A-level Further Maths in Leeds is entered by 22 of the 31 sixth forms DfE tracks inside Leeds for 2024/25. Eight name an exam board on their own course page — all eight name Pearson Edexcel, yet only three publish the same pair of optional papers. Leading Tuition tutors A-level Further Maths across Leeds, built around whichever pair a department has actually entered.

No page ranking for ‘a-level further maths tutors in leeds’ names a Leeds provider, an exam board or an optional paper — the top results are marketplace tutor-profile listings with no local school named. This page verifies all three from each provider’s own course page.

Which Leeds Sixth Forms Entered Students for A-Level Further Maths in 2024/25, and Which Entered Nobody

DfE’s institution-level subject value-added dataset lists 31 school-level providers inside the Leeds local authority boundary (LA 383) for the 2024/25 academic year. Of those 31, 22 return a row for A-level Further Mathematics — 11 with a published value-added score and 11 suppressed because the cohort is too small for DfE to disclose — and 9 return no Further Mathematics row at all.

A missing row is not automatically a missing course. Four of the nine — Benton Park School, Rodillian Academy, Lawnswood School and Gateways School — do enter students for plain A-level Mathematics: 14, 12, 9 and 7 entries respectively in the same 2024/25 dataset, so their sixth forms exist and teach maths at this level; they simply carry no separate Further Mathematics row. Benton Park’s own subjects-entered table publishes entry counts as low as one student — one AS Chemistry entry, one A-level Music entry, one A-level Physics entry — so a Further Mathematics count of zero here is a genuine nil rather than a number DfE has suppressed for being small.

Benton Park’s own site contradicts that nil, at least for today’s cohort: its sixth form curriculum menu currently lists ‘Maths Further Maths’ as a subject on offer, and the department’s own subject guide names Pearson Edexcel as the exam board with a grade 7 GCSE Maths requirement. A DfE nil for 2024/25 is a statement about that year’s entries, not proof the course has never run or will not run again — the school’s live prospectus is the fresher source here, and in this case it contradicts the DfE row.

Lawnswood School’s own route into Further Maths is a joint sixth form: its prospectus, run with Ralph Thoresby School as the Lawnswood and Ralph Thoresby Sixth Form Partnership, lists A-Level Further Maths with a 7+ GCSE Maths entry requirement, inside a shared sixth form of more than 300 learners across both schools’ sites.

At the other end of the provision scale sits Leeds Mathematics School, a dedicated maths and further maths sixth form that, on its own admissions page, states it has ‘no catchment area’ and is open to ‘high-attaining Year 11 students from all schools within Leeds and the Yorkshire region’. Every other provider on this page draws from its own existing Year 11 cohort; Leeds Mathematics School is built to recruit across the whole city and beyond it.

Every Leeds Department That Names an Exam Board Names Pearson Edexcel

Eight Leeds providers state an exam board for A-level Further Maths on their own course pages: Leeds Mathematics School, Elliott Hudson College, Notre Dame Catholic Sixth Form College, Roundhay School, The Grammar School at Leeds, Pudsey Grammar School, Benton Park School and Guiseley School. All eight name Pearson Edexcel. None names AQA, OCR, OCR B (MEI) or WJEC.

Pudsey Grammar School is the only one of the eight to publish the specification code on its own site: its course page states that ‘all students will study for the Pearson Edexcel Level 3 Advanced GCE in Further Mathematics (9FM0)’.

Otley’s Prince Henry’s Grammar School publishes a full Further Mathematics course entry — a named course leader, a smaller teaching group, and its own entry requirements — but does not state an exam board anywhere on that page, so this page does not attribute one to it.

The board-by-board comparison of how AQA, Pearson Edexcel, OCR A and OCR B (MEI) structure their Further Maths papers differently, including each board’s own specification code, belongs to Leading Tuition’s national A-level Further Maths page, which also covers MEI’s withdrawal of one optional paper, Further Pure with Technology. None of the eight Leeds departments checked here teaches OCR or MEI, so that withdrawal has no bearing on a Leeds student and is not repeated here.

Whichever Leeds department your child attends, our expert A-level Further Maths tutors work to Pearson Edexcel’s specification and to whatever optional papers your child’s sixth form has actually chosen.

The Part That Does Not Converge: Which Two Optional Papers Each Department Enters

Edexcel’s Further Maths papers 1 and 2 form the compulsory Core Pure content; papers 3 and 4 are chosen from a wider menu of optional papers. Leading Tuition’s national A-level Further Maths page covers which optional papers can legally be combined; this page reports only what each Leeds department has actually published about its own choice.

ProviderWhat its own course page states about papers 3 and 4
Roundhay SchoolFurther Mechanics 1 and Further Statistics 1, named in its 2026-27 Year 12 and Year 13 learning plans
Benton Park SchoolFurther Pure 1, Further Pure 2, Further Statistics 1 and Further Mechanics 1 named across its four assessed papers
The Grammar School at LeedsOne Mechanics paper (25%) and one Statistics paper (25%), alongside two Pure papers (50%); no Edexcel paper codes used
Notre Dame Catholic Sixth Form CollegeThree A-level papers, with Paper 3 combining Mechanics and Discrete into a single assessment
Elliott Hudson CollegePaper 3 named as Further Statistics in one section and Further Mechanics 1 in another; Decision 1 as Paper 4 in both; papers stated as subject to change
Leeds Mathematics SchoolStudents choose two modules individually from Further Statistics 1, Further Mechanics 1, Decision 1 and Further Pure 1
Guiseley SchoolPaper 3 chosen from one of four options, Paper 4 from one of seven; the school makes the choice; specific papers not named
Pudsey Grammar SchoolOption families named (Pure Mathematics, Statistics, Mechanics, Decision Mathematics); specific papers not named

Source: each provider’s own current course page or subject guide, read 26 September 2026. This table reports what each department has published about its own choice of papers 3 and 4; it does not state which combinations Edexcel permits — see the national page linked above for that.

Three of the eight settle on the same combination by subject area — a mechanics paper and a statistics paper. Roundhay’s 2026-27 Year 12 and Year 13 learning plans name them precisely: Further Mechanics 1 and Further Statistics 1, run alongside Core Pure 1 and Core Pure 2. Benton Park’s subject guide names the same two papers among the four it lists — Further Pure 1, Further Pure 2, Further Statistics 1 and Further Mechanics 1. The Grammar School at Leeds’s own course page does not use Pearson’s paper codes at all, splitting its four Edexcel papers into two Pure papers worth 50%, one Mechanics paper worth 25% and one Statistics paper worth 25% — the same subject-area pairing, stated in the school’s own terms rather than Edexcel’s.

The other five do not match that pair, and they do not match each other. Notre Dame’s own course page names three A-level papers rather than four, combining Mechanics and Discrete into a single Paper 3 rather than entering them separately. (Notre Dame’s Further Maths entry numbers — 31 A-level, 39 AS-level, 2024/25 — are already published on Leading Tuition’s Leeds A-level Maths page and are not repeated here.) Elliott Hudson College names two different optional pairs in two sections of its own course page: Further Statistics for Paper 3 under ‘Course Content’, Further Mechanics 1 for Paper 3 under ‘Assessment’, with Decision 1 as Paper 4 in both — the page itself says the papers are ‘subject to change depending on the strengths of the group’. Leeds Mathematics School runs the closest thing to a menu: Year 13 students choose two modules from Further Statistics 1, Further Mechanics 1, Decision 1 and Further Pure 1, based on ‘individual strengths and career aspirations’. Guiseley School and Pudsey Grammar School publish the option structure without naming the papers actually sat: Guiseley’s Paper 3 comes from one of four options and Paper 4 from one of seven, chosen by the school; Pudsey Grammar names the four subject areas — Pure Mathematics, Statistics, Mechanics and Decision Mathematics — without stating which two a student sits.

What Leeds Asks at GCSE, and the Two Schools That Ask for an 8

Six of the providers checked publish a GCSE Mathematics grade requirement of 7 for A-level Further Maths: Notre Dame Catholic Sixth Form College, Roundhay School, Guiseley School, Pudsey Grammar School, Benton Park School and, as part of a wider entry profile covered below, Leeds Mathematics School. Two ask for more.

The Grammar School at Leeds’s own admissions page states plainly: ‘Mathematics requires grade 7 at GCSE. Further mathematics requires grade 8 at GCSE.’ Prince Henry’s Grammar School in Otley sets a similar bar in practice — ‘students should preferably have gained at least grade 8 in Mathematics at GCSE, although, in exceptional circumstances, students with grade 7 will be considered’ — a preference rather than an absolute floor, but a full grade above the six-provider norm either way.

Elliott Hudson College measures differently, by Average Point Score rather than a single subject grade: an APS of 5.5 or above with GCSE Mathematics at grade 7 or above, though ‘where an 8 in Mathematics is secured, an APS below 5.5 will be considered’ — the entry bar can flex around a stronger Maths grade specifically.

Leeds Mathematics School’s requirement is the most involved of the eight: grade 7 or above in GCSE Mathematics, grade 4 or above in GCSE English Language, at least six GCSEs at grade 5 or above, a 60-minute non-calculator Mathematics Aptitude Assessment, and two one-to-one discussions. For September 2027 entry, its own admissions page states that applications open 12 October 2026 and close 20 December 2026 at 23:59, with assessments held on 6, 9 or 10 February 2027. Notre Dame Catholic Sixth Form College asks for grade 7 Maths ‘as part of a strong GCSE profile’, plus a graphical calculator that the college states can be purchased from it directly.

None of the eight providers checked requires GCSE Further Maths itself as an entry condition — the qualification most families associate with the course is not, on this evidence, a gatekeeper for it anywhere in Leeds.

What Parents Say

Deborah Prior

★★★★★
Confidence and progress

My son was low in confidence after COVID and the gaps in learning were building up. Using this service helped plug those gaps, rebuild confidence, and improve his ability to learn properly again.

★★★★★
Amazing tutors!

We arranged maths and English tuition ahead of GCSEs and both tutors were brilliant. My daughter's grades improved, and by results day she achieved two grades higher than in her mock exams.

Great Teaching and Focused Learning

I attended an English bootcamp with Leading Tuition and the experience was excellent. The teacher gave focused attention to the small group while keeping the lessons interactive and engaging.

Why Leeds's Results Data Cannot Tell You Which Department to Choose

A value-added score is only a finding when its 95% confidence interval sits entirely on one side of zero; where the interval spans zero, the figure is statistically indistinguishable from no difference at all. That test matters more for Further Maths than for most subjects, because the cohorts are small: DfE’s 2024/25 data covers 22 Leeds providers with a Further Mathematics row, and the median published cohort across the 11 with a disclosed score is just 11 students, ranging from 6 to 54.

Only two of the 22 rows clear zero, and both lie below it. Garforth Academy’s 2024/25 A-level Further Maths value added is -1.04, with a 95% confidence interval of -1.90 to -0.17 on 7 VA-matched entries — DfE’s value-added progress measure for 2024/25 entrants, not a measure of teaching quality. Separately, Pudsey Grammar School’s 2024/25 A-level Further Maths value added is -1.35, interval -2.28 to -0.41, on 6 entries — again DfE’s progress measure for that year’s entrants, not a verdict on teaching. Both cohorts sit toward the small end of a citywide median disclosed cohort of 11, and each interval’s width reflects that.

Eleven of the 22 rows are suppressed — DfE discloses no value at all where a cohort is too small — and among the nine other published rows, none clears zero in either direction; their intervals span it, so they are not evidence of an above-average or below-average department, only evidence that a small cohort’s estimate is imprecise.

One of the 22 rows carries no meaning at the individual-college level at all. DfE’s Luminate Education Group row (URN 135771) is suppressed for Further Maths — no value, interval or entry count is published — but even a published Luminate figure would describe seven member colleges together: Leeds City College, Leeds Conservatoire, Keighley College, Harrogate College, University Centre Leeds, Leeds Sixth Form College and Pudsey Sixth Form College. Whichever of those seven a family is actually considering, this row cannot be read as that college’s own result.

Two different entry counts appear across Leading Tuition’s Leeds pages for the same providers, and both are correct: DfE’s value-added dataset counts only students it could match to prior attainment, while the subjects-entered tables count exam entries. For Notre Dame Catholic Sixth Form College, that is 29 VA-matched entries against 31 subjects-entered; for Allerton High School, 8 against 9. Leading Tuition’s Leeds A-level Maths page already publishes the subjects-entered figures for these providers, and this page’s value-added figures are the VA-matched count for the same institutions, labelled as such rather than presented as a second, competing number.

Garforth Academy’s own A-level Further Maths course page — confirmed live by checking that the same site returns a genuine 404 for a non-existent path elsewhere — carries no exam board, no papers and no entry requirement: only the school’s address and contact details. A family cannot currently verify from the school’s own site what its Further Maths course actually contains, only that DfE recorded a below-zero value-added score for a cohort of seven in 2024/25. Leading Tuition’s Leeds A-level Maths page states correctly that DfE publishes no average grade or point score for individual A-level subjects; the value-added figures on this page are a different measure again — a progress score with a confidence interval — and neither page contradicts the other.

How Leading Tuition Works With Leeds A-Level Further Maths Students

Our expert A-level Further Maths tutors work with students across Leeds whichever pair of optional papers their own sixth form has actually entered them for — Roundhay’s, Benton Park’s and The Grammar School at Leeds’s mechanics-and-statistics combination, Notre Dame’s combined Mechanics-and-Discrete paper, Elliott Hudson’s still-to-be-confirmed pair, or Leeds Mathematics School’s student-chosen menu — building sessions around the modules a student is actually sitting rather than a generic Further Maths scheme of work.

For a student whose own sixth form does not enter Further Maths at all, or whose department’s page — like Garforth Academy’s — publishes no detail to work from, we plan from the student’s own specification once it is confirmed with their school, rather than assuming a citywide default applies to their particular course.

Students in Leeds studying Maths, Further Maths or Physics may also be eligible for the University of Leeds Quantum Group’s free weekly scheme for Years 12 and 13 state-school students, covered in full on Leading Tuition’s Leeds A-level Maths page. 91% of our students achieve their desired grades, and Leading Tuition is rated 4.8/5 on Trustpilot from 59 reviews, read on 3 October 2026.

Whether your child’s sixth form publishes a value-added score or not, our expert A-level Further Maths tutors plan every session around their actual course and optional papers, not a citywide average.

Frequently asked questions

Which Leeds sixth forms offer A-level Further Maths?

At least 22 of the 31 school-level providers DfE tracks inside the Leeds local authority boundary (LA 383) returned an A-level Further Mathematics row for 2024/25, and Benton Park School’s own site currently lists ‘Maths Further Maths’ in its sixth form curriculum despite carrying no DfE Further Mathematics row that year. Leeds Mathematics School teaches it as a compulsory subject for every student, and Lawnswood School offers it through its joint sixth form partnership with Ralph Thoresby School. A department carrying no DfE row is not proof the course is unavailable; check the school’s own current course page.

Which exam board do Leeds sixth forms use for A-level Further Maths?

Every one of the eight Leeds providers that names an exam board on its own course page names Pearson Edexcel: Leeds Mathematics School, Elliott Hudson College, Notre Dame Catholic Sixth Form College, Roundhay School, The Grammar School at Leeds, Pudsey Grammar School, Benton Park School and Guiseley School. Pudsey Grammar School is the only one to publish the specification code, the Pearson Edexcel Level 3 Advanced GCE in Further Mathematics (9FM0). No Leeds department checked here teaches AQA, OCR or OCR B (MEI).

Do Leeds Further Maths departments enter the same optional papers?

No. Of the eight Leeds providers naming Edexcel, only three — Roundhay School, Benton Park School and The Grammar School at Leeds — settle on the same combination, a mechanics paper and a statistics paper. Notre Dame Catholic Sixth Form College combines mechanics and discrete content into a single paper instead. Elliott Hudson College’s own course page names two different optional pairs in two different sections. Leeds Mathematics School lets students choose two modules individually, and Guiseley School and Pudsey Grammar School publish the option structure without naming the specific papers entered.

What GCSE grade do I need for A-level Further Maths in Leeds?

Six providers checked ask for grade 7 in GCSE Mathematics: Notre Dame Catholic Sixth Form College, Roundhay School, Guiseley School, Pudsey Grammar School, Benton Park School and, as part of a wider profile, Leeds Mathematics School. The Grammar School at Leeds asks for grade 8, stating on its own admissions page that ‘Further mathematics requires grade 8 at GCSE’. Prince Henry’s Grammar School in Otley prefers grade 8 but will consider grade 7 ‘in exceptional circumstances’. No provider checked requires GCSE Further Maths itself.

Is Leeds Sixth Form College's Further Maths result published on its own?

No. DfE’s value-added dataset returns Leeds Sixth Form College’s results inside a single ‘Luminate Education Group’ row, URN 135771, which Luminate’s own website confirms pools seven member colleges: Leeds City College, Leeds Conservatoire, Keighley College, Harrogate College, University Centre Leeds, Leeds Sixth Form College and Pudsey Sixth Form College. That row’s 2024/25 Further Maths value is suppressed — no score, interval or entry count is published for the group, let alone for Leeds Sixth Form College alone.

Does any Leeds A-level Further Maths department have a value-added score that clears zero?

Two of the 22 Leeds rows do, and both lie below zero. Garforth Academy’s 2024/25 value added is -1.04, interval -1.90 to -0.17, on 7 VA-matched entries. Pudsey Grammar School’s is -1.35, interval -2.28 to -0.41, on 6 entries. Both are DfE’s progress measure for that year’s entrants, not a measure of teaching quality, and both sit on cohorts small enough that the interval is most of what the figure tells you. None of the other nine published rows clears zero in either direction.

What can a Leeds student do if their sixth form doesn't offer A-level Further Maths?

Nine of the 31 Leeds providers checked return no A-level Further Mathematics row in DfE’s 2024/25 data, though a missing row does not always mean no course — Benton Park School’s own site lists Further Maths despite carrying no row that year. Lawnswood School’s students can access it through the school’s joint sixth form partnership with Ralph Thoresby School, and Leeds Mathematics School accepts applicants from any Leeds or wider Yorkshire school with no catchment area, provided they clear its own grade 7 GCSE Maths and assessment requirements.
