DfE's provisional summer 2026 separate GCSE Chemistry grade counts for the five Islington schools with 30 or more entries.
Book a Free ConsultationLeading Tuition's GCSE Chemistry tutors are expert one-to-one online teachers who start from each pupil's own school, because DfE's provisional summer 2026 data counts 301 separate GCSE (9-1) Chemistry entries at the five Islington schools with 30 or more, and the share at grade 4 or above is 54% at Arts and Media School Islington (119 entries) and 100% at each of the other four.
Islington means the London borough, DfE's local authority 206.
Our expert GCSE Chemistry tutors help pupils across Islington prepare for the separate Chemistry GCSE, building each programme around a pupil's own school, exam board and latest mock paper.

Five of them have 30 or more entries: Arts and Media School Islington with 119, St Mary Magdalene Academy with 75, Elizabeth Garrett Anderson School with 45, and Highbury Fields School and North Bridge House Senior Canonbury School with 31 each. Together that is 301 entries. The other five schools hold 64 between them, 365 across all ten, and are set out in a later section.
These rows count entries in the GCSE (9-1) Chemistry qualification. A pupil who takes a Combined Science qualification is entered for a different qualification and is not counted in them. The release is DfE's key stage 4 performance release for 2025/26, which DfE labels provisional, published on 15 October 2026 and last updated on 28 October 2026.
The second column below sets each school's Chemistry entries beside its cohort, which DfE records as the number of pupils at the end of key stage 4. The last column divides the first by the second. It is a count ratio and nothing more: it records how the two counts relate and gives no verdict on any school.
| School | Chemistry entries, summer 2026 | Pupils at end of KS4 | Entries divided by pupils | Establishment type (GIAS) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Arts and Media School Islington | 119 | 144 | 83% | Foundation school |
| St Mary Magdalene Academy | 75 | 191 | 39% | Academy sponsor led |
| Elizabeth Garrett Anderson School | 45 | 174 | 26% | Community school |
| Highbury Fields School | 31 | 138 | 22% | Community school |
| North Bridge House Senior Canonbury School | 31 | 45 | 69% | Other independent school |
Get Information About Schools records the admissions policy of all five schools as non-selective. Its establishment types are as shown in the last column.
The table gives DfE's own grade counts for each school. DfE leaves a cell blank where a school has no entries at that grade; for these five schools the grade counts plus the X column add up exactly to the school's total entries, so the blanks are shown here as 0. X is DfE's marker for an entry with no result.
| School | 9 | 8 | 7 | 6 | 5 | 4 | 3 | 2 | 1 | X | Total |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Arts and Media School Islington | 3 | 5 | 2 | 9 | 28 | 17 | 23 | 20 | 9 | 3 | 119 |
| St Mary Magdalene Academy | 23 | 27 | 9 | 7 | 9 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 75 |
| Elizabeth Garrett Anderson School | 6 | 9 | 9 | 13 | 5 | 3 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 45 |
| Highbury Fields School | 6 | 8 | 7 | 5 | 5 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 31 |
| North Bridge House Senior Canonbury School | 7 | 4 | 10 | 6 | 3 | 1 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 31 |
The next table adds those grade rows up. Grade 4 or above, grade 5 or above and grade 7 or above are this page's own sums of DfE's grade rows, each divided by the school's total Chemistry entries.
| School | Total entries | Grade 4 or above | Grade 5 or above | Grade 7 or above |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Arts and Media School Islington | 119 | 64 (54%) | 47 (39%) | 10 (8%) |
| St Mary Magdalene Academy | 75 | 75 (100%) | 75 (100%) | 59 (79%) |
| Elizabeth Garrett Anderson School | 45 | 45 (100%) | 42 (93%) | 24 (53%) |
| Highbury Fields School | 31 | 31 (100%) | 31 (100%) | 21 (68%) |
| North Bridge House Senior Canonbury School | 31 | 31 (100%) | 30 (97%) | 21 (68%) |
Arts and Media School Islington's 119 entries run across the whole scale: 9 at grade 1, 20 at grade 2 and 23 at grade 3 (52 at grades 1 to 3 together), 17 at grade 4, 28 at grade 5, and 3 at grade 9, with 3 recorded as X. Its 4-and-above share of 54% is the only one of the five below 100%.
At Elizabeth Garrett Anderson School, 3 of 45 entries are at grade 4 and 5 at grade 5, with 24 at grade 7 or above. Highbury Fields School's 31 entries start at grade 5 (5), and 21 are at grade 7 or above. North Bridge House Senior Canonbury School has 1 entry at grade 4, and 21 of its 31 at grade 7 or above. St Mary Magdalene Academy's 75 entries start at grade 5 (9) and 23 are at grade 9, the largest count at that grade among the five.
Added together, the five schools' 301 entries hold 45 at grade 9, 53 at grade 8 and 37 at grade 7, so 135 at grade 7 or above (45%); 246 are at grade 4 or above (82%) and 52 at grades 1 to 3, with 3 recorded as X. That pooled row covers these five schools only and is not an Islington total.
To read the tables for a particular school, start with the entries and cohort columns, because they show how large the Chemistry group is within the year. Then read across that school's grade row. The 4-and-above, 5-and-above and 7-and-above sums only collect the same counts into three cut-offs.
Our expert GCSE Chemistry tutors help pupils across Islington with both papers, working one-to-one online from the pupil's own mock results and the topics each paper assesses.
Book a Free Consultation Message us on WhatsAppA school's row describes a year group. The pupil in front of a tutor holds one grade on one mock paper, and that grade is where a programme starts. Arts and Media School Islington's row holds 52 entries at grades 1 to 3 and 64 at grade 4 or above; St Mary Magdalene Academy's holds 59 of 75 entries at grade 7 or above. Either row sets the context for a pupil's school, and neither says which of those entries is the pupil's own.
The ratio column adds a second piece of context. At North Bridge House Senior Canonbury School 31 Chemistry entries sit beside a cohort of 45; at Highbury Fields School 31 entries sit beside 138. Because the ratios differ, a tutor asks first which qualification the pupil is entered for and which board's papers the school sets, and works from the school's own scheme of work and the pupil's latest mock paper.
AQA's GCSE Chemistry (8462) specification sets two written papers, each of 1 hour 45 minutes, 100 marks and 50% of the GCSE, with Foundation and Higher Tier entry. Paper 1 assesses topics 1 to 5: atomic structure and the periodic table; bonding, structure and the properties of matter; quantitative chemistry; chemical changes; and energy changes. Paper 2 assesses topics 6 to 10: the rate and extent of chemical change; organic chemistry; chemical analysis; the chemistry of the atmosphere; and using resources.
That is AQA's own specification only. A pupil's school may enter a different board's specification, so the first step in every programme is to confirm the board and tier from the pupil's own papers. Our GCSE Chemistry tuition page covers the boards and tiers in full, and the London GCSE Chemistry tutors page covers the wider city.
My son was low in confidence after COVID and the gaps in learning were building up. Using this service helped plug those gaps, rebuild confidence, and improve his ability to learn properly again.
We arranged maths and English tuition ahead of GCSEs and both tutors were brilliant. My daughter's grades improved, and by results day she achieved two grades higher than in her mock exams.
I attended an English bootcamp with Leading Tuition and the experience was excellent. The teacher gave focused attention to the small group while keeping the lessons interactive and engaging.
Sessions are one-to-one online with a shared whiteboard, so a pupil joins from home. A programme begins with a short diagnostic against the pupil's own school and exam board, then works through that pupil's past papers and marks them against the real mark scheme. Progress is reviewed against the pupil's own target grade at agreed intervals, and session notes go to parents after each lesson.

Our expert GCSE Chemistry tutors help pupils across Islington at the grade the pupil holds on their own latest mock paper, one-to-one online with past papers marked against the real mark scheme.
Book a Free Consultation Message us on WhatsAppA first call covers four things: the pupil's school, the board and tier named on their latest mock paper, the grade that paper earned, and which of the two papers, Paper 1 on topics 1 to 5 or Paper 2 on topics 6 to 10, cost the pupil the most marks. The programme is then built from those answers, and the school's row in the tables above stays as background context.
DfE's table lists five further Islington schools with fewer than 30 separate GCSE Chemistry entries in summer 2026. This page reads grade rows only for the five schools with 30 or more entries. DfE's counts for the others are below.
| School | Chemistry entries, summer 2026 | Pupils at end of KS4 |
|---|---|---|
| Central Foundation Boys' School | 25 | 167 |
| St Aloysius' College | 16 | 57 |
| City of London Academy Highbury Grove | 15 | 162 |
| Beacon High | 6 | 76 |
| City of London Academy, Highgate Hill | 2 | 133 |
DfE's table shows no grade breakdown for the 2 entries at City of London Academy, Highgate Hill; the other four rows carry one.
Those five add up to 64 entries, which with the 301 in the first five makes 365 entries across the ten schools.
DfE labels the release provisional, so a school's counts can differ in a later version. Each figure on this page is a count of entries in one qualification in one summer, not a count of pupils and not a measure of how much a school added to a pupil's grade.
The entry counts and the cohort counts come from the same DfE rows, but they count different things: an entry is one pupil's entry in the qualification, and the cohort is every pupil at the end of key stage 4 at the school, whichever subjects they sit. That is why the tables give the two side by side and never treat entries as a headcount of the year.
No Progress 8 exists for these pupils: DfE will not publish progress measures for 2024/25 or 2025/26 because the pupils had no Key Stage 2 assessments. Nothing here measures how much a school added to a pupil's grade.
A pupil's own mock paper, in the board's own format, is a better guide to the first lesson than any school row. The five rows above supply the local context: which schools put 30 or more pupils through the separate Chemistry GCSE in summer 2026, and how those entries fell across grades 1 to 9.
No. DfE's rows for GCSE (9-1) Chemistry count entries in that one qualification. A pupil taking a Combined Science qualification is entered for a different qualification and does not appear. In summer 2026 the table lists 10 Islington schools and 365 Chemistry entries in all, 301 of them at the five schools with 30 or more entries.
Arts and Media School Islington had 119, St Mary Magdalene Academy 75, Elizabeth Garrett Anderson School 45, and Highbury Fields School and North Bridge House Senior Canonbury School 31 each. These are entries, not pupils. DfE's cohort counts, 144, 191, 174, 138 and 45 pupils at the end of key stage 4, show how many pupils each school had in the year.
No. DfE labels the 2025/26 key stage 4 release provisional. It was published on 15 October 2026 and last updated on 28 October 2026. A school's counts can differ in a later version, so this page states every figure as DfE's provisional summer 2026 count and not as a settled result.
They are this page's own sums of DfE's grade rows. At Arts and Media School Islington, grades 4 to 9 add up to 64 of 119 entries, which is 54%, and grades 7 to 9 add up to 10. At St Mary Magdalene Academy, grades 7 to 9 add up to 59 of 75 entries. These are this page's own sums of DfE's grade rows.
That depends on the school, and DfE's table does not record it. AQA's GCSE Chemistry (8462) has two written papers of 1 hour 45 minutes, 100 marks each, with Paper 1 on topics 1 to 5 and Paper 2 on topics 6 to 10. Another board may differ, so our tutors confirm the board and tier from your child's papers first.
It is one-to-one and online, with a shared whiteboard, so a pupil joins from home in any part of Islington. A programme starts with a short diagnostic against the pupil's own school and exam board, then works through past papers marked against the real mark scheme, with session notes sent to parents after each lesson.
It divides a school's Chemistry entries by its pupils at the end of key stage 4, as two counts. At Arts and Media School Islington that is 119 of 144, or 83%; at Elizabeth Garrett Anderson School 45 of 174, or 26%; at Highbury Fields School 31 of 138, or 22%. It carries no verdict on any school.
