Langley Grammar School's Determined Admission Arrangements set the Year 7 Planned Admission Number (PAN) at 180 places for both September 2026 and September 2027 entry. Places are not allocated purely by test score. Instead, the school works through eight priority categories in strict order, filling as many places as possible from each before moving to the next: children with an Education, Health and Care Plan naming the school (automatic admission); looked-after and previously looked-after children; up to 120 places for Priority Area 1 residents (up to 100 in the 2026-27 arrangements), with Pupil Premium-eligible applicants prioritised first and the remainder filled by examination rank order; Priority Area 2 applicants who are Pupil Premium-eligible; children of permanent staff employed continuously for at least 2 years before the closing date for applications, or recruited to fill a post with a demonstrable skill shortage; remaining Priority Area 2 applicants by examination rank order; Priority Area 3 applicants (Pupil Premium first, then rank); and, finally, any places remaining after those categories are allocated, allocated strictly by examination rank order to applicants outside all three Priority Areas.

The school also runs a separate Sixth Form (Year 12) intake: the intended number of students starting Year 12 in September 2027 is a minimum of 185, and the planned admission number for applicants from outside the school is a minimum of 20. For Year 7, if two or more eligible applicants are tied for the final place or places, the place goes to the applicant whose permanent home address is nearest to the school; if applicants are still tied, the Governors will exercise their discretion to admit above the Planned Admission Number.

What Format Is the Langley Grammar School 11+ Exam?

The 11+ entrance examination that determines eligibility for Langley Grammar School is set and administered by the Slough Consortium of Grammar Schools — four state grammar schools serving Slough: Herschel Grammar School, Langley Grammar School, St Bernard's Catholic Grammar School and Upton Court Grammar School. Every child registering for consideration at Langley sits the same single examination: a child sits just one 11+ examination however many Slough Consortium grammar schools parents apply to, so families do not sit separate tests for each school.

The test is provided by GL Assessment, which also marks and standardises it, and consists of two separate papers, each of approximately 60-65 minutes, sat on the same day. How Does Langley Grammar School's Priority Area System Work?

Langley Grammar School's own Determined Admission Arrangements use three Priority Areas defined by postcode, not a distance radius: Priority Area 1 covers SL3 7, SL3 8, SL3 9 and SL3 0, and the Priority Area 2 and Priority Area 3 postcode lists are set out in the same arrangements. Where applicants are tied for the final place, distance is measured by a computerised mapping system from the address point of the child's home to the address point of the school, without taking account of the route a child would travel.

After EHCP places and looked-after children, Priority Area 1 is filled next: up to 120 of the school's 180 places (up to 100 in the 2026-27 arrangements) go to Priority Area 1 residents, with Pupil Premium-eligible applicants admitted first and the remainder filled strictly by examination rank order. Once the Priority Area 1 places are allocated, the school moves to Priority Area 2 — again Pupil Premium applicants first, then children of qualifying staff, then remaining Priority Area 2 applicants by rank — followed by Priority Area 3 on the same Pupil-Premium-then-rank basis. Any places still remaining after eligible applicants in all three Priority Areas have been considered go to applicants living outside them, strictly by examination rank order. In practice this means a family's chances depend heavily on which Priority Area their home address falls into, not simply whether they clear the 111 qualifying score: the school's admissions document advises that applicants living outside the three Priority Areas have no realistic chance of being offered a place.

What Are the Key Dates for September 2027 Entry at Langley Grammar School?

For children applying for a Year 7 place starting September 2027 (born between 1 September 2015 and 31 August 2016), the Slough Consortium's timetable runs across roughly ten months from registration to National Offer Day. The preceding cycle, for September 2026 entry, ran the same shape of calendar a year earlier, giving families a reliable template for what to expect.

The Common Application Form goes to the local authority where the child permanently lives (Slough Borough Council for Slough residents), even when the family lists schools in other areas, rather than directly to Langley Grammar School, and it is where families set out their schools in order of preference.
