James Allen’s Girls’ School (JAGS) is an independent day school for girls aged 4 to 18 in Dulwich, London, and its 11+ Overseas Registration Form for September 2027 entry closes on 10 November 2026. JAGS states that 11+ overseas applicants can sit the ISEB Common Pre-test abroad, with the creative writing element of the Welcome Morning, that an interview is arranged via Zoom, and that it does not sponsor overseas applicants for visas.

Tuition can be one to one, and families outside the UK can take the whole programme online.

The London independent schools hub compares the capital’s schools; test format, results and the rest of the entry process are on our JAGS 11+ page.

Living with family, guardians and visas: JAGS’s own wording

The Apply page says “Our main point of entry to the Senior School is from Year 7 (11+)”, so the Senior School section of the James Allen’s Girls’ School FAQs page is the one that covers this route. It words the residence point in three sentences: “JAGS is a day school and does not provide any boarding facilities for students. We can only accept applications on behalf of candidates who are living in travelling distance of the school with their immediate families. Please note that we do not accept applications from candidates living with a guardian.”

The same section adds a distance expectation: “It is expected that students should live within a reasonable distance of the school so that their journey to and from JAGS is not too demanding. We may query an application where, in our opinion, the home location necessitates an overly long or arduous journey.” Its entry headed “Does JAGS take overseas candidates?” directs enquiries about overseas applications to its Admissions Officer (Chance Vacancy and Sixth Form) at admissions@jags.org.uk; the Joining JAGS page lists the Head of Admissions at the same address for 11+.

The visa wording sits in the 11+ section of the Joining JAGS page, in the same paragraph, after the Zoom interview sentence: “Please note that we do not sponsor overseas applicants for visas.” The Admissions Policy PDF listed on the JAGS Policies page carries the header words “Admissions Policy Reviewed: December 2025” and, in its Overseas Applicants paragraph, says: “The School does not provide visas to enable overseas students to come to the UK to study. Applicants and pupils must meet the appropriate UK government visa requirements in place at the time.” Our pages on the Child Student visa and on educational guardians cover the general rules for each.

On language, the same FAQs section says: “We do accept applications from students whose first language is not English. However, students should be fluent in English to ensure they are able to keep pace academically with their peers at JAGS and to benefit from the wide and varied co-curricular opportunities offered at the school.” The 11+ section of the Joining JAGS page opens with “We warmly welcome applicants from a wide variety of backgrounds, from both the independent and maintained sectors as well as from abroad.”

Two phrases in the residence sentences are worth putting to admissions in writing, with your own household in mind: “immediate families” and “living with a guardian”. The questions are worded for a family in the section on questions below, and the Policy’s own wording is set beside the FAQ wording in the section on the Admissions Policy.

When do the 11+ stages fall for September 2027 entry, from the form opening on 22 April 2026 to acceptance?

The table runs in date order for September 2027 Year 7 (11+) entry; Year 7 in September 2027 is for children in Year 6 in the 2026 to 2027 school year, and the birth dates are here. Its Key Dates PDF is titled “Key Dates in our Admission Programme For 11+ Entry in September 2027”. Dates that have passed are marked as passed, and each row links the page that carries it. Quoted from JAGS, ISEB and GOV.UK pages read on Saturday 10 October 2026; our 11+ from overseas hub gives the rules for other schools and areas.

What does the 11+ Overseas Registration Form need: documents, the ISEB Applicant Code and both parents’ contacts?

The Apply page lists the 11+ Overseas Registration Form beside the standard 11+ form, under the line “Registration for 11+ entry in September 2027 is now open and will close on 10 November 2026.” The Key Dates PDF gives the window: “Our Registration form opens online from 22 April 2026 for those applying for entry in September 2027 and closes on 10 November 2026.” It adds “regretfully we cannot accept late applications.”

The Apply page sends 11+ applicants to ISEB to register their daughter for the Common Pre-test from June, and says: “Please make a note of your daughter’s ISEB Applicant Code, which you will need for the JAGS registration form.” For a family that registered with JAGS first: “If you have already submitted a registration form prior to June, please provide your daughter’s ISEB Applicant Code to the Head of Admissions via email at admissions@jags.org.uk once you have registered her with ISEB, thank you.”

Under the heading “FOR ALL ENTRY POINTS AND BEFORE REGISTERING”, the Apply page lists, among other points, these three:

After the form is in: “We will then process your daughter’s application and send you formal acknowledgment, with details of next steps.”

Where can a girl sit the ISEB Common Pre-test abroad, and what is the 9 December 2026 limit?

The Joining JAGS page describes the first stage under “Joining at 11+ (Year 7)”: “The Independent Schools’ Examination Board (ISEB) Common Pre-test comprises online multiple-choice tests in Maths, English, Verbal Reasoning and Non-Verbal Reasoning and each test is age-standardised. No preparation is required.” For a candidate living abroad it says: “11+ Overseas applicants may apply and can sit their ISEB Common Pre-test abroad, along with the creative writing element of the Welcome Morning, rather than attending in person.”

The Key Dates PDF lists where the test is sat:

On the invigilation centre itself, the Joining JAGS page says “if you are registering your daughter for a place at JAGS, you do not need to ask our permission before selecting us as the invigilation centre. We will approve your request from our end. Applicants whose schools are hosting these tests should, however, sit them at their current school, and parents should select the appropriate invigilation centre.” On a second school’s window it says: “Please note that you may need to select another Senior School to which your daughter has applied, if they are using the ISEB Common Pre-test and have a shorter window for sitting the tests. Our own deadline for completion of the tests is Wednesday 9 December.”

ISEB answers the overseas question on its own registration page: “Yes, it is possible for applicants to take the ISEB Pre-Tests overseas. For overseas applicants, parents should ask the child’s current school if they can invigilate the ISEB Pre-Tests. If the pupil’s current school cannot accommodate the test, please contact ISEB for support in sourcing an approved non-school invigilation centre.” It also says: “If you select an invigilation centre in the guardian portal you will need to contact them to ensure they have booked the test for you and it is scheduled to take place before your child’s test deadline.” Booking a centre is explained on our ISEB Pre-Test abroad page, and the test each London school sets is on our which entrance test page.

The Admissions Policy (“Admissions Policy Reviewed: December 2025”) attaches a condition to a sitting abroad: “Applicants living abroad may, subject to appropriate invigilation arrangements being in place, be able to sit the Prep and Senior School Entrance Examinations at their current school.”

The Welcome Morning creative writing task and the Zoom interview

The Joining JAGS page lists what a Welcome Morning holds: “Welcome Mornings consist of:”

The Key Dates PDF places it in the autumn term: “Attendance at a Welcome Morning at some point in the Autumn term (from mid October through to late November).” The Joining JAGS page adds: “We have 10 dates for Welcome Mornings across the autumn term; if your daughter is unable to make the date allocated we can suggest another date.”

For an overseas applicant, the same page puts the creative writing element “along with the creative writing element of the Welcome Morning” beside the ISEB sitting abroad, and gives the interview its own sentence: “An interview will be arranged via Zoom.” The Admissions Policy (“Admissions Policy Reviewed: December 2025”) words the interview more generally: “Ideally applicants will attend the School for any interviews or further assessments which may be required, including for any scholarships, but where this is not possible alternative arrangements may be made, where feasible.” Our page on video interviews for overseas applicants covers the general set-up of a video call.

References come from the school the candidate attends: “We will be requesting references directly from the Head of the candidate’s current school.” The Policy says “A reference is requested from an applicant’s current school prior to an offer being made.”

Tuition can be one to one, and families outside the UK can take the whole programme online.

Confidence and progress

My son was low in confidence after COVID and the gaps in learning were building up. Using this service helped plug those gaps, rebuild confidence, and improve his ability to learn properly again.

Amazing tutors!

We arranged maths and English tuition ahead of GCSEs and both tutors were brilliant. My daughter's grades improved, and by results day she achieved two grades higher than in her mock exams.

What is 12.00 noon on the UK clock in Dubai, Qatar and Hong Kong?

This section converts the clock time in JAGS’s acceptance rule: the Key Dates PDF sets acceptances for “12.00 noon” on the date in the offer letter. The table shows the working if this is UK time.

GOV.UK says “In the UK the clocks go forward 1 hour at 1am on the last Sunday in March, and back 1 hour at 2am on the last Sunday in October.” Its table lists 29 March and 25 October for 2026 and 28 March and 31 October for 2027, so London is on GMT (UTC+0) from 25 October 2026 to 28 March 2027 and on British Summer Time (BST, UTC+1) either side of those dates. The IANA time zone database gives UTC+4 for Asia/Dubai (the UAE), UTC+3 for Asia/Qatar and Asia/Riyadh (with Bahrain following Qatar and Kuwait following Riyadh, per its backward file) and UTC+8 for Asia/Hong_Kong and Asia/Singapore. Our time zones page sets out the same gaps for online lessons.

Results letters, the waiting list and acceptance by noon

The Joining JAGS page gives one sentence for offers: “Offers are sent out on Thursday 11 February 2027.” The Key Dates PDF says “All results letters will be sent out by email on Thursday 11 February.” It continues: “Some of these letters may be for places on a short waiting list. Information about precise positions on the waiting list is not given.”

For acceptances the Key Dates PDF says: “The school must receive written notice of fee-paying acceptances by 12.00 noon (with bursary awards by 9.00 am) on the date stated in our offer letter . If no reply has been received by the stated date and time it will be assumed that you do not wish to accept and the place may be reoffered.” The Celebration Morning events in the table above are for “offerees, waitlisted applicants and their parents”.

Where do the Admissions Policy and the current JAGS pages word it differently?

The Admissions Policy PDF on the JAGS Policies page carries the header words “Admissions Policy Reviewed: December 2025”. On two points its wording sits beside different wording on the current pages.

PointAdmissions Policy (Reviewed: December 2025)Current James Allen’s Girls’ School page, read on 10 October 2026
Who the child lives with“The School only accepts pupils who reside with their parent(s) or legal guardians in a location close enough to travel from home to school and back daily.” “Throughout this policy, the term ‘parents’ should be taken to mean a child’s parents or legal guardians.”“We can only accept applications on behalf of candidates who are living in travelling distance of the school with their immediate families. Please note that we do not accept applications from candidates living with a guardian.” (Senior School FAQ)
11+ registration date“must complete their registration by 4.00pm on 31 October for 11+ and Chance Vacancy entry” “These deadlines may be subject to review and change from year to year, and parents should check the school’s website for current information.”“Registration for 11+ entry in September 2027 is now open and will close on 10 November 2026.” (Apply page)

Before relying on either wording, put the point to admissions@jags.org.uk in writing and keep the reply.

What does JAGS say to a family abroad at 4+, 7+ and 16+ entry in September 2027?

Questions to put to JAGS admissions in writing about your own case

The FAQs page and the Apply page both give admissions@jags.org.uk. Put these to James Allen’s Girls’ School in writing and keep the reply.

  1. Our daughter will start Year 7 in September 2027 living with one parent and her grandparents. Does JAGS count that household as her immediate family under the Senior School FAQ wording?
  2. The Admissions Policy speaks of parent(s) or legal guardians and the Senior School FAQ of living with a guardian. Which wording applies to our daughter, and by what date do you need our UK address?
  3. Our daughter’s school abroad is not yet an ISEB invigilation centre. Who at JAGS can confirm an approved non-school centre in our city, and by what date must the sitting be booked?
  4. The ISEB window opens in early November and registration closes on 10 November 2026. Should we register with JAGS first, and does the ISEB Applicant Code go on the form or follow by email?
  5. On which day, at what time and in which time zone is our Zoom interview, and is it on the same day as our Welcome Morning date?
  6. How is the interactive group task handled for a candidate who sits the creative writing task from abroad?
  7. Our daughter holds a passport from one country and a visa for another, and none for the UK. What should we write when we detail her residency status on the form?
  8. Is 12.00 noon on the acceptance date in the offer letter London time, and does that apply to a family in Dubai or Hong Kong?

Frequently Asked Questions

Can my daughter sit the James Allen’s Girls’ School 11+ from abroad?

“11+ Overseas applicants may apply and can sit their ISEB Common Pre-test abroad, along with the creative writing element of the Welcome Morning, rather than attending in person. An interview will be arranged via Zoom.” That is the Joining JAGS page for 11+ entry in September 2027. The Key Dates PDF gives 9 December 2026 as the limit for the ISEB sitting, and registration closes on 10 November 2026.

Can my daughter live with a guardian or board while we stay abroad and apply to James Allen’s Girls’ School?

“We can only accept applications on behalf of candidates who are living in travelling distance of the school with their immediate families. Please note that we do not accept applications from candidates living with a guardian.” That is the Senior School FAQ. The Admissions Policy (Reviewed: December 2025) words it as “reside with their parent(s) or legal guardians”. Write to admissions@jags.org.uk to ask which applies to your family.

Does James Allen’s Girls’ School sponsor a visa for an overseas applicant?

“Please note that we do not sponsor overseas applicants for visas.” That sentence is in the 11+ section of the Joining JAGS page. The Admissions Policy (Reviewed: December 2025) adds: “Applicants and pupils must meet the appropriate UK government visa requirements in place at the time.” Ask admissions@jags.org.uk in writing what your daughter’s status needs to be on the first day of term in September 2027.

Which documents do we scan before starting the James Allen’s Girls’ School overseas form?

The Apply page lists, among other points: “You will need your daughter’s FULL birth certificate and passport, scanned and uploaded to your computer.” For a daughter with an overseas passport plus a UK visa or residency paperwork it says “please detail her residency status in the registration form and scan and upload the documentation.” It also gives this alternative: “If neither parent was born in the UK but at least one now has a UK passport, please upload their UK passport instead.” The form also asks for your daughter’s ISEB Applicant Code.

When do James Allen’s Girls’ School 11+ results letters go out for September 2027 entry?

“Offers are sent out on Thursday 11 February 2027.” “Some of these letters may be for places on a short waiting list.” The Key Dates PDF lists 11+ Celebration Morning events for offerees, waitlisted applicants and their parents on Tuesday 23 and Thursday 25 February 2027 and says the school must receive written notice of fee-paying acceptances by “12.00 noon” on the date in the offer letter.

What time is the James Allen’s Girls’ School acceptance deadline in Dubai, Doha or Hong Kong?

The Key Dates PDF sets “12.00 noon” on the date in the offer letter. If this is UK time and the date is up to 27 March 2027, the UK is on GMT, so noon is 16:00 in Dubai/UAE, 15:00 in Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia, and 20:00 in Hong Kong and Singapore. From 28 March 2027 the UK is on BST and the same times are 15:00, 14:00 and 19:00. Ask admissions@jags.org.uk in writing whether noon means London time.

Which James Allen’s Girls’ School registration date applies, 31 October or 10 November 2026?

The Admissions Policy (Reviewed: December 2025) says “must complete their registration by 4.00pm on 31 October for 11+ and Chance Vacancy entry” and also “parents should check the school’s website for current information.” The Apply page says “Registration for 11+ entry in September 2027 is now open and will close on 10 November 2026.” Confirm the date in writing with admissions@jags.org.uk and keep the reply.
