How many pupils at each Enfield school sit the separate GCSE Chemistry?

DfE's GCSE (9-1) full-course table for Chemistry counts exam entries. DfE's cohort figure is a different count: pupils at the end of Key Stage 4. Set side by side, they show how many of a school's pupils sit Chemistry as a separate GCSE, and the six schools differ widely.

At The Latymer School DfE counts 190 entries from 190 pupils. At Southgate School it counts 83 entries from 233 pupils, at Edmonton County School 51 from 268, at Wren Academy Enfield 45 from 184, at The Lea Valley Academy 43 from 140 and at Kingsmead School 40 from 242.

The six schools together hold 452 of the 763 entries in DfE's Enfield table, and 1257 pupils at the end of Key Stage 4. The pupils in the table are the ones sitting the separate Chemistry GCSE; pupils taking Combined Science (Double Award), a different qualification, are not in these rows, so no school's whole year group is read as having sat Chemistry.

What were the grade counts at each school in summer 2026?

The table gives DfE's own grade counts for each school, from grade 9 down to grade 1, then U and X. A blank cell in DfE's table is a zero here, because each row adds up to the school's total entries. At Edmonton County School, for example, the 51 entries split 8 on grade 9, 11 on grade 8, 7 on grade 7, 18 on grade 6 and 7 on grade 5.

The two schools at either end of the table read differently. The Latymer School's 190 entries include 74 on grade 9 and 67 on grade 8, with 1 on grade 4. At The Lea Valley Academy the most common result is grade 4, with 18 of its 43 entries, followed by grade 5 with 9.

How many entries reached grade 4, 5 and 7 and above?

The next table adds DfE's grade rows together: grade 4 or above is the sum of grades 4 to 9, grade 5 or above the sum of 5 to 9, and grade 7 or above the sum of 7 to 9. These sums are ours, made from DfE's counts, and each share is the sum divided by the school's total entries.

Grade 4 or above runs from 76.7% at The Lea Valley Academy (33 of 43) to 100% at four schools: Edmonton County School (51 entries), Southgate School (83), The Latymer School (190) and Wren Academy Enfield (45). Kingsmead School is at 95.0%, with 38 of 40.

The same four schools are less alike at grade 7 or above: 26 of 51 at Edmonton County School, 46 of 83 at Southgate School, 22 of 45 at Wren Academy Enfield and 171 of 190 at The Latymer School. Across all six schools, 282 of 452 entries (62.4%) are at grade 7 or above and 102 are grade 9.

What do these counts change in a first Chemistry session?

A tutor reads the school's counts as context and the pupil's own mock paper as the starting point. The question for the first session is which marks a pupil is missing, topic by topic, against the pupil's own exam board.

The Latymer School. DfE counts 190 entries from 190 pupils, 171 of them at grade 7 or above. Get Information About Schools records the school's admissions policy as Selective, and the other five schools in this table as Non-selective, so Enfield's range at grade 5 or above, from 34.9% at The Lea Valley Academy to 100% at Edmonton County School, is not one pattern. Our The Latymer School 11+ guide covers its entry route.

Southgate School. 83 entries from 233 pupils, with grade 7 the most common result at 22 entries and 19 on grade 6. Every entry is at grade 4 or above, and 37 of the 83 are below grade 7; a tutor's work with these pupils is on the marks between their own grade and grade 7.

Edmonton County School. 51 entries from 268 pupils, with grade 6 the most common result at 18 entries. All 51 entries are at grade 5 or above, and 25 of 51 are below grade 7.

Wren Academy Enfield. 45 entries from 184 pupils, split 9 on grade 9, 4 on grade 8, 9 on grade 7, 11 on grade 6, 10 on grade 5 and 2 on grade 4. Every entry is at grade 4 or above, the same as at three other Enfield schools.

The Lea Valley Academy. 43 entries from 140 pupils. 33 entries are at grade 4 or above and 10 are below it, counting 8 on grade 3, 1 on grade 2 and 1 X. For these pupils a tutor spends the early sessions on the topics that hold marks at the grade 4 boundary.

Kingsmead School. 40 entries from 242 pupils, 38 at grade 4 or above and 2 on grade 3. The most common results are grades 4 and 5, each with 9 entries.

Which other Enfield schools enter pupils for Chemistry?

DfE's Enfield table lists 14 further schools with fewer than 30 Chemistry entries. Their grade counts are not read here, because each row is too small to compare, but the entries beside each school's year group show how many of its pupils sit the separate GCSE.

The 14 schools hold 311 entries between them, against 452 at the six schools above. Enfield Grammar School has 1 entry against 178 pupils and is left out of the grade tables because it falls below the 30-entry floor used on this page; DfE's table shows that entry in the total only.

What can these results not tell an Enfield family?

DfE labels the release provisional. It was published on 15 October 2026, and any approved result amendments that schools requested have not been applied.

No Progress 8 exists for these pupils: DfE will not publish progress measures for 2024/25 or 2025/26 because the pupils had no Key Stage 2 assessments. Nothing here measures how much a school added to a pupil's grade. Read DfE's own explanation on DfE's Key stage 4 performance release.

A school's grade 4 or above share describes a year group's entries, not an individual child, and a share of 100% at grade 4 or above sits beside grade 7 or above counts of 22 to 171 at the four schools that reach it. A tutor measures how far a pupil has come with a short diagnostic against the pupil's own exam board.

Confidence and progress

My son was low in confidence after COVID and the gaps in learning were building up. Using this service helped plug those gaps, rebuild confidence, and improve his ability to learn properly again.

Amazing tutors!

We arranged maths and English tuition ahead of GCSEs and both tutors were brilliant. My daughter's grades improved, and by results day she achieved two grades higher than in her mock exams.

Great Teaching and Focused Learning

I attended an English bootcamp with Leading Tuition and the experience was excellent. The teacher gave focused attention to the small group while keeping the lessons interactive and engaging.

How do Leading Tuition's tutors work with Enfield's GCSE Chemistry pupils?

Sessions are one-to-one online with a shared whiteboard. A programme begins with a short diagnostic against the pupil's own school and exam board, then works through that pupil's past papers and marks them against the real mark scheme. Progress is reviewed against the pupil's own target grade at agreed intervals, and session notes go to parents after each lesson.

The exam board a school enters a pupil for sets the papers, so our tutors confirm it first: see our AQA GCSE Chemistry tuition, Edexcel GCSE Chemistry tuition and OCR GCSE Chemistry tuition pages. The GCSE Chemistry tuition page covers tiers and the wider specification, and our Chemistry tutoring service gives the subject picture across year groups. 91% of Leading Tuition students achieve their desired grades.

The same DfE table underlies our GCSE Biology tutors in Enfield and GCSE Maths tutors in Enfield pages, and tutoring across Enfield is collected on the Enfield page.

Our GCSE Chemistry tutors teach pupils from any Enfield school online, one to one, working through the pupil's own past papers with the real mark scheme.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are Enfield's summer 2026 GCSE Chemistry figures final?

No. DfE published its Key stage 4 performance release on 15 October 2026 and labels the data provisional, so a school's counts can still change. This page reads DfE's school-level table for the separate GCSE (9-1) Chemistry, retrieved on 2 November 2026, which lists 20 Enfield schools and 763 Chemistry entries. Every count and every share here is provisional, and the grade 4, 5 and 7 and above figures are our own sums of DfE's grade rows.

How many Enfield pupils sat separate GCSE Chemistry in summer 2026?

DfE's table lists 763 GCSE (9-1) Chemistry entries across 20 Enfield schools. Six schools have 30 or more entries, 452 between them: The Latymer School 190, Southgate School 83, Edmonton County School 51, Wren Academy Enfield 45, The Lea Valley Academy 43 and Kingsmead School 40. DfE counts entries, which are not the same as pupils.

Why is my child's Enfield school not in the grade tables?

The grade tables read the six Enfield schools with 30 or more Chemistry entries. The other 14 schools in DfE's table have between 1 and 28 entries, from Oasis Academy Enfield, Lift Aylward and St Ignatius College at 28 each to Enfield Grammar School at 1 against 178 pupils; the second table above lists all 14. A tutor works from the pupil's own mock paper whichever school the pupil attends.

Does 100% at grade 4 or above mean every pupil at the school did well?

No. Four Enfield schools have every Chemistry entry at grade 4 or above: Edmonton County School (51 entries), Southgate School (83), The Latymer School (190) and Wren Academy Enfield (45). At grade 7 or above their counts are 26, 46, 171 and 22, so a share at grade 4 describes the floor of the year group, not each pupil's grade.

Why does The Latymer School look different from the other five?

DfE counts 190 Chemistry entries at The Latymer School against 190 pupils at the end of Key Stage 4, and 74 of the entries are grade 9. Get Information About Schools records the school's admissions policy as Selective and the other five schools as Non-selective. The Latymer School's counts therefore tell a family little about Kingsmead School or The Lea Valley Academy, whose entries are 40 and 43.

Is this the separate GCSE in Chemistry or Combined Science?

These rows are the separate GCSE (9-1) Chemistry, DfE's full-course qualification AHDJG. Pupils taking Combined Science (Double Award), which is a different qualification, are not in these rows. At Southgate School 83 entries sit beside 233 pupils and at Kingsmead School 40 beside 242, so the table shows how many pupils sit the separate GCSE, not how many study science.

How many Enfield entries finished below grade 4 in 2026?

Across the six schools with 30 or more entries, 12 of 452 finished below grade 4, counting grades 3, 2, 1, U and X: 2 at Kingsmead School (2 on grade 3) and 10 at The Lea Valley Academy (8 on grade 3, 1 on grade 2 and 1 X). These are DfE's provisional counts, and the four other schools have none below grade 4.

How does an Enfield pupil start GCSE Chemistry tuition?

A family books a free consultation through the button on this page or by WhatsApp. The first step is a short diagnostic against the pupil's own school and exam board, AQA, Pearson Edexcel or OCR. Sessions then run one-to-one online with a shared whiteboard, working through the pupil's own past papers and marking against the real mark scheme, with session notes shared with parents after each lesson.
