Haberdashers' Girls' School is an independent school in Elstree, Hertfordshire. A family living abroad registers a daughter for Year 7 (11+) entry in September 2027 on its Overseas admission form by Friday 6 November 2026. On its Occasional Places and Overseas tab, the school says “it is possible to sit our entrance assessments under the supervision of their current school” for any student applying from overseas. The offer acceptance deadline is Wednesday 3 March 2027 (9am).

Families outside the UK can take the whole programme online.

Our London independent schools hub sets the schools side by side; test format and results sit on our Haberdashers' Girls' School 11+ page.

Overseas admission form: the route in for a family abroad

The Haberdashers' Girls' School apply page carries a block headed Overseas admission form that says “If you are currently residing outside of the UK, please complete the online form below.” The school's main registration page sends overseas families to the same form: “Overseas residents: If you are currently residing outside of the UK, please do not complete the registration form below. Instead, please complete the Overseas Application Form available on our website, or contact the Admissions team at admissionsgirls@habselstree.org.uk for further guidance.”

The occasional-place registration page gives the same instruction to a family outside the UK: “Overseas residents: If you are currently residing outside of the UK, please do not complete the form below - please use the form available here”. The Overseas form page turns the sentence round for residents inside the UK: “Overseas residents: If you are currently residing inside of the UK, please do not complete the online form below - please use the form available on the main registration page”. Each sentence is about where the family is currently residing. Whether a family that moves to England before September 2027 changes form, and when, is a question for admissions; it is the first question in the written list further down.

Read in a browser on 9 October 2026 with nothing entered, the Overseas registration form starts with a Child's details section and then asks for Contact 1 and Contact 2. The same page adds “Please note: if there are two people who hold parental responsibility for your child, please ensure you enter both sets of details into the form.” and “After completing this form, the School will confirm your child's registration via email.” For a problem with the form it says “If you have any problems completing this form, please speak to the Admissions Office.”

To check which entry point a daughter applies for, the admissions process page lists “four formal entry points: 4+, 7+, 11+ and 16+”, pairs 11+ with Year 7 on its entry-point tabs, and carries a date-of-birth tool headed “Not sure? Enter your child's birth and we will let you know”. Our guide to which year group a child abroad applies for covers which birth dates are Year 7 in September 2027 and how school years abroad line up with them.

Where is the Assessment sat? Two lines from the school

For Year 7 (11+) entry the school's admissions process page describes a stage it calls the Assessment. It says “We have partnered with QUEST to develop a bespoke Habs paper-based assessment, combining multiple-choice and written questions.” The school lists the Assessment for Monday 23 November 2026.

The same page has a tab labelled “Occasional Places and Overseas”. Under the sub-heading “Overseas applicants” it carries one sentence, and the items headed General intake, Application dates and Assessments come before it in that tab. The two lines sit side by side here, each linked to the page they come from.

On the admissions process page Year 7 (11+) steps Tab labelled Occasional Places and Overseas
Sub-heading Assessment Overseas applicants
The school's words “The assessment will be held at Habs.” “For any student wishing to apply from overseas, it is possible to sit our entrance assessments under the supervision of their current school.”

Which line applies to a girl abroad who would sit the Year 7 Assessment on Monday 23 November 2026 is the question to put to the school in writing; it is question 2 in the list below.

The school's invitation to families is “Your child can familiarise themselves with the format and style of questions by trying our Familiarisation Test”. In its answer to “My child is currently at a state school. Will they be at a disadvantage?” the Admissions FAQs say “Our assessments look for potential and the ability to think independently. Since the 11+ paper is based on skills taught within the National Curriculum, no tutoring or preparation is needed to demonstrate these qualities.”

For where this school's Assessment sits among the tests other London independent schools set, see our guide to which entrance test each London independent school sets.

What are the key dates for Year 7, September 2027 entry?

Haberdashers' Girls' School's Year 7 key dates, read on 10 October 2026, run from registration on Friday 6 November 2026 to the offer acceptance deadline on Wednesday 3 March 2027, so they serve Year 7 (11+) entry in September 2027. The table adds the Senior 11+ events from the school's Book a visit page, read on 10 October 2026. The UK clock column comes from GOV.UK's clock-change table: clocks go back on 25 October 2026 and forward on 28 March 2027, so the UK is on British Summer Time (BST) for the first row and on Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) from 25 October 2026 until 28 March 2027.

What happens at the interview and team exercise, Friday 8 to Friday 15 January 2027?

Haberdashers' Girls' School's Year 7 steps follow the Assessment with an interview and team exercise and say “Approximately half of students are invited back for an interview and team exercise.” The window in its key dates is Friday 8 - Friday 15 January 2027. Of its purpose the school says “This enables us to look beyond assessment results and gain a deeper understanding of each student’s interests, character, aspirations and potential contribution to the Habs community.” It adds “Parents are also invited to an informal meeting with members of the leadership team.”

Whether the school can hold the interview and team exercise, or the parents' meeting, by video or away from the school is a question for admissions (question 5 below). Our guide to video interviews for families abroad covers the practicalities of an interview held online.

When do offers go out, and what is 9am on 3 March 2027 abroad?

Haberdashers' Girls' School lists Offers sent out (email) for Friday 12 February 2027, an Offer holder event on Friday 26 February 2027 and an Offer acceptance deadline of Wednesday 3 March 2027 (9am), for Year 7 (11+) entry in September 2027. Confidence and progress

My son was low in confidence after COVID and the gaps in learning were building up. Using this service helped plug those gaps, rebuild confidence, and improve his ability to learn properly again.

Amazing tutors!

We arranged maths and English tuition ahead of GCSEs and both tutors were brilliant. My daughter's grades improved, and by results day she achieved two grades higher than in her mock exams.

Scholarship and bursary steps, and the Bursary Information Zoom

At Haberdashers' Girls' School the Year 7 Register step says “Applications are completed through our website. Families may also apply for scholarships and bursaries at this stage. Scholarships and bursaries require additional application forms.” The scholarships page gives the 11+ form deadline as “the appropriate form needs to be submitted by Friday 6 November for 11+ applications”, which is the registration deadline day in the key dates. The bursary application deadline is Thursday 19 November 2026.

On bursaries, the fee assistance page says “Bursaries are available to all our Senior School students entering at Year 7 and Year 12. To qualify, your child will need to hold the offer of a place from us.” It also says “All students applying for a bursary will need to sit our standard entrance assessments.” The Year 7 steps say “Families applying for financial support meet confidentially with the Finance team to discuss their application.” and the fee assistance page describes “The process includes an informal meeting with a member of our Finance team.” For the start of an application it says “If you wish to apply for bursary assistance, a contact email will be shared with you at point of registration.”

The Book a visit page lists a Bursary Information Zoom for Senior 11+ on Wednesday 14 October, 5:30 - 6:30pm; its conversion for Dubai, Qatar, Hong Kong and Singapore is in the clock table above. How the Finance team meeting and the standard entrance assessments work for a family living abroad is question 9 below.

Occasional Places and Overseas: Years 8, 9 and 10

The Haberdashers' Girls' School page adds “Occasionally we also have spaces in Years 1, 4, 5, 8, 9 and 10.” This section covers Year 8, Year 9 and Year 10 occasional places, which are separate from the Year 7 (11+) cycle above. The overseas sentence quoted above sits in this part of the page; the lines below are the school's occasional-place lines for Years 8, 9 and 10. The form for registering interest is titled “Occasional place application form 2027”.

  1. Register interest (Years 8, 9 and 10; form titled 2027). “We ask you to register your interest in the first instance by filling out this form”
  2. February contact (Years 8, 9 and 10). “In February, we will contact those who have registered their interest to confirm which year groups have occasional places available. At that point, if there is a place available in the year group you are seeking, we will invite you to register formally via our website in the usual way.”
  3. Assessments (Years 8, 9 and 10). “The admissions process for occasional places varies according to the Year Group. Based on the year of entry, the assessments include English and Maths, followed by an interview with a member of our senior staff.” The page adds “Assessments take place at the end of February /the beginning of March for entry in September of that year.”
  4. Offer (Years 8, 9 and 10). “Successful candidates will receive an offer before the end of the Spring term.”

The school introduces languages with “Learning French, German and Spanish forms an important part of our curriculum, and this has a bearing on applications for occasional places:”

Occasional place, entry year group (form titled 2027) What the school says about languages
Year 8 “In Year 8 entry – Students study two of the three languages. If your child has no previous experience of these languages, with hard work and determination it would be possible for them to pick up these languages as a beginner.”
Year 9 “Entry into Year 9 – Students study two of the three languages. By this stage, existing Habs students will already have been studying their chosen languages for two years, so your child will need previous experience of learning two of them.”
Year 10 “Entry into Year 10 – Students study at least one of the three languages at GCSE level, so previous experience is essential when joining in Year 10.”
The sentence after the Year 10 line “There are some occasions where we will work with you and your child to see if there is anything we can do to work around this.”

A girl whose current school abroad teaches other languages is a case for admissions to judge; it is question 11 below.

Questions to put to admissions in writing

The school asks families to start by email: “please email our admissions team in the first instance at admissionsgirls@habselstree.org.uk or call 020 8266 2300”. These are questions about your own case for Haberdashers' Girls' School. We suggest keeping every reply in writing.

  1. We live outside the UK now and expect to live in England before September 2027. Should we register our daughter through the Overseas admission form, as the apply page says for those “currently residing outside of the UK”, and what do we tell the school when we move?
  2. The Year 7 Assessment step says “The assessment will be held at Habs.” and the Overseas applicants sentence says “it is possible to sit our entrance assessments under the supervision of their current school”. Which applies to our daughter, in Year 6 abroad, for the Assessment on Monday 23 November 2026?
  3. If she sits the Assessment at her current school, who supervises it, what start time does the paper use, and is that UK time?
  4. Is the registration deadline of Friday 6 November 2026 a particular time of day, and is it UK time? Is the 9am on Wednesday 3 March 2027 UK time?
  5. If our daughter is invited to the interview and team exercise between Friday 8 and Friday 15 January 2027, can it be held by video or on a day that suits our travel, and can we join the parents' meeting from abroad?
  6. Who will answer registration emails during the half-term holiday of Monday 19 October to Friday 30 October, given that the registration deadline is Friday 6 November 2026?
  7. If our daughter needs immigration permission to study in England, what does the school need to see from us, and at which stage? Our guide to the Child Student visa, written for 13+ boarding entry, covers the rules.
  8. If our daughter will live in England before we do, which adult does the school need to be responsible for her, and what does it ask of that adult? Our guide to educational guardians, written for UK boarding schools, covers the role.
  9. If we apply for a bursary from abroad, the school says “All students applying for a bursary will need to sit our standard entrance assessments.” and describes “an informal meeting with a member of our Finance team”. How is each held for a family living abroad, and does the bursary application deadline of Thursday 19 November 2026 apply to us?
  10. Our daughter is in Year 8, 9 or 10 abroad. If a place is available the school says it will “invite you to register formally via our website in the usual way”, and the occasional-place registration page says “Overseas residents: If you are currently residing outside of the UK, please do not complete the form below - please use the form available here”: which form do we use for that formal registration, and would her assessments at the end of February or the beginning of March be sat under her current school's supervision?
  11. Our daughter's school abroad teaches languages other than French, German and Spanish. For Year 9 entry the school says “your child will need previous experience of learning two of them”, and the languages lines end with “There are some occasions where we will work with you and your child to see if there is anything we can do to work around this.” Does her current language study count?
