is valid and bring it in person.
• No belongings in the testing room: Mobile phones, bags, notes, and jewellery are typically not permitted. Lockers are provided at most centres. Nothing may be taken into the testing room beyond your indoor clothing, photo ID and any approved access arrangement — this includes watches of any kind.
• Scratch paper and pencil: No physical scratch paper or pencil is provided or permitted in the testing room; the Decision Making and Quantitative Reasoning subtests instead provide a simple on-screen calculator.
• Technical issues: If the testing software malfunctions, notify the test administrator immediately and do not continue. Pearson VUE has protocols for technical interruptions that preserve your attempt.
• Arrival and check-in: Arrive 15 minutes before your appointment to complete check-in. Staff will check your photo ID and take your photograph, ask you to confirm you agree to the UCAT test rules, show you where to store your belongings, and carry out a routine security screening of clothing and any approved access arrangements — sometimes using a handheld scanner. This process is identical at every Pearson VUE centre worldwide, so international candidates should expect exactly the same check-in steps, the same test rules, and the same level of scrutiny as UK candidates — arriving late can mean losing your appointment slot entirely, with no guarantee of a same-day rebooking.

On the UCAT itself: the four subtests are presented consecutively with no breaks between them. The full test including the UCAT Situational Judgement section takes approximately 2 hours. Practise completing multiple subtests in a single session without breaks — the mental fatigue in the later sections (including SJT) is significant and needs to be practised, not just anticipated.

What if There Is No Pearson VUE Centre Near You?

If travel to a Pearson VUE centre is difficult because of distance, war, civil unrest or natural disaster, ucat.ac.uk directs candidates to online proctored testing (OnVUE UCAT) before booking. Contact the UCAT Consortium directly at ucat.ac.uk well in advance of the registration deadline. Some students in remote locations instead travel to the nearest country with a centre; plan this well ahead, since the 2026 testing window ran only from 13 July to 24 September.

Registration Timeline for International Students

UCAT registration for the 2026 cycle opened on 20 May 2026 and closed on 16 September 2026, and the last test day was 24 September 2026; the 2027 cycle has not yet opened. How Much Does the UCAT Cost for International Candidates, and What Are the 2026 Dates?

One of the most-asked questions from international candidates is simply how much the test costs and when the key dates fall — and for 2026 entry, the answer is straightforward but often overlooked. UCAT candidates testing in the UK pay £70. Candidates testing at any Pearson VUE centre outside the UK — including every country test centre listed above — pay £115, a 64% premium over the UK fee. This applies uniformly across international centres; there is no separate lower tier for particular regions or countries.

The UK bursary scheme, open to UK candidates who meet its eligibility criteria (including free school meals, a 16-19 Bursary or EMA, Universal Credit or other qualifying benefits), automatically waives the £70 fee but does not extend to the international fee. Booking for the 2026 cycle opened on 23 June 2026 and has since closed; UCAT says instructions for registering and booking the 2027 cycle will be published in March 2027, so international candidates should use the months before then to prepare passport details, preferred cities and backup dates. Access Arrangements for International Candidates with Additional Needs

International candidates with a disability, learning difficulty or medical condition can apply for UCAT access arrangements before booking their test. Available accommodations include extended time (typically 25%, though more can be approved with supporting evidence), pause-the-clock rest breaks equating to 10 minutes for every hour of testing, a separate testing room where the centre can accommodate it, and permission to keep food or water at the workstation for medical reasons. General accessibility features — screen magnification, colour contrast settings, ear defenders and coloured overlays — do not require prior approval and can be requested directly with the test centre.

The access arrangements application deadline for the 2026 cycle was 10 September 2026 at 15:00 BST, and applications for that cycle have now closed; most applications are processed within 5 working days of being submitted. Evidence typically takes the form of a signed, dated letter on headed paper from a school, college or university confirming the disability and any exam accommodations already in place; different evidence rules apply for university students, candidates outside formal education, or those with a recent diagnosis. Online Proctored Testing is available in very exceptional circumstances where a candidate's disability or medical condition means they are unable to test in a test centre.
