Twickenham is a town in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames, which DfE reports as one local authority, so this page covers all 21 open sixth forms in the borough, from Barnes to Hampton. Fifteen have a 2024/25 A-level Biology row in DfE's value-added data. The schools' own pages name OCR, AQA or Cambridge International as the board, with GCSE bars from Grade 6.
Counted in GIAS, the schools register, on 29 September 2026: 94 open establishments in the borough, 21 with an official sixth form. Fifteen of the 21 have a Biology row in DfE's 2024/25 data (twelve published, three marked c), and six returned none when we queried by URN. A sixteenth provider, Richmond upon Thames College in Twickenham, is filed under Hillingdon and covered below.
Our expert A-level Biology tutors help students across Twickenham and the borough on whichever board their sixth form enters, building each programme around the student's own papers and practicals.
Which exam board and which GCSE grade does each sixth form in the borough ask for in A-level Biology?
Every entry below comes from the sixth form's own website or prospectus, read on 29 September 2026, and the entry year is given where the source states one. The table is alphabetical, not ranked. Not named, and no grade found, mean that the pages we could read did not say: the Lady Eleanor Holles A level course guide and the Hampton School sixth-form options brochure are both on Issuu, whose viewer does not expose its text to a page fetch, so a board or a grade may be printed in them that we could not read.

Of the 16 providers, three name OCR (Waldegrave School, Orleans Park School and Grey Court School) and five name AQA (Christ's, The Harrodian School, Radnor House Twickenham, St Catherine's School and Richmond upon Thames College). Teddington School's science page links AQA's specification 7401/7402, and St Paul's School says its A-level Biology pupils follow the Cambridge International A Level course. The pages we read for the other six name no board. None of the ten providers whose board we could establish names Pearson Edexcel or Eduqas as its Biology board.
How each board structures its papers and practicals is set out on our OCR A-level Biology and AQA A-level Biology pages, and the comparison across all seven specifications is on our A-level Biology guide. This page stays with what the borough's sixth forms say for themselves.
Is Combined Science 6-6 enough to start A-level Biology in this borough?
It depends on the sixth form. Eight of the 16 providers state a route for students who took Combined Science rather than separate GCSE Biology: at four of them 6-6 meets the stated bar, and at the other four it falls short.

Four more give a general bar rather than a Combined Science route, and the pages we read do not say how a Combined Science result counts against it. Christ's asks at least Grade 6 in each subject to be studied, Lady Eleanor Holles at least Grade 7 to take a subject at A level, and Radnor House Twickenham Grade 7 in the subject. Teddington School gives an average of Grades 5 and 6 across GCSEs, and we found no Biology-specific grade. For Hampton School, Lift Richmond Park, Hampton Court House and St Paul's School we found no GCSE bar on the pages we read.
Bars are set for a particular entry year. Waldegrave's criteria are for 2027-28 entry, Orleans Park's page is headed Entry 2027, and St Richard Reynolds' booklet is headed Entry requirements for 2025, so the sixth form's current page is the one to rely on before applying.
Our expert A-level Biology tutors help students moving from Combined Science into a separate Biology A level across Twickenham, Teddington, Richmond and Hampton, starting from the student's GCSE papers and any bridging tasks their sixth form sets. Leading Tuition is rated 4.8 out of 5 on Trustpilot from 59 reviews, read on 3 October 2026.
What can DfE's value-added figure tell you about Biology here?
DfE's value-added measure sets what a sixth form's A-level students achieved in a subject against what students across England achieved in it from the same GCSE starting point. Read a figure as a finding only when its 95% interval sits wholly above zero or wholly below it. DfE's methodology uses c for confidential, so a c in the table is a withheld figure, not a low one.
The count in the table is DfE's Number of entries, which we call matched entries. It equals the GCE A level Biology entries on Compare at eight of the twelve published providers and is one lower at four: 330 matched entries against 334 on Compare in 2024/25.

Sorted by matched entries, largest first, never by score. This is DfE's value-added progress measure for 2024/25 entrants and is not a measure of teaching quality; an interval that crosses zero is not a finding. Address towns are as GIAS records them. Source: DfE institution-level subject value added dataset, queried 29 September 2026.
The twelve published cohorts total 330 matched entries and range from 9 to 49. Two of the twelve intervals sit wholly above zero, on cohorts of 32 and 17 matched entries; the other ten include zero. The four largest cohorts, of 49, 43, 39 and 34 matched entries, are all among the ten, so a large cohort narrows an interval without guaranteeing a finding. The narrowest interval is 0.59 wide, on 49 matched entries. The widest is 1.39 wide, on 9, which is more than twice as wide. All of these are DfE's value-added figures for 2024/25 entrants, not a measure of teaching quality.
The three rows marked c are small cohorts: Compare lists 5, 4 and 1 GCE A level Biology entries for them in 2024/25, 10 in all.

Confidence and progress
My son was low in confidence after COVID and the gaps in learning were building up. Using this service helped plug those gaps, rebuild confidence, and improve his ability to learn properly again.

Amazing tutors!
We arranged maths and English tuition ahead of GCSEs and both tutors were brilliant. My daughter's grades improved, and by results day she achieved two grades higher than in her mock exams.

Great Teaching and Focused Learning
I attended an English bootcamp with Leading Tuition and the experience was excellent. The teacher gave focused attention to the small group while keeping the lessons interactive and engaging.
Which sixth forms fall outside DfE's Richmond upon Thames Biology table?
Two groups sit outside the Richmond upon Thames table above: a college in Twickenham whose results DfE files under Hillingdon, and six sixth forms that returned no Biology row.
Richmond upon Thames College and HRUC
Richmond upon Thames College's record in GIAS (URN 130454), at Langhorn Drive in Twickenham, closed on 4 January 2023 as the result of a merger. GIAS names the successor as HRUC, Harrow, Richmond & Uxbridge Colleges (URN 130446), which is registered in Hillingdon, local authority 312. The filing follows the merged college, so DfE's 2024/25 rows for it sit under Hillingdon and a query of local authority 318 does not return them. The college's own website still describes the college as based in Twickenham.
Its sixth-form centre has 24 A-level and A-level equivalent subjects. The A-level Biology entry names AQA as the board and asks for five GCSEs at grades 9 to 5, including English at 5, with Maths and Biology, or double Science, at 6-6.
HRUC's 2024/25 A-level Biology value-added figure is 0.23, with a 95% interval of -0.15 to 0.61 across 31 matched entries, and it covers the whole college rather than the Twickenham campus; it is DfE's progress measure for 2024/25 entrants and is not a measure of teaching quality. The interval includes zero. Compare lists 37 GCE A level Biology entries for HRUC as a whole.
Six sixth forms with no Biology row

Our expert A-level Biology tutors help Twickenham families whose sixth form enters OCR or AQA, and work from the student's own mock papers and practical write-ups.
How do we teach A-level Biology to students on different boards and different practical routes?
Our expert A-level Biology tutors work through the OCR and AQA courses that nine of the 16 providers run (OCR at three, AQA at six counting Teddington's linked specification), in person and online across Twickenham, Teddington, Richmond, Hampton, Ham and Barnes. Every programme starts from the board the student's sixth form enters, and the specification code on the exam entry settles which.
Two sixth forms publish the step from GCSE. Turing House sets Biology bridging work that all students are expected to complete before their first day of the sixth form, and Teddington links GCSE to A-level transition tasks on its Which Course page. We use whichever the school sets as the first weeks' material.
The practical endorsement sits outside the written papers: Orleans Park's OCR course lists it as non-exam assessment, pass or fail, assessed in the summer of the second year. Fieldwork is part of the course as well. Christ's says its fieldwork is compulsory and usually takes place at Juniper Hall in Dorking, Hampton School runs a trip to Amersham Field Studies Centre for boys taking Biology at A level, The Harrodian lists local fieldwork of a half day or a full day, and St Catherine's lists residential ecology field trips. A tutor cannot stand in for those days, and can prepare the write-ups and techniques that follow them.
Which exam board do sixth forms in Richmond upon Thames use for A-level Biology?
Of the 16 providers on this page, three name OCR (Waldegrave School, Orleans Park School and Grey Court School) and five name AQA (Christ's Church of England Comprehensive Secondary School, The Harrodian School, Radnor House Twickenham, St Catherine's School and Richmond upon Thames College). Teddington School's science page links AQA's specification 7401/7402, and St Paul's School says its pupils follow the Cambridge International A Level course. We found no board named for the other six on the pages we read, so the exam entry or the school's exams officer is the place to check.
Which local sixth forms accept 6-6 in Combined Science for A-level Biology?
Four state a bar that 6-6 meets: Waldegrave School (6-6 in Combined Science, 2027-28 entry criteria), Orleans Park School (Science 6-6 at higher tier, with Maths 5), Turing House School (two Grade 6s in Combined Science) and Richmond upon Thames College (double Science at 6-6). Grey Court School asks 7-6, St Catherine's School 7-7, St Richard Reynolds Catholic High School 7-7 at Higher tier in a booklet headed Entry requirements for 2025, and The Harrodian School a minimum of 8. The sixth form's current page is the one to check before applying.
How many of the borough's Biology value-added figures show a clear result?
Two of the 12 published figures do: their 95% intervals sit wholly above zero, at 0.33 to 1.07 on 32 matched entries and 0.16 to 1.17 on 17 matched entries. The other ten intervals include zero, among them those on the four largest cohorts of 49, 43, 39 and 34 matched entries. This is DfE's value-added progress measure for 2024/25 entrants and is not a measure of teaching quality. The schools behind each figure are named in the table on this page.
What does a c mean in DfE's Biology figures for Richmond upon Thames?
DfE's methodology uses c for confidential, and says it suppresses statistics by reference to the National Statistician's guidance on confidentiality, so a c is a withheld figure, not a low result. Three of the 15 providers are marked c for 2024/25 A-level Biology: St Catherine's School, Hampton Court House and St Paul's School. Compare lists 5, 4 and 1 GCE A level Biology entries for them in 2024/25, 10 in total.
Is there a college in Twickenham that teaches A-level Biology?
Yes. Richmond upon Thames College, based in Twickenham, lists A-level Biology on AQA, with Maths and Biology, or double Science, at 6-6 and five GCSEs at grades 9 to 5. GIAS closed its record (URN 130454) on 4 January 2023 after a merger into HRUC (URN 130446), which is registered in Hillingdon, so DfE files the A-level Biology figure under Hillingdon: 0.23, with a 95% interval of -0.15 to 0.61 across 31 matched entries, for the whole of HRUC rather than the Twickenham campus, as DfE's progress measure for 2024/25 entrants and not a measure of teaching quality.
Do these sixth forms ask for a particular GCSE Maths grade to take A-level Biology?
Four state one alongside Biology. Orleans Park School asks for Maths 5, Grey Court School Maths 6 and St Catherine's School Maths 7, and St Richard Reynolds Catholic High School strongly advises Maths 6 in a booklet headed Entry requirements for 2025. Waldegrave School's 2027-28 criteria show no Maths grade against Biology. For the other providers we found no Maths grade tied to Biology on the pages we read.
What if the sixth form does not name its A-level Biology board?
For six of the 16 providers we found no board named for A-level Biology on the pages we read: Lady Eleanor Holles School, Hampton School, Lift Richmond Park, St Richard Reynolds Catholic High School, Turing House School and Hampton Court House. The specification code is printed on the student's exam entry and decides which papers a tutor works from, so it is the first thing we ask on a consultation call. The Lady Eleanor Holles and Hampton School booklets are on Issuu, whose viewer does not expose its text to a page fetch.
