DfE's provisional summer 2026 GCSE maths grades for the 15 Sutton schools with 100 or more entries, and the target grade each result sets.
Book a Free ConsultationLeading Tuition's GCSE maths tutors in Sutton are expert one-to-one online teachers who set each pupil's target from their own school's results: DfE's provisional summer 2026 data shows grade 4 or above running from 59% at Oaks Park (233 entries) to 94% at Glenthorne (284) across ten Sutton schools, and grade 7 or above from 12% to 49%.
Sutton means the London Borough, DfE's local authority 319. Five further schools reached grade 4 or above on every entry, so no borough average describes them. Their grade 8 and 9 counts differ; at Oaks Park (59% at grade 4 or above) the grade 4 line is in play.

DfE's table lists 21 Sutton schools. Fifteen of them have 100 or more entries, and those fifteen are compared here. Every figure below is a share of a school's exam entries, not of its pupils, and the whole release is marked provisional by DfE, which published it on 15 October 2026.
Ten of the fifteen schools had some entries below grade 4. The table lists them from the lowest grade 4 share to the highest, with the number of entries beside each school so that the share can be read against its cohort size.
| School | Entries | Grade 4 or above | Grade 5 or above | Grade 7 or above |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Oaks Park High School | 233 | 59% | 33% | 12% |
| Overton Grange School | 197 | 73% | 52% | 24% |
| Carshalton High School for Girls | 234 | 77% | 61% | 31% |
| Carshalton Boys Sports College | 235 | 79% | 60% | 26% |
| Cheam High School | 313 | 82% | 68% | 39% |
| St Philomena's Catholic High School for Girls | 229 | 83% | 59% | 27% |
| Greenshaw High School | 312 | 84% | 73% | 42% |
| Harris Academy Sutton | 210 | 86% | 78% | 49% |
| The John Fisher School | 186 | 88% | 73% | 28% |
| Glenthorne High School | 284 | 94% | 85% | 49% |
Read down the second column of percentages and the spread is wide: 94% at Glenthorne High School against 59% at Oaks Park High School, a gap of 35 percentage points on the grade 4 line. On the grade 7 line the same ten schools run from 12% at Oaks Park High School to 49% at both Glenthorne High School and Harris Academy Sutton. Two schools can share a grade 7 share while sitting 8 points apart at grade 4, because Glenthorne High School's grade 4 share is 94% and Harris Academy Sutton's is 86%. A single borough number cannot tell those children apart.
The five schools left out of that table have a different shape of result, covered in the section on grades 8 and 9 below. Six more schools appear in DfE's table with 14 entries or fewer, and they are described only by that DfE entry count.
The first four rows of the table are the schools where the grade 4 line is the live question for a large share of the cohort. At Oaks Park High School, 138 of 233 entries were graded 4 or above, so 90 entries were graded 1 to 3, and 60 entries sat at exactly grade 4, more than at any other grade. At Overton Grange School, 143 of 197 entries reached grade 4, with 51 graded 1 to 3 and 40 at exactly grade 4.
At Carshalton Boys Sports College the grade 4 share was 79% of 235 entries, with 45 graded 1 to 3, and at Carshalton High School for Girls it was 77% of 234, with 50 graded 1 to 3. At all four schools the largest single group of entries was graded 4 or 5, which is the band where a few extra marks on each paper change a pupil's result.
A secure 4 matters for a second reason. AQA's GCSE Mathematics 8300 specification sets GCSE Mathematics in two tiers: Foundation tier carries grades 1 to 5 and Higher tier carries grades 4 to 9, and a pupil must sit all three papers at the same tier. Grade 4 is the only grade both tiers can award, so a pupil at a school where the grade 4 share is 59%, or 73%, is often weighing a tier decision at the same time as a target. A tutor working one to one can settle that by setting the pupil's own past papers at each tier and reading the marks, rather than by guessing from the school's average.
There is also a second chance built into the exam system. AQA's scheme of assessment says GCSE exams are available every May/June and November, and that November entries are open to students who were at least 16 on the previous 31 August. A pupil who finishes Year 11 below a 4 in a school like the four above is therefore a resit candidate, and the plan for that is a different one from the plan for a first sitting; our guide to the GCSE maths resit in Year 12 and our GCSE resit tuition page cover it.

Book a Free Consultation Message us on WhatsAppSix schools in the table hold a grade 4 share between 82% and 94%, which can make them look alike. Their grade 7 shares do not: they run from 27% at St Philomena's Catholic High School for Girls to 49% at both Glenthorne High School and Harris Academy Sutton. For a pupil at one of these schools the grade 4 line is already behind most entries, so the open question is the step to a 5 or 6 and then to a 7.
The John Fisher School is the clearest case. It had 186 entries, 88% at grade 4 or above and 28% at grade 7 or above. St Philomena's Catholic High School for Girls is similar: 83% at grade 4 or above and 27% at grade 7 or above across 229 entries. At those two schools the gap between the grade 4 share and the grade 7 share is 60 and 56 percentage points, so for a pupil there the work is the step from 4 to 6 and then from 6 to 7.
Glenthorne High School and Harris Academy Sutton sit at the other end of this band, each with 49% of entries at grade 7 or above. Glenthorne High School had 284 entries, 94% at grade 4 or above and 85% at grade 5 or above; Harris Academy Sutton had 210 entries, 86% at grade 4 or above and 78% at grade 5 or above. At Glenthorne High School, 139 entries reached grade 7 or above, and at Harris Academy Sutton, 102 of 210 did. For a pupil at either school a 7 is within the school's own pattern, and the question becomes whether the pupil is on the right side of that line.
Cheam High School (313 entries; 82% at grade 4 or above, 68% at grade 5 or above, 39% at grade 7 or above) and Greenshaw High School (312 entries; 84%, 73% and 42%) fall between the two groups. Grade 7 and above needs the Higher tier, because Foundation tier stops at grade 5 on AQA's specification, so a tutor should be reading Higher tier papers with these pupils.

We arranged maths and English tuition ahead of GCSEs and both tutors were brilliant. My daughter's grades improved, and by results day she achieved two grades higher than in her mock exams.
I attended an English bootcamp with Leading Tuition and the experience was excellent. The teacher gave focused attention to the small group while keeping the lessons interactive and engaging.
Five Sutton schools reached grade 4 or above on every one of their summer 2026 GCSE maths entries: Nonsuch High School for Girls, Sutton Grammar School, Wallington County Grammar School, Wallington High School for Girls and Wilson's School. The DfE's Get Information About Schools register, which is the department's own record of every school in England, lists the admissions policy of Nonsuch High School for Girls, Sutton Grammar School, Wallington County Grammar School, Wallington High School for Girls and Wilson's School as Selective. That is the reason the borough picture splits in two: these schools admit by ability, so a grade 4 is the starting point for their pupils rather than the finish line.
| School | Entries | Grade 4 or above | Grade 7 or above | Grade 9 entries |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Wilson's School | 193 | 100% | 100% | 173 |
| Sutton Grammar School | 134 | 100% | 99% | 91 |
| Nonsuch High School for Girls | 204 | 100% | 97% | 124 |
| Wallington County Grammar School | 149 | 100% | 100% | 81 |
| Wallington High School for Girls | 208 | 100% | 96% | 86 |
Here the target moves up to the top two grades. At Wilson's School, 173 of 193 entries were graded 9, and 193 were graded 7 or above. At Nonsuch High School for Girls, 124 of 204 entries were graded 9; at Sutton Grammar School, 91 of 134; at Wallington High School for Girls, 86 of 208; and at Wallington County Grammar School, 81 of 149. The grade 7 shares are 100%, 97%, 99%, 96% and 100% respectively.
Notice what the grade 9 column does and does not say. At Wilson's School 173 of 193 entries were graded 9, while at Wallington County Grammar School 81 of 149 were. The qualification is 240 marks across three papers, so the difference between a grade 8 and a grade 9 is a matter of marks on the hardest questions rather than of general ability. A tutor for a pupil at one of these schools works on exactly those questions: unfamiliar problems, multi-step reasoning and the demanding final parts of each paper, marked against the real mark scheme.
Our guide to getting grade 9 in GCSE maths covers the method; the sessions themselves are built around the pupil's own marks. If the pupil is also thinking about A level, the same tutors run our maths tutoring at every level.
Leading Tuition's tutors teach every GCSE maths pupil one to one and online, so a pupil in Carshalton, Cheam, Wallington or anywhere else in Sutton works with the same expert teacher from home. Sessions run with a shared whiteboard, working through the pupil's own past papers and marking against the real mark scheme, with session notes shared with parents after each lesson. 91% of our students achieve their desired grades.
The starting point is the pupil's own target, which is the reason this page is built from school results. A pupil aiming at a secure 4 gets a plan built on number, algebra and ratio first, because those topics carry marks on all three papers. A pupil aiming at a 5 or 6 gets Higher tier practice on the multi-step questions that separate the two grades. A pupil aiming at a 7 gets the harder algebra, geometry and proof questions that only appear at the top of the Higher tier. A pupil aiming at an 8 or a 9 gets timed Paper 3 practice and the extended problems at the end of each paper.
Every plan is reviewed against the pupil's mock results and school reports, and the tutor changes the order of topics when the marks say so. The three papers are equal, each worth 80 of the 240 marks, so the plan covers non-calculator technique as well as calculator work. That structure comes from the board's own scheme, which is why we teach to it.
Our expert GCSE maths tutors help students across Sutton with both the Foundation and Higher tier papers, whichever board the school enters. Book a call and you get a one-to-one online GCSE maths tutor, a plan built from your child's own mock marks, and session notes after every lesson.
Book a Free Consultation Message us on WhatsAppThe source is DfE's Key stage 4 institution-level table of subject entries and grades, summer 2026 (2025/26), published on 15 October 2026 as provisional. We queried it for Mathematics, GCSE (9-1) Full Course, in the 21 Sutton schools DfE lists in that table. Fifteen of them have 100 or more entries and are compared on this page. The other six are Carew Academy with 14 entries, Wandle Valley Academy with 9, Brookways School with 8, Greenholm School with 5, Grove Road School with 4 and The Link School with 1. They are named here only with DfE's own entry counts and are not compared. For Greenholm School, Grove Road School and The Link School, DfE's table gives the entry count and no grade breakdown, so no grades can be read for those three.
Three things the table does not claim. It does not rank schools. It does not say how pupils at a school were taught or who entered at which tier. And it carries no all-subject measure: the figures on this page are maths figures only. For a pupil, the useful reading is the school's own row, with the entries beside it, as the starting point for a target, then the pupil's own mock marks for the rest.
Where a school's grade share is shown, it is the number of entries at that grade or above divided by the school's total GCSE maths full-course entries in the table, rounded to a whole percentage. Where a count is shown, it is DfE's own count. Every figure on this page is held with its source in our evidence file.
DfE's provisional summer 2026 table has Oaks Park High School at 59% grade 4 or above across 233 entries, Overton Grange School at 73% across 197, Carshalton High School for Girls at 77% across 234 and Carshalton Boys Sports College at 79% across 235. For pupils at these schools a secure grade 4 is the first target, and our one-to-one online tutors build the plan from the pupil's own past papers.
Every entry at Nonsuch High School for Girls, Sutton Grammar School, Wallington County Grammar School, Wallington High School for Girls and Wilson's School was graded 4 or above in DfE's summer 2026 table. The Get Information About Schools register lists the admissions policy of each of those five schools as Selective. For these five schools the grade 8 and grade 9 counts are the figures that differ: at Wilson's School, 173 of 193 entries were graded 9.
AQA's GCSE Mathematics 8300 specification gives Foundation tier grades 1 to 5 and Higher tier grades 4 to 9, and a pupil sits all three papers at one tier. A target of 6 or above needs Higher tier. In Sutton, 49% of entries at Glenthorne High School and 49% at Harris Academy Sutton were graded 7 or above, so A tutor can read both tiers' papers against your child's marks and settle the choice with evidence.
Yes. Leading Tuition teaches GCSE maths one to one and online, with a shared whiteboard, the pupil's own past papers marked against the real mark scheme and session notes for parents after every lesson. A pupil in Cheam, where DfE lists 313 entries, or in Wallington, works with the same tutor from home. To start, book a free consultation on our website or message us on WhatsApp.
AQA runs GCSE maths exams every May/June and November. November entries are open to students who were at least 16 on the previous 31 August, so a pupil finishing Year 11 below a 4 can resit that November. At Oaks Park, 90 of 233 summer 2026 entries were graded 1 to 3, which is the group a November plan is built for.
Find your child's school in the tables, read the grade 4, grade 5 and grade 7 shares beside the entry count, and treat the nearest line above the child's current mock grade as the target. At Cheam High School, for example, 82% of 313 entries reached grade 4 and 39% reached grade 7, so a pupil on a 5 has a clear step to a 7. The figures are provisional DfE data, published 15 October 2026.
DfE lists 21 Sutton schools in its summer 2026 GCSE maths full-course table. Six have 14 entries or fewer and are not compared: Carew Academy (14), Wandle Valley Academy (9), Brookways School (8), Greenholm School (5), Grove Road School (4) and The Link School (1). The other 15 each have 100 or more entries and appear in the tables above.
