City of London School for Girls is a selective independent day school that asks a girl living abroad to register for Year 7 on a separate overseas form for September 2027 entry. Its 11+ page states that registration for September 2027 entry closes on Friday 30 October 2026, and gives 13 to 18 November 2026 for the first assessment and 11 to 21 January 2027 for interviews, which the school says may be conducted remotely.

Each school rule below is quoted from the school’s own pages, read on 9 October 2026, for Year 7 (11+) entry in September 2027. Our London independent schools guide places the school beside the others.

Which form does a girl living abroad use to register for Year 7?

The 11+ page tells applicants from abroad which route to take: “If you are applying from overseas, please register using this link.” That link opens a form headed “Year 7 (overseas applicants)”, which sits beside a tab headed “Year 7 (UK applicants)” on the school’s registration pages.

The overseas form’s own introduction fixes the entry point and the cohort: “To register your daughter for possible 11+ entry to City in September 2027 please complete this form. Your daughter should have been born between 1 September 2015 and 31 August 2016.” That range is the group in Year 6 in England in 2026-27. Our year-group guide shows where other countries’ school years fall against it.

A confirmation follows payment: “After payment you will receive an automated email message confirming your registration and detailing next steps.” The form’s headings run Pupil Details, Parent or Guardian Details, Additional Contacts, Registration Fee Payer Details and Payment Details. On the 11+ page the International tab adds “Every pupil who would like to take our 11+ entrance assessment must be registered with us.” The registration fee for the UK tab and for the International tab is stated on that page, and the amounts are not repeated here.

The 11+ page words the registration line in the Register stage, the UK tab and the International tab. The Register stage reads “Registration for entry in September 2027 is now open and will close on Friday 30 October 2026.” The UK tab reads “Registration for entry in September 2027 is now open here and will close on Friday 30 October 2026.” The International tab’s own line reads “Registration for entry in September 2027 is now open here.” The date belongs to Year 7 entry in September 2027.

The hour at which registration closes on Friday 30 October 2026, and whether the same date and clock apply to the overseas form, are questions for admissions in writing; the clock section below gives the hours between the UK and Dubai, Hong Kong and Singapore. The term-dates box on the same page lists the autumn half term as “Half term Monday 19 October - Friday 30 October”, so the closing date is also the last day of that half term. We would send written questions before the half term starts on Monday 19 October 2026.

Further lines concern families abroad. The 11+ questions on the FAQ page answer “Does City accept pupils from overseas?” with “We certainly do! Several pupils join us each year from overseas.” On funding, the bursaries page states “Overseas applicants are not eligible for a bursary.” and the same FAQ answer adds “Please note that the school does not consider applications for bursaries from overseas students.”

Which dates fall when for September 2027 entry?

Each row is quoted from the school’s 11+ admissions page for Year 7 (11+) entry in September 2027, except the last, which is labelled for the following year, and the invitation row, which adds a line from the school’s A5 timeline PDF. None of these dates has passed on Friday 9 October 2026, the day the pages were read.

What does the pre-assessment form ask of a family abroad?

A second form follows registration. The 11+ FAQ says “It is crucial that you make us aware of any of the following in the pre-assessment form you will be asked to complete after registration, so that we can take these into account:” and lists:

We read two of those entries as bearing directly on a girl who has been taught abroad: English as a second language and periods of schooling outside the UK.

The school also asks for a reference. To the question “Do we need to let our current school know about an application to City?” it answers “Yes, please. We will request a reference from the headteacher of the pupil’s current school to help in our assessment process.” The admissions policy, approved on 17th September 2026, also mentions a school report at the next stage: “Candidates who are successful in the first assessment and for whom the school may have received an encouraging school report, will then be invited to the second assessment, which consists of two 45-minute papers (maths and English), and to attend an interview.”

Where is the first assessment, Cambridge Select Insight, sat?

The 11+ page describes the first assessment this way: “Pupils will be invited to City to sit a one-hour computer-based test, Cambridge Select Insight, assessing numerical, verbal and non-verbal skills.” The wording is “invited to City”. How a girl who lives abroad is to be examined between 13 and 18 November 2026 is a question for admissions; it is the second question in the final section.

What follows the first assessment is set out in the policy: “At 11+, the school will set the computer test pass mark above which every candidate will be invited back for the second assessment and interview and a mark below which no candidates will be invited back. The marks will vary from year to year depending on the outcomes of the assessments.” For the candidates between the two marks the policy says “Between those two marks, there will be a pool of candidates from which the school will select girls for second round assessment based on criteria such as:”

Admissions can say how the state-school line reads for a girl at a school abroad; the question is in the final section.

On preparation, the FAQ answers “Should pupils receive tutoring before the entrance assessments?” with “We do not wish for pupils to endure hours of extra tuition. The assessment is designed not to be ‘tutorable’.” It then recommends: “We do, however, recommend that applicants look at the familiarisation for the CEM assessment, the maths sample paper and English sample paper we provide so that they know what to expect on the assessment days.”

The familiarisation page the 11+ page links is headed CEM Select Familiarisation. It states “Before the start of each section, you will be told how many questions there are and the time available.” and “The tests are designed so that you must use all the time allocated for each section.”

How do the second assessment and a remote interview work?

The second stage is dated and described on the 11+ page: “The second assessment will be held on Wednesday 6 January 2027. It will consist of a 45-minute English paper, testing creative writing and analytical skills, and a 45-minute maths paper, testing problem-solving.” The page adds “We also plan to give pupils a taste of lessons here at City.”

The page links specimens: “An English specimen paper can be found here and a maths specimen paper here.” Treat them as specimens: both PDFs are headed 11+ Entrance Exam (sample) and their web addresses sit in the school’s 2021 uploads folder. The English specimen directs “Spend 5 minutes reading the extract and questions.” then “Spend about 20 minutes writing your answer to Question 1 and checking it carefully.” The maths specimen instructs “You are not allowed a calculator” and “You must show your working out”.

Interviews come next, between Monday 11 and Thursday 21 January 2027. For a family abroad the FAQ gives the line that matters: “Interviews may be conducted remotely, and we will try to schedule them to a convenient time for your time zone.” Our guide to video interviews for overseas 11+ and 13+ applicants covers how online interviews run, for a family that wants to see the format before the date arrives.

Amazing tutors!

We arranged maths and English tuition ahead of GCSEs and both tutors were brilliant. My daughter's grades improved, and by results day she achieved two grades higher than in her mock exams.

What do those dates read as on a Dubai, Hong Kong or Singapore clock?

The school’s dates are UK dates. GOV.UK says “In the UK the clocks go forward 1 hour at 1am on the last Sunday in March, and back 1 hour at 2am on the last Sunday in October.” and “When the clocks go back, the UK is on Greenwich Mean Time (GMT).” Its table lists the 2026 change as 25 October and the 2027 change as 28 March, so the UK is on GMT from Sunday 25 October 2026 to Sunday 28 March 2027. Every date in the table above from Friday 30 October 2026 to early March 2027 falls inside that window. The welcome afternoon, in the summer term of 2027, falls after it, when the UK is on British Summer Time (BST), which the same table runs to Sunday 31 October 2027.

Dubai/UAE, Hong Kong and Singapore keep fixed offsets from UTC, as the IANA time zone database lists them. The working: London on GMT is UTC+0, so Dubai/UAE at UTC+4 is 4 hours ahead and Hong Kong and Singapore at UTC+8 are 8 hours ahead. On BST, which is UTC+1, the gaps become 3 and 7 hours.

RegionTime zone entryUTC offsetAhead of the UK while it is on GMT (25 October 2026 to 28 March 2027)Ahead of the UK while it is on BST (28 March to 31 October 2027)
Dubai/UAE and OmanAsia/Dubai, final line 4:00 - %z; “Link Asia/Dubai Asia/Muscat” links Muscat to itUTC+44 hours3 hours
Hong KongAsia/Hong_Kong, final line 8:00 HK HK%sT; its last daylight-saving rule is dated 21 October 1979UTC+88 hours7 hours
SingaporeAsia/Singapore, final line 8:00 - %zUTC+88 hours7 hours

To read a UK time on a local clock, add the hours in the table to it; when the sum passes midnight the local date is the next one. Ask admissions to state every hour with its date and its clock, GMT or BST, and say in the same message which time zone the family lives in. Our guide to online tuition and time zones works the same arithmetic for other regions.

What happens between the offer email and the welcome afternoon?

Offers arrive via email on Friday 12 February 2027, a date on GMT, so a family in Dubai/UAE reads that date 4 hours ahead and one in Hong Kong or Singapore 8 hours ahead. Acceptance has its own terms: “The acceptance terms and conditions will be detailed in the offer email. Acceptance of the offer must be made by the deadline and be accompanied by a deposit.” The school also states “All offer holders will be invited to visit the school one last time before the acceptance deadline.” and “After the deadline, we reserve the right to withdraw the offer of a place if it has not been accepted.”

Lines in the admissions policy bear on the wait: “A waiting list may be compiled.” and “The results of the assessments are not discussed with parents or made public.”

The welcome afternoon falls in the summer term of 2027. The term-dates box gives “Teaching begins Monday 19 April” for that term, which is after the UK moves to BST on Sunday 28 March 2027. The box for 2027-28 then gives the start of the year a September 2027 entrant joins: “Induction Day Friday 3 September (year 7, 12 and 13 pupils are required in school)” and “Teaching begins Monday 6 September”. Both dates fall while the UK is still on BST, so Dubai/UAE is 3 hours ahead and Hong Kong and Singapore 7.

What does the school say about where its pupils live?

The 11+ page opens: “City of London School for Girls is a selective, independent day school in the heart of the City. Girls come to us from all over London.” The school’s about page gives the age range: “City of London School for Girls is an independent day school for pupils aged 11-18 situated in the heart of the Barbican.”

The travelling page adds: “Pupils at City come from all over London. Our catchment area has increased in the past few years following the introduction of the Elizabeth Line. The map below should give you a good idea of the locations from which our current pupils travel every day. Most travel by public transport to school.”

Where a girl lives during the school year, and what immigration permission that stay needs, are for the family to settle before an offer is accepted in early March 2027. Our guide to the Child Student visa sets out the routes themselves, written for 13+ entry; the questions below put the family’s own arrangements to the school. Our page on the school itself is City of London School for Girls 11+.

Which questions should a family put to admissions in writing?

The school’s admissions pages say “If you have any questions, please contact our admissions team at admissions@clsg.org.uk.” Each question below is about the family’s own case; replace the bracketed details with the family’s.

  1. Our daughter lives in [country]. At what time, and on which clock, does registration close on Friday 30 October 2026, and do the same date and clock apply to the Year 7 (overseas applicants) form?
  2. Between 13 and 18 November 2026, may our daughter sit the one-hour first assessment somewhere other than City, and if she is to sit it at City, which day in that window will she be given?
  3. Our family lives partly in the UK and partly in [country]. Which of the Year 7 (UK applicants) and Year 7 (overseas applicants) forms should we use, and does that choice change the registration fee or the arrangements for the assessments?
  4. Our daughter attends [type of school] in [country]. How does the criterion “Girls currently enrolled in a state school” apply to her?
  5. Our daughter has had periods of schooling outside the UK. What should we enter in the pre-assessment form, and to whom should her headteacher abroad send the reference, and by when?
  6. Where will our daughter sit the two 45-minute papers on Wednesday 6 January 2027, and what does “a taste of lessons here at City” involve for a girl who has travelled?
  7. We live [4 or 8] hours ahead of the UK. On which date between Monday 11 and Thursday 21 January 2027, at what time on which clock, and on which video platform will our daughter’s remote interview be held?
  8. If our daughter is offered a place by email on Friday 12 February 2027, how is the deposit paid from abroad, and if we cannot travel for the visit offered before the acceptance deadline, what other arrangement is available?
  9. Our daughter would live with [relative or other adult] in [London borough]. What does the school need to know about her living arrangements before an offer is accepted, and can the school issue the confirmation of acceptance for studies that a Child Student visa application needs for our daughter?

Frequently Asked Questions

Can a girl living abroad register for City of London School for Girls?

Yes, on a separate form. The 11+ page says “If you are applying from overseas, please register using this link.” That form begins “To register your daughter for possible 11+ entry to City in September 2027 please complete this form.” The Register stage gives the closing date as Friday 30 October 2026. Ask admissions in writing for the closing time, and whether the same date and clock apply to the overseas form.

Can our daughter take the one-hour first assessment from home?

The 11+ page words the first assessment as “Pupils will be invited to City to sit a one-hour computer-based test, Cambridge Select Insight, assessing numerical, verbal and non-verbal skills.” It gives the window as between 13 and 18 November 2026. Whether another arrangement applies to a girl abroad, and which day she would be given, is a question for admissions at admissions@clsg.org.uk.

Can the interview be held online for a family in Dubai, Hong Kong or Singapore?

The FAQ says “Interviews may be conducted remotely, and we will try to schedule them to a convenient time for your time zone.” Interviews fall between Monday 11 and Thursday 21 January 2027. The UK is on GMT then, so Dubai is 4 hours ahead and Hong Kong and Singapore 8 hours ahead, by GOV.UK’s clock dates and the IANA time zone database. Give admissions the family’s time zone in writing.

Does City of London School for Girls expect extra tuition before the assessments?

The FAQ states “We do not wish for pupils to endure hours of extra tuition. The assessment is designed not to be ‘tutorable’.” It recommends the CEM familiarisation, the maths sample paper and the English sample paper. The second assessment on Wednesday 6 January 2027 has two 45-minute papers. The familiarisation page the school links says “Before the start of each section, you will be told how many questions there are and the time available.”

Can an overseas applicant apply for a bursary?

The bursaries page states “Overseas applicants are not eligible for a bursary.” The FAQ adds “Please note that the school does not consider applications for bursaries from overseas students.” That note sits in the FAQ answer that begins “We certainly do! Several pupils join us each year from overseas.” Offers for the 2027 entry cycle are emailed on Friday 12 February 2027.
