Leading Tuition is a UK tuition provider that teaches GCSE maths one-to-one to Harrow pupils at Foundation and Higher tier. DfE's provisional summer 2026 data shows where Harrow pupils finish: 622 of the 2,583 entries at the 13 schools with a published grade breakdown were graded below 4. The share runs from 6.7% at Avanti House School to 45.7% at Rooks Heath School.

Our expert GCSE maths tutors help students across Harrow at both Foundation and Higher tier, building each programme around the pupil's own mock papers, school and exam board.

Where Do the 622 Harrow Pupils Graded Below 4 Sit?

DfE counts every GCSE maths result by school and grade. The table lists the 13 Harrow schools with a published breakdown, ordered by how many of their entries were graded 3, 2, 1 or U. Grade 4 or above is everyone else. U is DfE's code for ungraded or unclassified, and X is its code for a pupil who was absent or whose result was pending.

Source: DfE, Key stage 4 performance 2025/26 (provisional, published 15 October 2026), institution-level subject entries and grades, GCSE (9-1) Full Course, Mathematics. Shares are of each school's total exam entries; X entries are in neither group. A dash means DfE shows no entries at that grade for the school; each school's grades add exactly to its total.

Across the 13 schools, 622 of 2,583 entries (24.1%) were graded below 4, and 4 more were X, which belong in neither group. The share graded below 4 runs from 6.7% at Avanti House School to 45.7% at Rooks Heath School. That is a gap of 39 points inside one borough.

Nine of the 13 schools are above England's 71.3% of entries at grade 4 or above (DfE's figure for all schools, summer 2026), and four are below it. The four are also the four with the largest shares graded below 4: Rooks Heath School (54.3%), Canons High School (55.8%), Whitefriars School (65.8%) and Park High School (70.9%), each figure being the share at grade 4 or above.

A school's share and its count are different questions. Park High School's share, 29.1%, looks moderate, yet its 73 entries below 4 are the third most in the borough, behind two schools with shares above four in ten. Nower Hill High School, at 16.7%, still has 54 entries there, more than eight of the other twelve schools.

Rooks Heath School entered 199 pupils from a Year 11 cohort of 204 and Canons High School 190 from 191, and together they hold 173 of the 622 entries graded below 4, 27.8% of them from 15.1% of the entries, so a pupil sitting between a 3 and a 4 in either school is one of many in the same position, and one-to-one tuition for that pupil works on the particular marks their own mock paper shows they are dropping, not on a re-teach of the whole course.

How Far Below Grade 4 Do Harrow's Pupils Fall, School by School?

A grade 3 is one grade short of the line, while a 2, a 1 or a U is further away or ungraded, and DfE's funding guidance for 2026 to 2027 draws the line between them (full-time students who arrive with a grade 3 must study towards a maths GCSE, while students on grade 2 or below can take Functional Skills level 2 or a GCSE), which our guide to the grade 3 rule explains in full.

In the 13 schools, 304 of the 622 entries below grade 4 are on grade 3 (48.9%) and 318 are on grade 2, 1 or U. Across England the grade 3 share of entries below 4 is 43.4%, so Harrow's entries below 4 sit somewhat nearer the line than the national pattern.

The split differs sharply by school. Five schools have more entries on grade 2, 1 or U than on grade 3, and Whitefriars School has the highest share there, with 66.0% of its entries below 4, followed by Rooks Heath School (63.7%), Canons High School (59.8%), Salvatorian Roman Catholic College (54.2%) and Park High School (53.4%). Elsewhere grade 3 is the larger group. At Hatch End High School 33 of the 56 entries below 4 are on grade 3. At Nower Hill High School it is 32 of 54.

Whitefriars School is also the one school where ungraded entries (14) outnumber grade 1 (12).

Grade 3 is the only grade below 4 that both tiers can award: Foundation runs from 1 to 5, and on Higher a few marks short of a 4 earns an allowed grade 3 under Ofqual's rules, so a school's grade 3 group mixes pupils one grade short on Foundation with Higher entrants a few marks short, as our GCSE maths tiers guide sets out.

For a pupil on a 3, a tutor works on the marks between their latest mock score and a 4, topic by topic. For a pupil on a 2, a 1 or a U, the same hour goes to the earlier topics a mock shows have not held, which is why a programme at Whitefriars School, where about two in three entries below 4 are on grade 2 or below, starts from a different place from one at Hatch End High School, where most are on grade 3.

Which Two Harrow Schools Are Split Between a Top Group and a Bottom Group?

Whitefriars School and Park High School are the only two schools where both the grade 7 or above group and the below-4 group are close to three in ten entries or more. Whitefriars School has 44 of its 146 entries at grade 7 or above (30.1%) and 50 below 4 (34.2%). Park High School has 83 of its 251 at grade 7 or above (33.1%) and 73 below 4 (29.1%).

Beside them, Avanti House School has 105 entries at grade 7 or above and 12 below 4. Canons High School has 22 and 82, and each leans heavily to one end.

In a year group that runs from U to 9, one-to-one tuition is built around where the individual pupil sits on the range rather than around the group's average: a pupil on a 3 at Whitefriars School and a pupil on a 7 at the same school need different next topics, and their own mock papers decide which, not the school's cohort figures.

My son was low in confidence after COVID and the gaps in learning were building up. Using this service helped plug those gaps, rebuild confidence, and improve his ability to learn properly again.

What Can DfE's Provisional Figures Not Tell a Harrow Parent?

These figures are provisional. DfE says so in its Key stage 4 performance release, published on 15 October 2026 for grades announced on 20 August 2026, adding that approved result amendments schools have requested are not yet applied, and its next release is due in February 2027, when a school's counts may change.

DfE publishes no Progress 8 for this cohort, because pupils in 2024/25 and 2025/26 had no key stage 2 assessments to measure progress from. The table therefore shows where pupils finished, not how far they travelled, and it is no judgement on the teaching at any school in it: a school's intake shapes where its pupils start.

To appear in the table a school needs at least 30 GCSE maths entries, because at 30 entries one pupil moves a school's share by 3.3 points. Two of the 15 Harrow schools with a GCSE maths row in the DfE data fall under that cut. Gesher School has 2 entries and 11 pupils at the end of Key Stage 4, and its grade breakdown is withheld. Heartwood House has 3 entries and 13 pupils, and its breakdown is withheld too. Both are small schools, and DfE withholds the grade breakdown wherever a school has 5 or fewer entries, so this is disclosure control and not a school where nobody was graded. Neither school has a grade or a share attached to it here. No school sits between 3 and 142 entries, so any cut from 6 to 142 would leave the same 13.

Harrow School, North London Collegiate School and The John Lyon School, with 154, 136 and 123 pupils at the end of Key Stage 4, have no GCSE (9-1) maths row in this DfE data, so none of the three appears above. Our guide to GCSE tuition in Harrow sets out what each school's own curriculum pages say about its maths courses.

The figures are by school, not by home address, so a Harrow family whose child attends a school in another borough will not find that school above. They count entries, not pupils, though at these schools the two are close: 2,583 entries against 2,603 pupils at the end of Key Stage 4 in total, and between 96.4% and 100.7% school by school.

A tutor does not start from this table. A tutor starts from the child's own mock papers, school and exam board, and the table is useful only for suggesting which end of the grade range a Harrow school's year group is more likely to need.

How Does Leading Tuition Teach GCSE Maths to Harrow Pupils?

Our expert GCSE maths tutors teach Harrow pupils one-to-one, at Foundation or Higher tier and on whichever exam board their school enters (AQA, Edexcel, OCR or WJEC Eduqas), and each programme starts from the pupil's own mock papers and school reports rather than a generic syllabus.

Three starting points follow from the figures above. A pupil on grade 3 works on the marks that separate their latest mock score from a 4, topic by topic, using past papers marked against the real mark scheme. A pupil on grade 2, 1 or U begins with the earlier topics the mock shows have not held, so that Foundation questions become reachable before exam technique is added. A pupil already above 4 who wants a 5, 6 or higher works at the next boundary up, and sixth-form students can continue in our A-level maths tutoring in Harrow.

91% of our students achieve their desired grades, and a call is the first step: it covers the pupil's tier, exam board and target grade before any lesson is booked.

Our expert GCSE maths tutors help Harrow pupils on a grade 2 or below as well as those a few marks short of a 4, starting from the topics a mock paper shows have not held.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many Harrow pupils were graded below 4 in GCSE maths in summer 2026?

At the 13 Harrow schools with a published breakdown, 622 of 2,583 entries (24.1%) were graded 3, 2, 1 or U, and 4 more were X, meaning absent or result pending. Of the 622, 304 were on grade 3 and 318 on grade 2, 1 or U. These are DfE's provisional 2025/26 school-level figures, published on 15 October 2026. DfE counts entries rather than pupils, though at these schools the two are close: 2,583 entries against 2,603 pupils at the end of Key Stage 4.

Which Harrow school has the most pupils graded below 4 in GCSE maths?

Rooks Heath School has the most, with 91 of its 199 entries below 4 (45.7%). Canons High School follows with 82 of 190 (43.2%). Park High School has 73 of 251 (29.1%). Share and count differ: Whitefriars School has 50 of 146 entries below 4 (34.2%), a higher share than Park High's but fewer entries. These show where pupils finished in summer 2026, not how far they travelled, because DfE publishes no Progress 8 for this cohort.

How many Harrow pupils are one grade short of a 4?

Across the 13 schools, 304 entries were on grade 3, which is 48.9% of the 622 entries below 4, against 43.4% in England. Park High School has the most on grade 3, with 34. Hatch End High School, Rooks Heath School and Canons High School each have 33. For a pupil in that group, tuition starts from the topics their latest mock paper shows are costing the marks between their score and a 4.

Are DfE's 2025/26 GCSE maths figures final?

No. DfE says the data in its Key stage 4 performance release is provisional: the release was published on 15 October 2026, covers grades announced on 20 August 2026, and does not yet apply the result amendments schools have requested. DfE's next release is due in February 2027, so a school's counts may change, and the figures here describe summer 2026 only. DfE also publishes no Progress 8 for this cohort, so no school in the table has a progress score.

Why are Gesher School and Heartwood House not in the table?

A school needs at least 30 GCSE maths entries to appear in the table. Gesher School has 2 entries and Heartwood House 3, and DfE withholds the grade breakdown wherever a school has 5 or fewer entries, so neither has a published grade. Both are small schools, with 11 and 13 pupils at the end of Key Stage 4, so the withheld rows are disclosure control, not schools where nobody was graded. Any cut between 6 and 142 entries would leave the same 13 schools.

Why are Harrow School, North London Collegiate School and The John Lyon School not in the table?

DfE's 2025/26 school-level data has no GCSE (9-1) maths row for any of the three, although each has other exam rows and a full year group: 154 pupils at Harrow School, 136 at North London Collegiate School and 123 at The John Lyon School at the end of Key Stage 4. Without a row there is no grade to report, so nothing about their maths results should be read from the absence. Our guide to GCSE tuition in Harrow sets out what each school's own curriculum pages say about its maths courses.

Do these figures show which Harrow school teaches GCSE maths best?

No. They show where each school's pupils finished in summer 2026, and a school's intake shapes where pupils start. DfE publishes no Progress 8 for this cohort, so there is no measure of progress from key stage 2, and the table makes no claim about teaching. What it does show is the spread: 6.7% of entries below 4 at Avanti House School against 45.7% at Rooks Heath School. That is a gap of 39 points inside one borough.

How can tuition help a Harrow pupil who is between a grade 3 and a grade 4?

A programme starts with a call covering the pupil's tier, exam board and target grade. The tutor then works from the pupil's latest mock paper, marked against the real mark scheme, to find the topics where marks are being dropped, and spends the lessons there instead of re-teaching the course. 304 entries across Harrow's 13 schools were on grade 3 in summer 2026, so the position is common, and 91% of our students achieve their desired grades.
