Six Leicester sixth forms recorded a 2024/25 A-level Further Maths cohort, naming three different exam boards and, between them, three different sets of optional papers.
Book a Free ConsultationA-level Further Maths tutors in Leicester work across six sixth forms and colleges that DfE recorded with a 2024/25 Further Maths cohort, out of eleven Leicester institutions in the department's value-added dataset. Beauchamp City Sixth Form and Leicester High School for Girls teach AQA, The City of Leicester College teaches Edexcel, St Paul's Catholic School teaches OCR, and WQE and Regent College Group, whose 24 matched students is the second-highest published count, names no board at all.
A-level Further Maths tutoring built around your child's own sixth form
Our expert A-level Further Maths tutors help students across Leicester at whichever of the city's six providers they attend, working from that department's actual board and optional units rather than a generic course outline.
Book a Free Consultation Message us on WhatsAppLeading Tuition's Leicester A-level Maths page already publishes the entry-count table for these same six providers, and the two large colleges that record no Further Maths students at all. What follows is what that table cannot show: which board each department has chosen, which optional papers or applications it actually sets, and where the routes into Further Maths themselves diverge.
A-level Further Mathematics is one specification in name, but a Leicester student's actual course depends on which sixth form or college they attend. Every board that offers the A-level requires a choice of optional papers on top of a compulsory core, and how each Leicester department has made that choice is public, checkable, and different in every case where it is published at all.
Leicester High School for Girls teaches AQA's specification, code 7367, confirmed on the school's own A-level Further Maths page and matched against AQA's own specification listing for the same code. Its published optional structure requires students to choose two of three optional applications: mechanics, statistics and discrete mathematics.
The City of Leicester College teaches Edexcel. Its course information sheet sets out four exams of one hour thirty minutes each, sat at the end of the second year: two cover the compulsory core pure content, and the remaining two are chosen from eight named units across four pairs - Further Pure 1 and 2, Further Statistics 1 and 2, Further Mechanics 1 and 2, and Decision 1 and 2.
St Paul's Catholic School names OCR as its board and publishes three optional papers by name: a mechanics minor, a statistics minor and a modelling-with-algorithms minor. Those three names, including the word "minor" and the modelling-with-algorithms title, are the option names OCR uses in its Further Mathematics B (MEI) specification rather than its Further Mathematics A specification, which has no "minor" options and no modelling-with-algorithms paper. St Paul's own page does not state which of OCR's two Further Maths specifications it enters, so the match is a naming pattern, not a confirmed code.
Beauchamp City Sixth Form also teaches AQA, in its own words, but publishes six content areas - matrices, complex numbers, proof, polar coordinates, hyperbolic functions and differential equations - with no optional application named at all. Beauchamp's KS5 prospectus, a 32-page PDF, carries no text layer at all: it is a set of scanned images, and no software can extract which optional application, if any, the prospectus states. Where a school publishes only a scan, the honest answer is that the figure cannot be read, not that it can be guessed from a neighbouring school's choice.
How each board actually structures its own optional papers, and why the choice exists at all, is explained in full on Leading Tuition's national A-level Further Maths guide; what is Leicester-specific is which of those structures each local department has actually picked.
Eleven Leicester institutions carry a location record in the Department for Education's institution-level subject value-added dataset for 2024/25, matched here on URN rather than name - a precaution that matters because the same dataset carries duplicate and near-duplicate school names elsewhere in the country. Six of those eleven, 54.5 per cent, recorded a 2024/25 A-level Further Maths row.
Four of the six name an exam board on their own website. Beauchamp City Sixth Form states it plainly: "the A Level exam board we use is AQA." Leicester High School for Girls goes further and names the specification code, AQA 7367, which AQA's own specification page confirms as its current A-level Further Mathematics listing. The City of Leicester College's course information PDF states "Further Mathematics Edexcel A-Level" in as many words. St Paul's Catholic School's course page states "Assessment Board: OCR" - a board, not a specification code, and the section above sets out why the code cannot be confirmed from the school's own material.
Between them, the four name three distinct boards - AQA, Edexcel and OCR - and two of the four name AQA.
The remaining two of the six name no board for Further Maths at all. WQE and Regent College Group's Further Maths course page contains none of the strings AQA, Edexcel, Pearson, MEI, Eduqas or WJEC anywhere in its rendered text; a second page on the same site, its exams and assessments page, links grade-boundary pages for AQA, Edexcel, OCR and WJEC without stating which of them sets which subject. English Martyrs' Catholic School's sixth-form course information page lists twenty-two courses, including plain Mathematics, and Further Mathematics is not among them; its separate maths curriculum page names Edexcel as the board for the Mathematics it does teach, and the word "Further" does not appear on that page at all.

Our expert A-level Further Maths tutors help students across Leicester with whichever board their sixth form has chosen - AQA's applications, Edexcel's four-paper structure or OCR's minor options - building every programme around the student's own department rather than a generic specification.
Book a Free Consultation Message us on WhatsAppWQE and Regent College Group's own Further Maths course page sets out a route no other Leicester provider in this dataset publishes in the same terms. Students sit A-level Mathematics first: three exams of two hours each, at the end of Year 1, each worth a third of the final grade.
Only those who achieve at least a grade B in that A-level Mathematics result go on to A-level Further Mathematics, assessed at the end of Year 2 by four exams of an hour and a half each, worth a quarter of the final grade apiece. The college's published pure content for Further Maths lists nine named topics - proof, complex numbers, matrices, further algebra and functions, further calculus, further vectors, polar coordinates, hyperbolic functions and differential equations - plus further topics from Statistics and Mechanics.
Of the Leicester departments whose published material states when exams are sat, the other two are both single-stage: Beauchamp City Sixth Form examines Further Maths "as a linear exam at the end of year 13", and The City of Leicester College assesses its four papers "at the end of your 2nd year". Neither publishes an early sitting or a grade gate of the kind WQE and Regent sets out.
The course page that sets out WQE and Regent's two-stage, grade-gated route names no exam board for either A-level Mathematics or A-level Further Mathematics. The college's separate exams and assessments page links grade-boundary pages for four boards - AQA, Edexcel, OCR and WJEC - without attributing any one of them to a subject, so which board actually sets the college's own papers is not stated anywhere on its site.

We arranged maths and English tuition ahead of GCSEs and both tutors were brilliant. My daughter's grades improved, and by results day she achieved two grades higher than in her mock exams.
I attended an English bootcamp with Leading Tuition and the experience was excellent. The teacher gave focused attention to the small group while keeping the lessons interactive and engaging.

Book a Free Consultation Message us on WhatsAppValue added is the Department for Education's measure of a cohort's exam results against its own members' prior attainment; it is a progress statistic for the students recorded in 2024/25, and it is not a measure of a department's teaching. It is a finding only where its 95% confidence interval sits entirely above or entirely below zero - a difference between two estimates is not, on its own, a finding, and DfE's own published rules mean the measure says nothing at all where too few students are matched to publish a value.
Of Leicester's six 2024/25 Further Maths value-added rows, two clear zero, three are suppressed outright, and one spans zero. Beauchamp City Sixth Form's score is 0.79, with a 95% interval of 0.35 to 1.23 across 27 matched students - an interval that lies entirely above zero, on DfE's 2024/25 progress measure, and not a verdict on the department's teaching.
Three rows are suppressed: DfE publishes no value, no interval and no entry count for Leicester High School for Girls, English Martyrs' Catholic School or St Paul's Catholic School. The City of Leicester College's score is 0.37, with an interval of -0.56 to 1.31 across 6 matched students; the interval spans zero, so on its own the figure is not a finding in either direction.
WQE and Regent College Group's score is -0.5, with a 95% interval of -0.97 to -0.03 across 24 matched students - an interval that lies entirely below zero, on the same 2024/25 progress measure, and equally not a verdict on the department's teaching. Its upper bound sits at -0.03, three-hundredths short of zero.
| Institution | Matched students, 2024/25 | Value added | 95% interval | Clears zero? |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Beauchamp City Sixth Form | 27 | 0.79 | 0.35 to 1.23 | Above zero |
| WQE and Regent College Group | 24 | -0.5 | -0.97 to -0.03 | Below zero |
| The City of Leicester College | 6 | 0.37 | -0.56 to 1.31 | Spans zero - not a finding |

Sorted by DfE's published matched-student count, then by the three suppressed rows in alphabetical order - never by the value-added score itself. The gap between the two published intervals says more about cohort size than about either department. The City of Leicester College's interval runs 1.87 wide, from -0.56 to 1.31, against Beauchamp City's 0.88, from 0.35 to 1.23 - 2.1 times as wide. A six-student cohort produces a much wider band on this measure than a twenty-seven-student one; that is a property of the statistic, not a comment on either college.
Across the six rows, only two say anything about direction at all, and even those two describe a single year's matched cohort against its own prior attainment, not a comparison between departments, their boards, or the optional units set out above.
A Leicester Further Maths student's tuition needs follow directly from where they study. A Leicester High School for Girls student is working through AQA 7367 and choosing between mechanics, statistics and discrete mathematics. A City of Leicester College student is preparing Edexcel's four papers and an optional pair from eight named units. A St Paul's Catholic School student is most likely on OCR's Further Mathematics B (MEI) minor options, even though the school's own page does not confirm the code. A WQE and Regent College Group student is compressing A-level Mathematics into a single year before a grade-B gate decides whether Further Maths follows at all.
Our expert A-level Further Maths tutors help students across Leicester with whichever of these routes their own sixth form has actually set, building each programme around the student's real board, optional units and timetable rather than a specification sheet that may not match what their school teaches. Where a school's own material is silent - WQE and Regent's board, or the specific OCR code St Paul's enters - our tutors work from the student's own papers and past assessments rather than guessing at a specification.

Four of the six Leicester providers with a 2024/25 Further Maths cohort name an exam board, and between them they use three different boards. Beauchamp City Sixth Form and Leicester High School for Girls both teach AQA, with Leicester High naming the specification code, AQA 7367. The City of Leicester College teaches Edexcel, stated on its own course information sheet. St Paul's Catholic School names only "OCR" without a specification code. WQE and Regent College Group and English Martyrs' Catholic School name no board for Further Maths at all.
The City of Leicester College's Edexcel A-level Further Maths is assessed by four exams of one hour thirty minutes each, sat at the end of the second year. Two papers cover the compulsory core pure content. The remaining two are optional, chosen from eight named units across four pairs: Further Pure 1 and 2, Further Statistics 1 and 2, Further Mechanics 1 and 2, and Decision 1 and 2. The college's own course information PDF sets out this structure in full, and does not state which pair its current cohort has chosen.
WQE and Regent College Group's own course page sets out a two-stage route: students sit A-level Mathematics exams, three two-hour papers each worth a third of the grade, at the end of Year 1. Only those who achieve at least a grade B then continue to A-level Further Mathematics, assessed at the end of Year 2 by four exams of an hour and a half, each worth a quarter of the grade. No other Leicester provider in this dataset publishes a route that separates the two A-levels by a full year and a grade gate.
St Paul's Catholic School names only "OCR" as its Further Maths board, not a specification code. Its published optional papers - a mechanics minor, a statistics minor and a modelling-with-algorithms minor - use the exact option names of OCR's Further Mathematics B (MEI) specification, where they carry the codes Y431, Y432 and Y433. OCR's other Further Maths specification, Further Mathematics A, has no "minor" options and no modelling-with-algorithms paper at all. The naming match points to MEI, but the school's own page does not confirm it.
No. Of Leicester's six 2024/25 Further Maths value-added rows, three are suppressed outright and a fourth spans zero, so only two say anything at all: Beauchamp City Sixth Form's interval sits entirely above zero and WQE and Regent College Group's sits entirely below it. Value added measures a cohort's exam results against its members' own prior attainment; it is not a measure of teaching quality, and DfE publishes it as a progress statistic, not a ranking. This page does not rank Further Maths departments and neither does DfE.
Five of the eleven Leicester institutions in DfE's subject value-added dataset carry no 2024/25 Further Maths row: Darul Uloom Leicester, Gateway Sixth Form College, Leicester College and The Imam Muhammad Adam Institute School, matched here on URN rather than name. Gateway's own published maths course list confirms the absence directly - it names four courses, Maths GCSE Fast Track, Maths GCSE Foundation, Core Maths Level 3/AS Level and Maths A Level, and none of them is Further Maths. The full entry-count picture across all Leicester providers sits on Leading Tuition's Leicester A-level Maths page.
Leicester High School for Girls publishes AQA 7367 as its Further Maths specification and requires students to choose two of three optional applications: mechanics, statistics and discrete mathematics. That is a narrower menu than The City of Leicester College's four-pair, eight-unit Edexcel structure, and a different one from St Paul's Catholic School's three OCR minor options. AQA's own specification page confirms 7367 as the current A-level Further Mathematics code.
