Slough's summer 2026 GCSE maths results have no typical grade. Across the 2,477 entries at the 15 Slough schools with 30 or more entries, the Department for Education's provisional counts put between 11% and 15% of entries at each grade from 4 to 9, and no school's middle entry sits at grade 7. Leading Tuition's GCSE maths tutors in Slough therefore plan from a child's own school and working grade, not from a borough average.
Already know which Slough school your child attends? Our expert GCSE maths tutors help students across Slough at both Foundation and Higher tier, building each programme around the pupil's own school, exam board and current working grade. Book a free consultation to start.
Grades 4 to 9 each hold a similar share of the borough's entries. Of the 2,477 entries at the 15 schools, 280 were graded 9, 347 graded 8, 298 graded 7, 288 graded 6, 362 graded 5 and 361 graded 4: between 11.3% and 14.6% at every one of the six. A distribution that flat has no peak to call typical, so a single Slough-wide figure, such as an overall pass rate, says little about any one school's pupils.
The flat shape comes from two groups that barely overlap. Slough's four grammar schools run one 11+ test as the Slough Consortium, and between them they entered 653 of the 2,477 entries (26.4%). Those 653 entries produced 228 of the borough's 280 grade 9s (81.4%), 225 of its 347 grade 8s and 132 of its 298 grade 7s, and none of the 532 entries graded 3, 2, 1 or U. The other eleven schools entered 1,824, and the middle of their grades falls between 3 and 6.
The table sets each grade's count beside the share that came from the four Consortium schools.

For a family choosing a tutor, the practical reading is that Slough gives a child no borough-wide benchmark: the pupil's own school, tier and mock grades say more than any overall figure, and our tutors start from those.
Which grade sits in the middle at each Slough school?
Counting down from grade 9, the middle-ranked entry at each of the 15 schools falls on one of five grades: an 8 at four schools, a 6 at one, a 5 at four, a 4 at five and a 3 at one. At none of the 15 is it a 7. At every school the two middle-ranked entries carry the same grade, so the middle is never a toss-up between two.
The groups do not overlap on the full table either. The share of entries at grade 7 or above runs from 81.0% to 92.8% across the four Consortium schools and from 3.3% to 45.2% across the other eleven. The second range is wide in its own right, so the other eleven are not one cohort, and an average across them would fit none of them.
A grade 7 target therefore sits in different places: just below the middle at each Consortium school, and above the middle at all eleven others. Our tutors set a target from the row for the child's school, not from the borough.
How did each school's GCSE maths entries fall by grade?
Rows run in alphabetical order and imply no ranking. Each count is DfE's provisional number of GCSE (9-1) Full Course mathematics entries at that grade in summer 2026. The second column marks the four Consortium grammar schools, and the last column gives the grade of the middle-ranked entry.

Confidence and progress
My son was low in confidence after COVID and the gaps in learning were building up. Using this service helped plug those gaps, rebuild confidence, and improve his ability to learn properly again.

Amazing tutors!
We arranged maths and English tuition ahead of GCSEs and both tutors were brilliant. My daughter's grades improved, and by results day she achieved two grades higher than in her mock exams.

Great Teaching and Focused Learning
I attended an English bootcamp with Leading Tuition and the experience was excellent. The teacher gave focused attention to the small group while keeping the lessons interactive and engaging.
What does the spread mean for choosing GCSE maths tutoring in Slough?
Outside the Consortium schools, 951 of the 1,824 entries (52.1%) were graded 3, 4 or 5, with 245 at 3, 357 at 4 and 349 at 5. For a pupil there, progress is measured in grade boundaries, and 532 entries in those eleven schools finished at 3, 2, 1 or U. Under DfE's 16 to 19 funding rules a student who finishes at grade 3 must go on studying towards a GCSE in maths, which our guide to the grade 3 resit explains.
At the Consortium schools the question is different. 453 of the 653 entries (69.4%) were graded 8 or 9 and 132 (20.2%) graded 7, so a pupil there is separating neighbouring top grades. On AQA's specification Foundation tier covers grades 1 to 5 and Higher tier grades 4 to 9, so a target of 6 or above means Higher tier, as our GCSE maths tuition page explains.
Our expert GCSE maths tutors help students across Slough at both tiers, whichever exam board the school enters, and a programme starts from the pupil's school, mock grade and the marks that are being lost.
How far can the 2026 Slough table be trusted?
It is provisional. DfE states that the data in its Key stage 4 performance release for 2025/26 is provisional, so approved result amendments that schools requested have not been applied. The exams were sat in summer 2026, DfE published the data on 15 October 2026, and the next release is due in February 2027. DfE publishes no progress measures, and so no Progress 8, for 2025/26 because these pupils had no Key Stage 2 assessments, so these are raw counts of where pupils finished, not how much progress they made.
It counts entries, not pupils. The 15 schools list 2,485 pupils at the end of Key Stage 4 and 2,477 GCSE maths entries, and three schools show one more entry than pupils.
It follows the borough boundary. DfE's local authority code for Slough is 871, and the file lists 18 schools under it. The figures belong to schools, grouped by the authority each school sits in, and the Consortium's guide says families living outside Slough apply through their home authority, so a Slough school's cohort can include children who live outside the borough. Burnham Grammar School has a postal address that says Slough but sits in Buckinghamshire, code 825, so it is not here. Arbour Vale School, Hillingdon Grange School and Langley Hall Arts Academy are Slough establishments in the DfE register that have no row in the file.
It leaves out three small schools. Schools with fewer than 30 entries are left out of the table and of every share, middle grade and group total: three schools and 53 of the 2,530 entries (2.1%). At 14 entries one pupil moves a school's share by 7.1 points.
The three are Long Close School (22 entries), Al-Madani Independent Grammar School (17) and Al-Madani Girls School (14). Al-Madani Independent Grammar School is not one of the four Consortium grammar schools, whatever its name suggests. DfE's school register marks it, Long Close School and the four Consortium schools as selective, six in all, and only the four Consortium schools form the group on this page.
Nothing in Slough is withheld. DfE withholds the grade breakdown for any school with 5 or fewer entries, which affects 415 of the 4,471 schools in England with a GCSE maths total. The smallest of Slough's 18 totals is 14, so every Slough school has a full breakdown. A small total is not always a small school, so a Year 11 headcount is the check.
A table like this can place a school but not a child, so our tutors work from the child's own mock papers and school reports.

Frequently Asked Questions
How many GCSE maths entries did Slough schools have in summer 2026?
DfE's provisional file lists 2,530 GCSE (9-1) maths entries across 18 Slough schools, from exams sat in summer 2026 and published on 15 October 2026. This page analyses the 2,477 entries at the 15 schools with 30 or more, because at a school of 14 entries a single pupil moves the share by 7.1 points. The count is entries, not pupils: the 15 schools list 2,485 pupils at the end of Key Stage 4.
Which Slough schools are the four grammar schools?
Herschel Grammar School, Langley Grammar School, St Bernard's Catholic Grammar School and Upton Court Grammar School run one 11+ entrance examination as the Slough Consortium, and the Consortium's 2027 entry guide says a child sits just one test however many of the four they apply to. Al-Madani Independent Grammar School is not one of them: it is a small independent school with 17 GCSE maths entries, left out of every share on this page.
Is the 2026 DfE GCSE data final?
No. DfE states that the data in this release is provisional, which means approved result amendments that schools requested have not been applied, and the next release is due in February 2027. DfE also publishes no Progress 8 for the 2025/26 cohort, so a grade count cannot show how much progress a pupil made. Treat every figure here as the position DfE published on 15 October 2026.
Is Burnham Grammar School in these Slough figures?
No. Burnham Grammar School's postal address reads Burnham, Slough, SL1 7HG, but the Department for Education's register places it in Buckinghamshire, local authority code 825, so its results sit in Buckinghamshire's figures. This page uses Slough's own code, 871, which gives 18 schools in the DfE file. Three other Slough establishments, Arbour Vale School, Hillingdon Grange School and Langley Hall Arts Academy, have no row in the file.
What should I compare my child's GCSE maths grade against in Slough?
Compare it with the row for their own school, not the borough. The middle-ranked entry is an 8 at each of the four Consortium grammar schools and a 3, 4, 5 or 6 at the other eleven, and at no school is it a 7. A child on a predicted 7 is therefore just below the middle at a Consortium school and above it at all eleven others. Take the latest mock grade, find the school's row in the table, and set the target from there.
Does DfE withhold any Slough school's GCSE maths grades?
No Slough school's grade breakdown is withheld in the 2025/26 file. DfE suppresses the breakdown where a school has 5 or fewer entries, and across England that affects 415 of the 4,471 schools with a GCSE maths total. The smallest of Slough's 18 totals is 14, so every school has a full breakdown. A small total is not always a small school, so check a school's Year 11 headcount before reading a low total as a small cohort.
Does Leading Tuition teach both Foundation and Higher tier GCSE maths in Slough?
Yes. Our expert GCSE maths tutors help students across Slough at both Foundation and Higher tier, and build each programme around the pupil's own school, exam board and current working grade. A free consultation covers which tier the school has entered the pupil for, their latest mock grade and the topics where marks are being lost, and 91% of our students achieve their desired grades.
