DfE's provisional summer 2026 English Language and English Literature grade counts for Bromley's schools, one subject at a time.
Book a Free ConsultationLeading Tuition's GCSE English tutors in Bromley are expert one-to-one online teachers who work from the pupil's own school and from the weaker of the two English GCSEs, because DfE's provisional summer 2026 results put the grade 4+ share between 39% and 100% in English Language and between 40% and 100% in English Literature across Bromley's schools with 30 or more entries.
Bromley means the London borough, DfE's local authority 305. DfE's GCSE (9-1) full-course table lists 20 Bromley schools with 30 or more English Language entries and 21 with 30 or more English Literature entries. English Language and English Literature are separate GCSEs, so each has its own table and no figure adds them together.
Our expert GCSE English tutors help pupils across Bromley with English Language and English Literature separately, building each programme around a pupil's own school, exam board and the weaker of the two GCSEs.
Book a Free Consultation Message us on WhatsAppThe table lists the 20 Bromley schools with 30 or more entries in DfE's GCSE (9-1) full-course English Language table, published on 15 October 2026 and provisional. Entries are exam entries, not pupils, so DfE's count of pupils at the end of Key Stage 4 sits beside them. Grade 4+ adds the entries at grades 4 to 9, and grade 7+ adds grades 7 to 9. DfE's condition of funding for 16- to 19-year-olds names grade 4 or above in GCSE English and maths as its line, which is why the first share is counted from grade 4.

The last column subtracts the Language share from the Literature share, so a positive figure means Literature is higher, and the shares are worked from the counts in the tables above. Literature is higher at 13 schools, Language is higher at 6, and the two are level at 1. That one is St Olave's and St Saviour's Grammar School, where all 128 entries in each subject are at grade 4+.

These are school totals, not a pupil's own marks. A tutor reads them as a starting reference only: the pupil's latest mock paper in each subject decides which GCSE the first sessions take.
GIAS, the DfE register Get Information about Schools, records an admissions policy of selective or non-selective for 19 of the schools in the two tables. It lists Newstead Wood School, St Olave's and St Saviour's Grammar School and Babington House School as selective. Their Language grade 4+ share runs from 90.0% to 100.0% and their Literature share from 97.4% to 100.0%. It lists the other 16 as non-selective; their Language share runs from 39.1% to 93.8% and their Literature share from 40.2% to 94.3%.

My son was low in confidence after COVID and the gaps in learning were building up. Using this service helped plug those gaps, rebuild confidence, and improve his ability to learn properly again.
We arranged maths and English tuition ahead of GCSEs and both tutors were brilliant. My daughter's grades improved, and by results day she achieved two grades higher than in her mock exams.
I attended an English bootcamp with Leading Tuition and the experience was excellent. The teacher gave focused attention to the small group while keeping the lessons interactive and engaging.
Sessions are one-to-one online with a shared whiteboard. A programme begins with a short diagnostic against the pupil's own school and exam board, run separately for English Language and English Literature, then works through that pupil's past papers and marks them against the real mark scheme. Progress is reviewed against the pupil's own target grade at agreed intervals, and session notes go to parents after each lesson.
Because the two GCSEs are graded separately, a programme can give more of its sessions to whichever subject the pupil's mock results show is lower, and the other keeps its own slot. The GCSE English Language tuition page and the GCSE English Literature tuition page cover each subject by exam board, and the GCSE English overview covers both together. Families in Bromley also read our GCSE maths tutors in Bromley and A-level English tutors in Bromley pages, and the Bromley tutoring hub lists the rest.
Our expert GCSE English Language and English Literature tutors help students across Bromley at every school in these tables, with sessions one-to-one online and a programme built around each pupil's own papers.
Book a Free Consultation Message us on WhatsAppDfE labels the release provisional. It was published on 15 October 2026, and approved result amendments that schools requested have not been applied when the figures were calculated. The DfE release page carries that wording.
No Progress 8 exists for these pupils: DfE will not publish progress measures for 2024/25 or 2025/26 because the pupils had no Key Stage 2 assessments. Nothing here measures how much a school added to a pupil's grade.
Entries are not pupils. At Kemnal Technology College, DfE counts 128 pupils at the end of Key Stage 4 and records 128 Language entries and 122 Literature entries; at Hayes School it counts 245 pupils against 245 Language entries and 236 Literature entries. The table covers the GCSE (9-1) full course, so a school's entries here are the entries in that qualification. DfE suppresses individual grade breakdowns where a school has 5 or fewer entries, and the tables here read schools with 30 or more.
A tutor measures how far a pupil has come with a short diagnostic against the pupil's own exam board, in each of the two subjects.
No. DfE published the figures on 15 October 2026 and labels the release provisional: approved result amendments that schools requested have not been applied. The tables here read DfE's Subject school level exam data, dataset version 2.0, for the GCSE (9-1) full course, English Language and English Literature as two separate subjects. A school's counts can therefore differ from the final figures, and every share on this page is a provisional share.
DfE's GCSE (9-1) full-course table lists 20 Bromley schools with 30 or more English Language entries and 21 with 30 or more English Literature entries. Bromley High School GDST appears in the Literature table, with 93 of 93 (100%). Bromley is DfE's local authority 305, the London borough, so no county or London-wide figure is used. Entries are exam entries; the tables put DfE's count of pupils at the end of Key Stage 4 beside them.
It differs by school. Across the 20 schools with 30 or more entries in both subjects, the Literature grade 4+ share is above the Language share at 13, below it at 6 and level at 1. Harris Academy Orpington has the widest gap in Literature's favour, 70.6% in Language against 79.1% in Literature, and Darrick Wood School the widest the other way, 78.8% against 76.0%.
Grade 4+ counts every entry at grades 4 to 9. DfE's condition of funding for 16- to 19-year-olds names grade 4 or above in GCSE English and maths as the line, and its 24 July 2026 update clarifies that students with a GCSE grade 3 must study towards a GCSE, while students with a grade 2 or below may study towards either a GCSE or Functional Skills level 2. Grade 7+ counts entries at grades 7 to 9.
GIAS lists Newstead Wood School, St Olave's and St Saviour's Grammar School and Babington House School as selective. At those three schools the English Language grade 4+ share is 90.0% to 100.0% and the Literature share 97.4% to 100.0%. GIAS lists 16 of the schools in the tables as non-selective; at those, Language runs from 39.1% to 93.8% and Literature from 40.2% to 94.3%.
At Newstead Wood School, 145 of 168 Language entries and 131 of 168 Literature entries are at grade 7+. At St Olave's and St Saviour's Grammar School the counts are 107 of 128 in Language and 121 of 128 in Literature. At Darrick Wood School, which has the most Language entries in the table at 260, 41 are at grade 7+ in Language and 38 of 258 in Literature.
