Trinity School's 2025 DfE Attainment 8 score, 16.1, and Royal Russell School's, 20.3, both come with 0.0% of pupils recorded as reaching grade 5 or above in English and maths — figures that would place two long-established independent schools among the lowest scores in this table. Neither school's own published results support that reading. Trinity School's own 2026 GCSE results, checked on 23 August 2026, report that 44% of grades were grade 9, 71% were grade 8 or above and 86% were grade 7 or above. Royal Russell School's own 2026 GCSE results, checked on 23 August 2026, report a cumulative 91.5% of grades at grade 5 or above. DfE's performance tables only count qualifications on its own approved GCSE list; a school that enters pupils for a qualification outside that list, most commonly an International GCSE, sees none of those results reflected in its Attainment 8 score or its grade 5+ figure, whatever grade a pupil actually receives. DfE's own published figures for these two schools do not measure their pupils' actual results, because those results are not in the dataset DfE is drawing from.

One further row deserves a note on its own terms. Meridian High School's 2025 Attainment 8 score, 34.2, and its 2024 Progress 8 score, -0.7, both come from a year group of 106 pupils — the smallest cohort of any non-independent school named on this page. A single year's result from a 106-pupil cohort moves more from year to year than the same measure at a much larger school, because a handful of individual results carries proportionally more weight in the average. That does not change what DfE published for 2025, but it does mean this particular figure is a weaker signal of what a Meridian High School pupil should expect than the same measure would be at a larger school, and it is worth reading alongside more than one year of data before drawing a conclusion.
