King’s is one of the schools on our guide to London independent schools for families abroad.

The right to be resident and study in the United Kingdom

A condition appears on both the 11+ and 13+ pages of King’s College School Wimbledon: “All pupils at King’s must have the right to be resident and study in the United Kingdom. The school does not sponsor pupils under the Child Student Visa Scheme.” That is the wording on the 11+ page, which serves entry in Year 7 in September 2027. The 13+ page, which serves entry in Year 9 in September 2029, carries the same wording, and so does the Admissions Policy, reviewed in August 2026, in section 3.2.

The policy opens by describing King’s as “an independent day school which currently educates boys aged 7-18 and girls aged 16-18”. For 11+ entry its section 4.4.4 adds a condition about the family’s intentions: “Pupils are admitted into the senior school on the understanding that their parents intend them to complete their secondary education (to the end of year 13/ upper sixth) at the school, subject to the absence of unforeseen circumstances requiring a change of plan.”

The Home Office side of the Child Student route is set out in our guide to the Child Student visa. Questions about your own family’s position belong with King’s admissions, in writing; question 4 below is one of them.

Where do overseas candidates sit the tests, and when are they interviewed?

The King’s College School Wimbledon 11+ page (Year 7, September 2027) and 13+ page (Year 9, September 2029) use the same two sentences: “Overseas candidates will be required to travel to King’s to sit our entry tests. In order to avoid unnecessary travel, overseas candidates will be interviewed at King's the day prior to the written tests.” The 13+ page repeats them word for word.

King’s lists the 11+ entry tests for Saturday 5th December 2026 (morning) and the 13+ (Year 9, September 2029) entry tests for the same Saturday 5th December 2026 (morning). Counting back one day from that Saturday gives Friday 4 December 2026 for the interview. That date is our arithmetic from the school’s wording and its 5 December date; the time, building and length of the interview are for admissions to confirm in writing.

The 11+ page also describes an interview after the results: “Once we have the examination results, we decide which children to invite back for an interview.” Invitations are emailed on Monday 11th January 2027 and interviews for selected candidates are held on Thursday 14th, Friday 15th and Saturday 16th January 2027. In the school’s wording for overseas candidates the interview comes before the tests. How the two fit together for a boy who is interviewed the day before the tests is a question for admissions (question 2 below).

The Admissions Policy has a section headed “Special consideration”: “Special consideration may be given to a candidate who has temporarily experienced illness, injury or some other event outside of their control during or immediately before our admissions assessments or interviews. Any request for special circumstances to be taken into account during the assessment process must be made on or before the day of the assessments or interviews as appropriate.” Whether a delayed flight counts is a question for admissions (question 8 below).

Which dates apply for September 2027 entry, and what is noon on your clock?

The table follows King’s College School Wimbledon’s key-dates table for 11+ entry (Year 7, September 2027) for boys born between 1 September 2015 and 31 August 2016, with the registration opening date from the entry-date table on the same page and one row we derived and labelled. Each date links to the page that gives it, and the tense follows the date.

King’s prints a clock time for two of these rows, “12 noon”. If this is UK time, the UK is on Greenwich Mean Time (GMT, UTC+0) on both dates: the clocks go back at 2am on the last Sunday in October and forward at 1am on the last Sunday in March, which makes 25 October 2026 and 28 March 2027, so Monday 2 November 2026 and Wednesday 3 March 2027 both fall on GMT. The offsets below come from the IANA time-zone database; Oman is linked there to the UAE clock, and Bahrain and Kuwait to the Qatar and Saudi Arabia clocks (link list).

Which entry year applies to a boy born on a given date?

King’s College School Wimbledon keys each route to date of birth. The rows below are the school’s own, with the route added from the page they come from.

“It is not possible to apply for both 11+ and 13+ entry. All children are assessed in year 6 and offers for both the 11+ and 13+ entry points are made in February of year 6.” A boy born between 1 September 2015 and 31 August 2016 therefore sits in December 2026 whichever route his family chooses. How school years abroad line up with these birth dates is covered on our which year group guide.

King’s says there are “three examinations: English, Mathematics and Verbal Reasoning”. Which test each London school sets is compared on our guide to the test each London school sets, and King’s own 11+ test format has its own King’s 11+ guide.

Registration: the passport scan, the Year 5 report and the head teacher’s reference

Registration at King’s College School Wimbledon is made through an online application form. King’s recommends a window for it: “We recommend that you register at the end of year 5 or the start of year 6, no later than the deadline, which is in early November of year 6.” For 11+ entry in September 2027 the deadline is Monday 2 November 2026 at 12 noon (the table above converts the hour).

The form asks for uploads: “You will be asked to upload scans of the photo page of your child’s passport, a passport-style photo of your child, their end of year 5 report and brief outlines of their academic and co-curricular interests and achievements (maximum 100 words per section).” The Admissions Policy says the same about the report: “Applications must include the candidate’s most recent school report, ideally the end of year 5 school report.”

The school then asks for a reference. A short while after the registration deadline has passed, King’s asks the child’s head teacher for a confidential reference. The policy says whom it asks: “The head of a candidate’s current school will be asked to provide supporting material, ideally in the form of a written reference commenting on the candidate’s academic ability, attitude and behaviour, as well as general interests and participation in school life, and any special circumstances such as special educational needs or disability.” The registration form also collects language: “Information about your child's first language will be asked for in the online registration form.”

What does King’s College School Wimbledon say about English as an Additional Language?

The King’s College School Wimbledon Admissions Policy, section 7.1, sets the assumption behind the tests: “The academic standards and wide-ranging co-curricular programme at King's mean that pupils need to be fluent in English. Our entrance assessment process therefore assumes that all candidates are able readers, speakers and writers of English.” The 11+ page adds that “exam concessions may be available for candidates with a specific learning difficulty, disability, or long-term medical condition, or for candidates for whom English is an Additional Language.”

The King’s College School Wimbledon Entrance Exam Concessions Policy, reviewed in June 2026, is the document the 11+ page links for those concessions. Its section 5.1 covers a dictionary: “A bilingual translation dictionary (provided by the school) may be used in entrance examinations by candidates whose first language is not English, Irish or Welsh, and must reflect the candidate’s normal way of working in their school; a letter from their current school will be required to confirm this. The bilingual translation dictionary may not be used in English examinations, Verbal Reasoning paper (11+ and 13+)…”

Section 5.2 attaches extra time to a list of conditions, all of which must be met: “An allowance of 25% extra time as well as the bilingual translation dictionary will be given, only in applicable exams, and if all of the following conditions are met:”

Some of the conditions are written in terms of a candidate who has entered or arrived in the UK. Whether and how they apply to a boy who lives abroad and travels to sit the tests is a question for admissions (question 6 below).

Confidence and progress

My son was low in confidence after COVID and the gaps in learning were building up. Using this service helped plug those gaps, rebuild confidence, and improve his ability to learn properly again.

Amazing tutors!

We arranged maths and English tuition ahead of GCSEs and both tutors were brilliant. My daughter's grades improved, and by results day she achieved two grades higher than in her mock exams.

What happens from the offer to the first day?

The King’s College School Wimbledon 11+ page words the timing of offers as follows, quoted as written:

Put the date to admissions in writing and keep the reply.

Acceptance is a form and a payment, and the Admissions Policy says who signs: “An offer of a place for the pupil at the school is accepted by the submission of the completed Acceptance Form and payment of the deposit.” It continues: “Other than in exceptional circumstances, and at the discretion of the school alone, the school requires all those with parental responsibility for a pupil to sign the Acceptance Form, irrespective of a court order or any other arrangement that parents may have entered into regarding the division of responsibilities.” The deadline for accepting 11+ offers is Wednesday 3rd March 2027 at 12 noon, which the clock table above puts at 16:00, 15:00 or 20:00 on the clocks listed if this is UK time.

For a boy joining in Year 7 in September 2027, the school adds: “All children who have been offered places in year 7 at King’s will be invited in for an induction day in the summer term before they join King’s, when they can meet their teachers and the other children in their year. There will also be a second induction day before the beginning of the autumn term.”

13+ (Year 9) entry: tested in December 2026 for September 2029

13+ (Year 9), September 2029 entry

A 13+ pre-test sat in Year 6 in December 2026 serves September 2029 entry. The route is chosen at registration: “It is not possible to apply for both 11+ and 13+ entry. The tests are taken on the same day in December of year 6 and offers for each are made in February. Parents must decide by the registration deadline date, which route they wish to enter their son for.” The Admissions Policy, section 4.5.1, adds: “The 11+ and the pre-test for entry at 13+ consist of the same papers and are sat on the same day. Parents must state when registering that their child is sitting for entry in year 9. It is possible to transfer this preference to 11+ at any time before the registration deadline.”

The dates for this route match the 11+ ones up to the results: registration closes at 12 noon on Monday 2nd November 2026, the entry tests are on Saturday 5th December 2026 (morning), and results are emailed on Friday 12th February 2027. Interviews work as the 13+ page describes: “In early January you will be told whether or not your son has been invited back to be interviewed. Most interviews will last for approximately 20 minutes and will cover a range of topics.” The offer is conditional: “In mid-February some parents will receive a letter making their son a conditional offer of a place in year 9.”

Between the test and the start of Year 9 there are further dates. King’s dates them as initial acceptance of the conditional place on Monday 1st March 2027, the deposit in early February 2028, King’s academic scholarship examinations in May 2029, a welcome day in June 2029 and the start of the fourth form (Year 9) in September 2029. In between, “Entry to year 9 at King’s, for all those holding conditional places, will be by means of two satisfactory head teacher’s reports: the first by the end of the summer term in year 7; the second by the end of the spring term in year 8. Subject to a pupil’s progress and performance satisfying King’s requirements, we will confirm his offer of a place at King’s for entry into year 9 by the middle of May in year 8.” King’s test papers and scholarships for this route are on our King’s 13+ guide, and the wider options for a family abroad are on our 13+ from overseas hub.

Our specialist tutors build structured programmes tailored to your child's target school and current ability level. Tuition is delivered online via a high-quality video platform, meaning our specialist tutors are accessible to families regardless of location.

13+ (Year 9), September 2027 entry: the Year 8 assessment

The 13+ page’s entry table gives “registration has closed” for boys born between 1 September 2013 and 31 August 2014, who would enter in September 2027. Separately, King’s describes a Year 8 assessment for that birth year, and lists who may take it: “Pupils who did not sit the pre-test in year 6 or who sat the test but did not receive an offer, who have the full support of their head as a strong candidate to join King’s in year 9.” and “All those who have been placed on the waiting list after the pre-test in year 6.” The page adds a limit: it says “our policy remains that any pupils who have taken the 11+ entrance test for King’s, but been unsuccessful, will not have an opportunity to take the 13+ assessment in year 8.”

The Admissions Policy words the Year 8 eligibility too. Its section 4.6.1 reads: “A small number of additional places may be available for 13+ entry via a year 8 assessment opportunity for those who fulfil the following criteria: all those who have been placed on the waiting list following the 13+ pre-test taken in year 6; candidates not offered a place after the 13+ pre-test, who have made exceptional progress by the end of year 7 and with their head’s support; and pupils who have not previously sat entry tests for the senior school, i.e. 11+ or 13+ pre-test in year 6, whose head feels they would be a strong candidate for King’s and supports their application.” The two wordings differ: compare the list on the 13+ page with this one, and ask King’s admissions to confirm in writing which applies to your son.

The school’s table for it runs as follows. Registration ran from 2nd March to 19th June 2026, the head’s reference was requested on 1st September 2026, the written assessment at King’s was scheduled for 24th September 2026, and results and interview invitations were scheduled for 2nd October 2026. Interviews were set for the week commencing 5th October 2026, results are emailed to parents by 16th October 2026 and the deposit to confirm a place is due on 11th November 2026. The school states that “Registration for our year 8 assessment for 13+ entry in September 2027 has now closed.”

Which questions should a family put to admissions in writing?

These are questions about your own case, not statements about what King’s publishes. Send them to the King’s College School Wimbledon admissions office at admissions@kcs.org.uk, give your son’s date of birth and the entry year, and keep the reply. The 11+ page gives the telephone number 020 8255 5349 and the 13+ page gives 020 8255 5342. If the question is who looks after a boy in the UK, our guide to educational guardians covers that separate side.

  1. We live abroad and will fly in for the tests on Saturday 5 December 2026. On which day, at what time and in which building will our son’s interview at King’s be held, how long will it last, and may a parent stay with him?
  2. Our son would be interviewed the day before the tests, while King’s describes deciding “which children to invite back for an interview” once it has the results. Is the interview the day before the tests the only one, or will we need to travel again in January 2027?
  3. Our son would like to apply for a music or a sport scholarship. Do the sport assessments (19 and 26 November 2026) or the music auditions (19 and 20 January 2027) need a separate trip, and does the overseas arrangement apply to them?
  4. We live abroad and hold passports from another country. Which documents show that our son has “the right to be resident and study in the United Kingdom”, and when does the school ask to see them?
  5. His school abroad does not use UK year groups and issues its reports at different times. Which report should we upload in place of the “end of year 5 report”, and whom should King’s contact as his head teacher for the confidential reference?
  6. English is not our son’s first language and he attends an international school. Which of the conditions listed in section 5.2 of the Entrance Exam Concessions Policy would King’s consider that he meets, and what should his current school send?
  7. Both parents live abroad. After the results on 12 February 2027, can everyone with parental responsibility sign the Acceptance Form from abroad, and what must reach King’s before 12 noon on Wednesday 3 March 2027?
  8. A flight delay or an illness could affect us around Friday 4 and Saturday 5 December 2026. Whom do we tell, and by when, so that the special consideration rule can apply?
  9. Our son was born between 1 September 2015 and 31 August 2016, so both routes sit the same papers on 5 December 2026. Before the deadline of 12 noon on Monday 2 November 2026, how do we state the route, and can we change it?

A family whose child may need a Child Student visa or a parent’s dependant visa should put the question to the admissions office in writing before registering, and keep the reply. Tuition can be one to one, and families outside the UK can take the whole programme online.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can my son sit the King’s College School Wimbledon entrance tests from our home country?

“Overseas candidates will be required to travel to King’s to sit our entry tests.” That sentence is on King’s 11+ page, for entry in September 2027, and on its 13+ page, for entry in September 2029. Both routes sit the papers on Saturday 5 December 2026 (morning), and registration for both closes at 12 noon on Monday 2 November 2026. The interview for an overseas candidate is held at King’s the day before the tests.

When and where is the King’s College School Wimbledon interview for an overseas candidate?

King’s says: “In order to avoid unnecessary travel, overseas candidates will be interviewed at King's the day prior to the written tests.” Counting back from Saturday 5 December 2026 gives Friday 4 December 2026, which is our arithmetic from the school’s wording. Ask admissions at admissions@kcs.org.uk for the time, the building and the length of the interview, and keep the reply.

Does King’s College School Wimbledon sponsor a Child Student visa for a boy living abroad?

The 11+ page and the 13+ page both say: “The school does not sponsor pupils under the Child Student Visa Scheme.” They also say “All pupils at King’s must have the right to be resident and study in the United Kingdom.” and the Admissions Policy, reviewed in August 2026, repeats both in section 3.2. Put your family’s position to admissions in writing before registration closes at 12 noon on Monday 2 November 2026.

What time does the King’s registration deadline fall in Dubai or Hong Kong?

King’s gives Monday 2nd November 2026 at 12 noon. If this is UK time, the UK is on GMT after the clocks go back on 25 October 2026, so the deadline is 16:00 in the UAE and Oman (UTC+4), 15:00 in Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia (UTC+3), and 20:00 in Hong Kong and Singapore (UTC+8), all on 2 November 2026. The same sums apply to Wednesday 3rd March 2027 at 12 noon, the deadline for accepting offers.

Which King’s College School Wimbledon entry year does my son’s date of birth point to?

A boy born between 1st Sept 2015 and 31st Aug 2016 is on the 11+ table for September 2027 entry and, on the 13+ page, on the table for September 2029 entry; both routes share the 2 November 2026 deadline and the 5 December 2026 tests. A boy born between 1st Sept 2016 and 31st Aug 2017 is on the 11+ table for September 2028, with registration opening in May 2027. If his school year starts at a different time of year, send his date of birth and school year to admissions in writing.

Can a boy whose first language is not English have extra time at the King’s tests?

The Entrance Exam Concessions Policy says “An allowance of 25% extra time as well as the bilingual translation dictionary will be given, only in applicable exams, and if all of the following conditions are met”. One condition reads “The candidate entered the UK within three years of the date of the examination with no prior knowledge of the English language”. The same section says “The bilingual translation dictionary may not be used in English examinations, Verbal Reasoning paper (11+ and 13+)…”. Whether a boy living abroad can meet the conditions is a question for admissions.

Can a Year 8 boy abroad still apply for 13+ entry in September 2027?

The 13+ page gives “registration has closed” for boys born between 1 September 2013 and 31 August 2014, and says “Registration for our year 8 assessment for 13+ entry in September 2027 has now closed.” The written assessment was scheduled at King’s for 24 September 2026, and results are emailed to parents by 16 October 2026. A family in that position should put its case to admissions in writing.
