DfE's provisional summer 2026 English Language and English Literature grade counts for Croydon's schools, and one-to-one online GCSE English tuition.
Book a Free ConsultationLeading Tuition's GCSE English tutors in Croydon are expert one-to-one online teachers who start from the child's own school and from the weaker of the two GCSEs, English Language and English Literature. DfE's provisional summer 2026 counts for the 26 Croydon schools with 30 or more Language entries put grade 4+ between 39% at Meridian High School and 97% at Croydon High School.
Croydon means the London borough, DfE's local authority 306. The 25 schools with 30 or more Literature entries run from 39% at Meridian High School (105 entries) to 100% at Fidelis College (92 entries). DfE counts the two GCSEs separately, so the tables below do too.
Our expert GCSE English tutors help pupils across Croydon with both English Language and English Literature, building each programme around a pupil's own school, exam board and latest mock paper.
Book a Free Consultation Message us on WhatsAppDfE's GCSE (9-1) full-course table for summer 2026 lists 36 Croydon schools with English Language entries. Twenty-six of them have 30 or more entries, and each is in the table below with its entries, its cohort (pupils at the end of Key Stage 4) and the number of entries at grade 4 and above and at grade 7 and above. DfE suppresses individual grade breakdowns where a school has 5 or fewer entries in a subject, which applies to 2 of the 36 schools in Language and 1 of the 31 in Literature.

Twenty-five schools have 30 or more entries in both subjects. At 20 of them the Literature grade 4+ share is higher than the Language share, at 4 it is lower (Archbishop Tenison's CofE High School, Coombe Wood School, Meridian High School and The Quest Academy) and at Oasis Academy Coulsdon the two are equal at 142 of 184 entries. The table gives each school's two shares to one decimal place and the difference in percentage points.

The widest gap the other way is at The Quest Academy, where Language is 2.7 points higher. For a pupil at one of these schools, a tutor can start with whichever of the two papers the school's own counts place lower, then check that against the pupil's latest mock.

We arranged maths and English tuition ahead of GCSEs and both tutors were brilliant. My daughter's grades improved, and by results day she achieved two grades higher than in her mock exams.
I attended an English bootcamp with Leading Tuition and the experience was excellent. The teacher gave focused attention to the small group while keeping the lessons interactive and engaging.
Entries are not pupils. DfE publishes the number of entries at each grade and, separately, the number of pupils at the end of Key Stage 4, and the two differ. Fidelis College has 94 Language entries and 92 Literature entries against a cohort of 156 pupils; Meridian High School has 110 and 105 against 113; Riddlesdown Collegiate has 324 and 317 against 325. A school's entries and its cohort are read side by side, and a share is a share of the entries DfE counts.
Croydon High School has the highest grade 4+ share in the Language table and Fidelis College the highest in the Literature table. GIAS, the DfE register of schools, lists both as an other independent school, and Croydon High School is a girls' school on that register.
DfE labels the release provisional. The dataset (version 2.0) was published on 15 October 2026 and was read for this page on 31 October 2026. Approved result amendments that schools requested have not been applied. No Progress 8 exists for pupils who took GCSEs in summer 2026, and every count here is a count of exam entries in one subject, not an all-subject measure such as Attainment 8.
The figures come from DfE's key stage 4 performance statistics for 2025/26, subject school level exam data, GCSE (9-1) full course.

A programme begins with a short diagnostic against the pupil's own school and exam board, covering both English Language and English Literature, then works through that pupil's past papers and marks them against the real mark scheme. Progress is reviewed against the pupil's own target grade at agreed intervals, and session notes go to parents after each lesson.

No. DfE published the figures on 15 October 2026 and labels the release provisional: approved result amendments that schools requested have not been applied. This page reads dataset version 2.0, retrieved on 31 October 2026, which lists 36 Croydon schools with English Language entries and 31 with English Literature entries.
Among the 26 schools with 30 or more entries, grade 4+ runs from 43 of 110 entries at Meridian High School (39%) to 92 of 95 at Croydon High School (97%). Grade 7+ runs from 3 of 110 at Meridian High School to 57 of 95 at Croydon High School. These are shares of exam entries, with the cohort beside them in the table.
At 20 of the 25 schools with 30 or more entries in both subjects, the grade 4+ share is higher in Literature than in Language, by up to 12.6 percentage points at Shirley High School Performing Arts College. At 4 schools Language is higher, and at Oasis Academy Coulsdon both are 142 of 184. A tutor checks the pupil's own mocks before choosing a starting paper.
DfE publishes entries and pupils at the end of Key Stage 4 as separate indicators. For Fidelis College the Language count is 94 entries and the Literature count 92, against a cohort of 156 pupils. Entries are not pupils, so the grade 4+ counts of 88 and 92 are read as shares of entries, not of the cohort.
DfE's GCSE (9-1) full-course table has a Language row for Croydon High School, with 95 entries and a cohort of 95, and its Literature row is not in that table. The Literature table therefore covers 25 schools against 26 in Language. GIAS lists Croydon High School as an other independent school.
In English Language grade 7+ runs from 3 of 110 entries at Meridian High School to 57 of 95 at Croydon High School. In English Literature it runs from 7 of 151 at St Joseph's College to 58 of 146 at Coloma Convent Girls' School. Coombe Wood School records 59 of 176 in Language and 61 of 173 in Literature.
Each programme begins with a short diagnostic against the pupil's own school and exam board for both English Language and English Literature. Sessions run one-to-one online on a shared whiteboard, past papers are marked against the real mark scheme, progress is reviewed against the pupil's target grade, and session notes go to parents after each lesson. 91% of our students achieve their desired grades.
