Leading Tuition's A level maths tutors for Watford are expert one-to-one online teachers who start from each student's own sixth form and exam board. DfE's revised 2024/25 release scores three sixth forms in the Watford district for A level Mathematics: Future Academies Watford at 0.92 on 10 entries, Watford Grammar School for Boys at 0.07 on 182, and Watford Grammar School for Girls at -0.23 on 108.

Watford is a district of Hertfordshire, which is DfE's local authority 919, so every figure here comes from the Hertfordshire table cut by the district GIAS records for each school. DfE's 16 to 19 performance release is on explore-education-statistics.service.gov.uk, and the town's own page is tuition in Watford.

Our expert A level maths tutors help sixth-formers across Watford with the pure, statistics and mechanics papers, whichever board their sixth form enters, and every lesson is one-to-one and online.

Which Watford sixth forms does DfE score for A level maths?

The scores come from DfE's dataset "Schools and colleges - qualification and subject value added", version 1.0.1, published on 23 April 2026 as part of the revised 2024/25 release and last updated on 24 July 2026. The cut used here is GCE A level, the A level cohort and the subject Mathematics. Each row carries a value-added score, the lower and upper bounds of a 95% interval, and the number of entries counted in the score.

GIAS, the register of schools, records five providers in the Watford district in DfE's Hertfordshire Mathematics table. Three are scored and two show DfE's c marker, which DfE's methodology defines as confidential. The table below lists all five, largest entry count first, with c rows last.

Future Academies Watford (WD25 7HW) scores 0.92, with a 95% interval of 0.16 to 1.69 on 10 entries. The whole interval lies above zero, which makes it the one score in the Watford district that DfE's own interval separates from zero. It rests on 10 entries, so the next section is the place to read what that does to the figure.

Watford Grammar School for Boys (WD18 7JF) scores 0.07, with an interval of -0.11 to 0.25 on 182 entries, the largest count of any Watford-district row. Zero sits inside the interval, so the score is not distinguishable from zero. Watford Grammar School for Girls (WD18 0AE) scores -0.23, with an interval of -0.46 to 0.00 on 108 entries. Its upper bound is 0.00, so the interval reaches zero and does not lie wholly below it; the page does not read it as a score below zero.

West Herts College (WD17 3EZ) and Westfield Academy (WD18 6NS) are the other two Watford-district rows in DfE's table, and both are shown as c in every column. DfE's convention is that c stands for confidential, so this page prints c for them and no score, interval or entry count.

How much does one Watford maths score carry at 10 entries, and at 182?

A value-added score is an average over the entries counted for one provider in one subject. DfE publishes the lower and upper bounds of a 95% interval beside it because an average over a small number of entries moves a long way when a single student's result changes. This page treats a score as a finding only when its whole interval lies above zero or below zero, and it prints the entry count beside every score so the cohort size is never out of sight. It is a progress measure for a group of students, not a judgement of how well any one teacher taught.

The three Watford-district intervals show the effect of cohort size directly. Watford Grammar School for Boys has 182 entries and an interval running from -0.11 to 0.25. Watford Grammar School for Girls has 108 entries and an interval from -0.46 to 0.00. Future Academies Watford has 10 entries and an interval from 0.16 to 1.69, an interval that sits above zero but that spans a far wider range of values than either larger cohort's. With 10 entries, one score carries less certainty about where the true figure lies than a score on 182, and a reader should hold it more loosely even though the interval clears zero.

A difference between two point estimates is not a finding. Watford Grammar School for Boys scores 0.07 (interval -0.11 to 0.25) and Watford Grammar School for Girls scores -0.23 (interval -0.46 to 0.00). The two intervals overlap between -0.11 and 0.00, so this page does not rank the two Grammar Schools against each other.

The entry count is also not the same as the number of students in a sixth form or the number of students who sat maths. It is the count DfE used in the score, and DfE publishes it so that a reader can judge the weight of the figure. A sixth form's score describes the average over those entries; it does not describe the student reading this page.

The next table takes the same dataset into the postcodes that surround the town. The second table covers the wider WD postcode area, so that none of those sixth forms is mistaken for a Watford-district provider. For how the subject is taught at this level, the A level maths tuition page covers the content, and A level further maths tuition covers the second qualification.

Which sixth forms with a WD postcode sit outside the Watford district?

The table below lists the 20 providers in DfE's Hertfordshire Mathematics table whose GIAS postcode begins WD and whose GIAS district is not Watford. GIAS places them in Hertsmere, Three Rivers or Dacorum, and each row carries its own district. This page makes no claim about which of them Watford families attend; the table is there so that a WD address is never read as a Watford-district score.

Nineteen of the 20 rows are scored and one, The Purcell School in Hertsmere, shows c. Two of the 19 have an interval wholly above zero: Queens' School in Hertsmere at 0.51 (interval 0.18 to 0.83, 55 entries) and Haberdashers' Boys' School in Hertsmere at 0.32 (interval 0.11 to 0.53, 131 entries). None of the 19 has an interval wholly below zero.

The larger Three Rivers cohorts all include zero: Parmiter's School scores 0.18 (interval -0.07 to 0.43, 95 entries), St Clement Danes School 0.08 (interval -0.19 to 0.35, 78 entries) and Rickmansworth School 0.07 (interval -0.22 to 0.37, 67 entries). In Hertsmere, Bushey Meads School scores -0.05 (interval -0.41 to 0.31, 45 entries) and Haberdashers' Girls' School 0.12 (interval -0.18 to 0.42, 65 entries).

The smallest cohorts in the table are St Margaret's School at 6 entries (score -0.62, interval -1.61 to 0.36) and The Grange Academy at 8 entries (score 0.33, interval -0.52 to 1.19). Each interval runs well past zero on both sides, which is what a cohort of that size produces, and neither score is read as a finding.

Amazing tutors!

We arranged maths and English tuition ahead of GCSEs and both tutors were brilliant. My daughter's grades improved, and by results day she achieved two grades higher than in her mock exams.

I attended an English bootcamp with Leading Tuition and the experience was excellent. The teacher gave focused attention to the small group while keeping the lessons interactive and engaging.

Where do Watford's three scored sixth forms sit among Hertfordshire's 87?

DfE's 2024/25 Mathematics table for Hertfordshire has 97 rows. Eighty-seven are scored and 10 show c. Of the 87, 12 have an interval wholly above zero, 9 have an interval wholly below zero and 66 have an interval that includes zero, so 21 providers are clear of zero in one direction or the other.

The Watford district contributes three of the 87 scored rows and one of the 12 above zero, Future Academies Watford. Its other two scored rows, Watford Grammar School for Boys and Watford Grammar School for Girls, are among the 66 whose intervals include zero. The 66 is the largest group in the county: for most Hertfordshire providers, DfE's interval for Mathematics cannot separate the score from zero.

A county figure never stands in for a Watford provider on this page. The 21 clear-of-zero providers are spread across Hertfordshire's districts, and the district that GIAS records for each school decides whether it appears in the Watford table or the neighbouring-districts table. A student choosing between sixth forms can use the intervals above to see how much weight each score bears, and a tutor then works from that student's own papers.

Which papers does A level maths tuition work through: Pearson Edexcel 9MA0 or OCR H240?

A score describes a sixth form's past entries; the student's own grade comes from the papers of the board the sixth form enters. Two boards' structures are sourced for this page, and the student's maths department confirms which one applies.

Pearson Edexcel's A level Mathematics (9MA0) was first taught in 2017 and first assessed in 2018. Its specification states that the assessments are 2 hours each, out of 100 marks, with calculators allowed. Papers 1 and 2 are Pure Mathematics and Paper 3 is Statistics and Mechanics. Our Edexcel A level maths tuition page covers the board in more detail.

OCR's Mathematics A (H240) sets three written papers, each of 2 hours and 100 marks, each worth 33⅓% of the A level. Paper 1 is Pure Mathematics, Paper 2 is Pure Mathematics and Statistics, and Paper 3 is Pure Mathematics and Mechanics. In Paper 2 some of the statistics items are set in the context of the pre-release large data set. See our OCR A level maths tuition page for the board's structure.

The two structures differ in where the applied content sits, which changes what a tutor revises first: Pearson's single applied paper against OCR's applied halves inside Papers 2 and 3. A Watford sixth-former who tells their tutor the board in the first lesson gets sessions built around the right paper layout from the start.

A school's value-added score cannot tell a student which paper to practise. A student's own marks on past papers can, and that is the starting point for every programme our tutors build.

Our expert A level maths tutors in Watford teach the pure, statistics and mechanics content one-to-one and online, working from the student's own sixth form, board and past-paper marks.

What a Watford sixth-former gets from one-to-one online A level maths tuition

Our expert A level maths tutors teach one-to-one and online, so lessons reach a student in Watford without travel. A programme starts from the sixth form the student attends, the board's papers and the marks on the latest past paper, and it follows the student through the Year 12 and Year 13 content.

A student can use the tables above as context for the sixth form they attend. The figures describe the average over past entries, not the student, and the tutor's job is to move the student's own marks. 91% of Leading Tuition students achieve their desired grades.

Families who also want the wider subject picture can read about our maths tutoring service, and the town page for Watford tuition lists the other levels covered.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which Watford sixth form has an A level maths score clear of zero in 2024/25?

Future Academies Watford, among the three scored providers in the Watford district. DfE's revised 2024/25 release gives it a score of 0.92 with a 95% interval of 0.16 to 1.69 on 10 entries, so the whole interval lies above zero. Watford Grammar School for Boys scores 0.07 (interval -0.11 to 0.25, 182 entries) and Watford Grammar School for Girls scores -0.23 (interval -0.46 to 0.00, 108 entries); neither interval lies wholly on one side of zero.

Why do West Herts College and Westfield Academy show c?

DfE's methodology states that c means confidential, and its 2024/25 Mathematics table shows c in every indicator for both providers, which are the other two Watford-district rows alongside the three scored ones. This page therefore prints c for them and nothing more: it gives no score, no interval and no entry count. A reader who wants either provider's maths results can ask the maths department directly.

Are Parmiter's School and Queens' School in Watford?

Not by DfE and GIAS district. Parmiter's School (WD25 0UU) is recorded in Three Rivers and Queens' School (WD23 2TY) in Hertsmere, although both carry a WD postcode. Their 2024/25 maths scores are in the second table on this page under their own districts: Parmiter's 0.18 (interval -0.07 to 0.43, 95 entries) and Queens' 0.51 (interval 0.18 to 0.83, 55 entries). Only Queens' interval lies wholly above zero.

Does a sixth form's value-added score tell me my own A level maths grade?

No. A score is an average over the entries counted for that provider, and DfE publishes it with an interval because 10 entries or 182 entries can each move it. A student's own grade comes from three papers: Pearson Edexcel 9MA0 sets 2-hour papers of 100 marks each, and OCR H240 sets three 2-hour, 100-mark papers at 33⅓% each. A tutor therefore starts from the student's own past-paper marks.

Which exam board's papers will my Watford sixth-former sit?

That depends on the board the sixth form enters, so ask the maths department. Two boards' papers are covered on this page: Pearson Edexcel A level Mathematics (9MA0), where Papers 1 and 2 are Pure Mathematics and Paper 3 is Statistics and Mechanics, and OCR Mathematics A (H240), where Paper 2 sets its statistics questions in the context of the pre-release large data set. Lessons follow whichever board the student sits.

Is A level maths tuition for Watford students one-to-one and online?

Leading Tuition's A level maths tuition is one-to-one and online, so a student in Watford needs only a laptop and a connection. The first step is to book a free consultation at /consultation or by WhatsApp on 07360 278449; the second is to tell us the sixth form, the board (such as Pearson Edexcel 9MA0 or OCR H240) and the paper marks so far. Lessons then start from those papers.

How current are these DfE maths figures, and are they provisional?

They are from DfE's revised 2024/25 release, published on 23 April 2026 and last updated on 24 July 2026, so they are not the provisional November figures. The statistics include grades received by students as announced on 14 August 2025. The dataset, 'Schools and colleges - qualification and subject value added' version 1.0.1, holds 101,979 results, and 97 of them are Hertfordshire rows for Mathematics.

How many Hertfordshire providers have a maths score clear of zero?

Of the 97 Hertfordshire (local authority 919) providers in DfE's 2024/25 A level Mathematics table, 87 are scored and 10 show c. Among the 87, 12 have an interval wholly above zero, 9 wholly below zero and 66 include zero, so 21 are clear of zero either way. One of the 12 above zero is in the Watford district: Future Academies Watford, on 10 entries.
