DfE's provisional summer 2026 GCSE maths grades for Barnet's schools, and how far apart pupils sit inside a single school.
Book a Free ConsultationLeading Tuition's GCSE maths tutors in Barnet are expert one-to-one online teachers who start from each pupil's own grade, because DfE's provisional summer 2026 results show a gap of 6 grades, at the median of the 33 Barnet schools read here, between the pupil one in ten from the top and the pupil one in ten from the bottom.
Barnet means the London borough, DfE's local authority 302. In summer 2026 Barnet's schools made 5,096 GCSE (9-1) maths entries, and DfE publishes the grades school by school.
Our expert GCSE maths tutors help pupils across Barnet at both Foundation and Higher tier, building each programme around a pupil's own school, exam board and latest mock paper.
Book a Free Consultation Message us on WhatsAppEvery school on this page is read the same way. Line its entries up from the lowest result to the highest, with U and X at the bottom. The grade held by the pupil one in ten from the bottom is the school's P10; the grade held by the pupil one in ten from the top is its P90. The gap between them, counted in grades, is the school's width.
At East Barnet School, 12.5% of the 216 entries finished on grade 2 or below, so its P10 is grade 2, and 90.3% finished on grade 8 or below, so its P90 is grade 8. Its width is 6 grades.
Queen Elizabeth's School, Barnet, The Henrietta Barnett School and St Michael's Catholic Grammar School each publish an entrance test on their own admissions pages, and their year groups sit at the top of the grade scale, so they are set aside before the comparison. Across the other 30 schools read, the median pupil's grade runs from 3 to 7. Inside those same schools the width never falls below 4 and reaches 7, with 6 at the middle school.
Among those 30 schools, the spread of pupils inside one school is therefore at least as wide as the whole range of school medians. The two small tables show how the 33 schools read fall by width, and how the 30 schools outside the three fall by median.
| Width, in grades (P90 minus P10) | Schools, of the 33 read |
|---|---|
| 0 | 1 |
| 1 | 1 |
| 3 | 1 |
| 4 | 2 |
| 5 | 11 |
| 6 | 16 |
| 7 | 1 |
| Median grade | Schools, of the 30 outside the three |
|---|---|
| 3 | 1 |
| 4 | 4 |
| 5 | 10 |
| 6 | 9 |
| 7 | 6 |
The three set aside have narrow widths for an arithmetical reason: the scale stops at grade 9. Queen Elizabeth's School, Barnet put 174 of its 192 entries on grade 9, so its P10, median and P90 are all grade 9 and its width is 0. The Henrietta Barnett School, with 73 of 104 on grade 9, has a width of 1, and St Michael's Catholic Grammar School a width of 3.
A school's median cannot tell a tutor where one pupil starts, so the first session works from that pupil's own latest mock paper and the topics that lost it marks.
Barnet here is the borough DfE reports as local authority 302, the boundary used on our A-level Maths page for Barnet. DfE's school-level data holds 50 Barnet schools, 42 of them with GCSE (9-1) maths entries, and this page reads 33. A school is read when it has at least 30 maths entries and those entries cover at least 90% of its end-of-Key-Stage-4 cohort. Thirty entries is the size at which one pupil moves a school's share by 3.3 percentage points or less. The cohort test exists because of Mill Hill Schools: DfE records 177 maths entries against 236 pupils there, 59 fewer, and the dataset does not say what those 59 sat.
DfE withholds the grade breakdown where a school has 5 or fewer entries; that withholding is DfE's disclosure control, and a total of 1 against a cohort of 16 does not mean a one-pupil school. Neither school below is described from its total. The table names all nine schools that are not read, with the entries DfE records and the pupils at the end of Key Stage 4.
| School | Maths entries | Pupils at end of KS4 | Why it is not read |
|---|---|---|---|
| Orange Tree School | 1 | 16 | Grade breakdown withheld by DfE (5 or fewer entries) |
| The Holmewood School | 1 | 16 | Grade breakdown withheld by DfE (5 or fewer entries) |
| Oak Hill School | 6 | 10 | Fewer than 30 entries |
| Susi Earnshaw Theatre School | 6 | 9 | Fewer than 30 entries |
| WENTWORTH COLLEGE | 13 | 11 | Fewer than 30 entries |
| Shiras Devorah High School | 14 | 16 | Fewer than 30 entries |
| Tiferes High School | 17 | 18 | Fewer than 30 entries |
| Menorah Grammar School | 37 | 47 | Entries fall below 90% of the cohort |
| Mill Hill Schools | 177 | 236 | Entries fall below 90% of the cohort |
Eight more Barnet schools appear in DfE's data without a maths row. DfE records GCSE (9-1) entries in other subjects for Mount House School, Brampton College and The Windmill School but none in Mathematics, and records no GCSE (9-1) full-course entries for Lubavitch Yeshiva Ketanah of London, Kisharon School, Dwight School London, Oak Lodge School or Mapledown School.
A pupil at any school on either list is tutored in the same way as a pupil at a school in the table: the programme starts from that pupil's own papers, not from a row in a table.
Our expert GCSE maths tutors teach Barnet pupils at any school, whether or not DfE publishes its grade counts, working from each pupil's exam board and latest mock paper.
Book a Free Consultation Message us on WhatsAppThe table gives DfE's grade counts for the 33 schools read, in order of the number of entries, which is not a ranking. P10, median and P90 are the grades defined above, and width is P90 minus P10. DfE defines U as ungraded or unclassified and X as absent or results pending.

The three schools with published entrance tests earned 281 of the 704 grade 9s across the 40 Barnet schools that publish a breakdown: 174 at Queen Elizabeth's School, Barnet, 73 at The Henrietta Barnett School and 34 at St Michael's Catholic Grammar School. The other 37 schools earned 423 from 4,671 entries, 9.06%, against 4.55% for England (29,063 grade 9 entries from 638,396).
A pupil on grade 8 and a pupil on grade 4 can share a Barnet classroom, and a tutor works on the particular marks each is losing, not on the school's typical grade.

No Progress 8 exists for these pupils: DfE will not publish progress measures for 2024/25 or 2025/26 because the pupils had no Key Stage 2 assessments. Nothing here measures how much a school added to a pupil's grade.
The table will not match a national headline either: DfE counts pupils at the end of Key Stage 4, while results-day figures count exam entries for 16-year-olds. The England figures here are DfE's own count of 638,396 GCSE (9-1) maths entries.
A tutor measures how far a pupil has come with a short diagnostic against the pupil's own exam board.
My son was low in confidence after COVID and the gaps in learning were building up. Using this service helped plug those gaps, rebuild confidence, and improve his ability to learn properly again.
We arranged maths and English tuition ahead of GCSEs and both tutors were brilliant. My daughter's grades improved, and by results day she achieved two grades higher than in her mock exams.
I attended an English bootcamp with Leading Tuition and the experience was excellent. The teacher gave focused attention to the small group while keeping the lessons interactive and engaging.
Sessions are one-to-one online with a shared whiteboard. A programme begins with a short diagnostic against the pupil's own school and exam board, then works through that pupil's past papers and marks them against the real mark scheme. Progress is reviewed against the pupil's own target grade at agreed intervals, and session notes go to parents after each lesson.
Foundation tier awards grades 1 to 5 and Higher tier grades 4 to 9, according to the AQA, Pearson Edexcel and OCR specifications, so our tutors confirm which paper a pupil's school has entered them for; the GCSE maths tuition page covers tiers and boards. Our maths tutoring service and GCSE tuition in Barnet pages give the wider picture, with Barnet's 2025 results. 91% of Leading Tuition students achieve their desired grades.
No. DfE published the figures on 15 October 2026 and labels the release provisional: approved result amendments that schools requested have not yet been applied. The next release is due in February 2027, so a school's counts can still change. This page reads DfE dataset version 2.0, retrieved on 24 October 2026, which counts 5,096 maths entries across 42 Barnet schools.
Nine of the 42 Barnet schools with GCSE maths entries are not in the table. DfE withholds the grade breakdown where a school has 5 or fewer entries, which removes Orange Tree School and The Holmewood School, each with 1 entry against a cohort of 16. Five schools have fewer than 30 entries and two have entries well short of their year group.
No. Across the 30 schools read outside the three with published entrance tests, median grades run from 3 to 7, yet the pupil one in ten from the top and the pupil one in ten from the bottom are 4 to 7 grades apart inside each school, and 6 at the middle school. A median describes the middle of a year group, not one pupil, so a tutor teaches from the child's own latest mock paper.
DfE records 704 grade 9 entries across the 40 Barnet schools that publish a breakdown, from 5,094 entries, or 13.82%. Queen Elizabeth's School, Barnet accounts for 174 of them, from 192 entries. For England DfE counts 29,063 grade 9 entries from 638,396, or 4.55%. These are entries by pupils at the end of Key Stage 4; every figure is provisional. Of the 40 schools, 35 recorded at least one.
DfE defines grade U as ungraded or unclassified results and grade X as pupils who were absent or whose results are pending. The 40 Barnet schools with a breakdown have 52 U entries and 18 X entries out of 5,094. The table keeps them in separate columns so each row adds up to the school's total, and P10, median and P90 treat both as below grade 1.
Results-day figures from the Joint Council for Qualifications and Ofqual count exam entries for 16-year-olds. DfE counts pupils at the end of Key Stage 4, attributed to their schools, so a school's counts here need not equal anything quoted on 20 August 2026. The England comparison, 29,063 grade 9 entries from 638,396, is DfE's own national count on the same basis.
Yes. The table reads 33 of the 42 Barnet schools with GCSE maths entries, and Leading Tuition's expert GCSE maths tutors teach pupils at any Barnet school, including the nine left out. A tutor starts from the pupil's own exam board and latest mock paper, so a school's absence from DfE's published counts changes nothing about the programme. The table is context for a family, not a condition of tuition.
A family books a free consultation through the button on this page or by WhatsApp. The first step is a short diagnostic against the pupil's own school and exam board.
