Fifteen providers, 295 exam entries in 2024/25, and six Harrow schools with no published Physics score whose results sit inside one partnership row.
Book a Free ConsultationA level Physics in Harrow is entered at fifteen providers, which made 295 exam entries in 2024/25 according to Department for Education data. Ten of those providers share one pooled row, Harrow Collegiate, and six of the ten have no published value-added score. Their 29 entries can be recovered by subtracting from the Collegiate's total, which is what this page does.
Our expert A level Physics tutors help students across Harrow on the specification their own sixth form enters, whether that is OCR, Edexcel or AQA. Each programme starts from the papers that student will actually sit and the mathematics those papers demand.
Harrow is its own local authority, code 310, so the borough and the data boundary are the same thing: every provider below carries a DfE reference number beginning 310, and nothing from Barnet, Brent or Hillingdon is folded in. Two measures run through the page, both from DfE's A level and other 16 to 18 results release for 2024/25, and they are not interchangeable. Exam entries count every A level Physics entry DfE records for a provider. Matched entries are the subset DfE could link to the student's GCSE results, which is what a value-added score is calculated from.
Counted once each, Harrow's providers made 295 A level Physics exam entries in 2024/25, and DfE matched 287 of them to prior attainment. That total uses the Collegiate's own row and leaves out the ten schools inside it, because adding both would count the same students twice. Of the 295, 239 were at state-funded providers: St Dominic's Sixth Form College with 93, Avanti House School with 27 and the Collegiate's schools with 119. The other 56 were at two independent schools, Harrow School with 50 and The John Lyon School with 6. DfE's separate count of Harrow students entered for Physics, which covers state-funded providers only, is 239, the same figure.

Ordered by exam entries within each group. The Collegiate row is shown once and its ten schools are listed beneath it, not added to it.
Three Harrow providers are absent from the table. North London Collegiate School enters Physics only as International Baccalaureate components, five in 2024/25 across Higher and Standard level, and not as an A level. Stanmore College records three A level students in DfE's sixth-form data and no Physics entry. Heartwood House records none.
Harrow Collegiate is not a sixth form a student can apply to. The Get Information about Schools register (GIAS) lists it as a sixth form centre, URN 135469, and links exactly ten schools to it, each typed Sixth Form Centre School. Each of those ten schools' own register pages links back to it, and none of the other Harrow providers does. Its Physics row is those ten schools pooled: its 119 exam entries are the sum of theirs. Our A-level Chemistry, Biology and Maths pages for Harrow come at the partnership from other directions; what follows is particular to Physics.
Our expert A level Physics tutors teach students at Harrow's sixth forms and colleges, from St Dominic's to the Collegiate's smaller departments, working from the student's own board, marked work and mock results.
Six of the fifteen Physics rows carry no published value-added score, which is 40% of the rows. They are not six random small providers. They are six of the Collegiate's ten schools: Harrow High School, Hatch End High School, Bentley Wood High School, Whitefriars School, Canons High School and Rooks Heath School. DfE marks each of their scores, intervals and matched counts as confidential. It still publishes each school's exam-entry total.
Counted by students rather than by rows, the gap is smaller. The six schools made 29 of the borough's 295 entries, 9.8%, and every one of those entries sits inside the Collegiate's published row. What is missing is the split by school, not the students.
The value-added column shows the same structure. The Collegiate's row has 114 matched entries. The four member schools that publish a score, Nower Hill, Pinner, Park and Whitmore, account for 87 of them. The other 27 belong to the six.
| Measure | Collegiate row | Four schools that publish a score | Remainder: the six that do not |
|---|---|---|---|
| Matched entries (value added) | 114 | 87 | 27 |
| Exam entries | 119 | 90 | 29 |
Source: DfE value added and subject entries and grades datasets, as above. The remainder column is the Collegiate row minus the four schools that publish a score; it is not a published figure.
This is subtraction on published totals, not an estimate, and it works only because the Collegiate's row is an exact sum of its schools'. The check is available where all ten schools publish. In A level Biology the Collegiate's 232 exam entries equal the ten schools' 232, and every grade count matches. In A level Maths the two agree at 484, again grade for grade. A method that returns the known answer twice is a method that can be tested before it is used where one side is missing.

Applied to Physics, the same subtraction says something about the four schools whose grades DfE withholds as well as their scores. Bentley Wood High School, Whitefriars School, Canons High School and Rooks Heath School made 5, 5, 4 and 3 entries. Take the Collegiate's grade counts, remove the six schools that do publish grades, and what remains is those four schools' results added together.
| Grade | Collegiate row | Six schools that publish grades, added up | Four schools whose grades are withheld, by subtraction |
|---|---|---|---|

Source: DfE, Schools and colleges - subject entries and grades, 2024/25, GCE A level, Physics, read through the Explore Education Statistics public API on 16 October 2026. The right-hand column is the Collegiate row minus the middle column; DfE does not publish it. "U" is the ungraded result, which DfE labels "Fail" at school level.
It is a pooled split and nothing more. It does not say which of the four schools any grade belongs to, and this page does not attribute one. Eight of the 17 entries were graded A* to B, 47%, against 54.1% nationally; with 17 entries one result moves that figure by six percentage points, so the comparison carries no weight. What the subtraction does not return is a score. DfE does not state that a partnership's value-added score is the sum of its schools' scores, so the page does not back one out, and the six schools' value added stays unpublished.
The Collegiate's own course arrangements may account for cohorts this small. Hatch End High School's Physics course sheet says that Collegiate courses which do not recruit to a satisfactory level “may be offered at another centre or withdrawn”, and its courses page says that a combination not possible on site can usually be offered by using courses elsewhere in the Collegiate. The tables show how many entries each school is credited with; they do not show where each lesson is taught.
Whatever a sixth form's grade table says, our expert A level Physics tutors work towards the grade the student is aiming for, starting from the topics the department has already taught and the questions that student loses marks on.
Raw grades and value added answer different questions, and in Harrow's Physics data they point in different directions. The table sets each provider with at least 16 entries beside its value-added score. The six schools inside the Collegiate with fewer entries than that are covered in the previous section.

Source: DfE, Schools and colleges - subject entries and grades and qualification and subject value added, 2024/25, GCE A level, Physics, local authority 310, read through the Explore Education Statistics public API on 16 October 2026; national row from DfE's national comparator subject entries and grades dataset. Percentages are shares of exam entries. Intervals are DfE's 95% confidence intervals. A score is a finding only when its interval lies wholly on one side of zero. These are DfE's progress measure for 2024/25 entrants and are not measures of teaching quality.
The share of entries graded A* to B runs from 25.0% at Park High School to 82.0% at Harrow School, against 54.1% nationally. Value added, which allows for what students arrived with, does not follow that spread. Pinner High School's 28.6% is 25.5 points under the national share and its score is 0.1 with an interval of -0.35 to 0.54; Harrow School's 82.0% is 27.9 points over, and its score is 0.03 with an interval of -0.31 to 0.37. Both intervals span zero, and so do eight of the nine published intervals in total. A sixth form whose intake arrives with high GCSE grades will post high Physics grades whether or not it adds much; value added exists to separate the two.
One row is different. Park High School's score is -0.64, with an interval of -1.22 to -0.06 on 16 matched entries, the only published interval in the borough wholly on one side of zero. Seven of its 16 entries were graded E or U, 43.8%, against 13.2% nationally. That is one year's results for 16 entries, and DfE's measure is not a verdict on teaching. The John Lyon School's published row rests on 6 matched entries and its interval, -1.27 to 0.62, is wide enough to say almost nothing.
The honest reading is that Harrow's published Physics data does not rank its departments. Eight of nine value-added intervals cannot be told apart from the national average, and the grade table mostly records who the sixth forms admit.
Our expert A level Physics tutors help students across Harrow close the distance between a sixth form's published course and what an individual paper asks of them, topic by topic and past paper by past paper.
Of the 239 students at Harrow's state-funded providers entered for A level Physics in 2024/25, 46 were girls and 193 boys, so girls were 19.2% of the cohort. The same share was 23.0% across England and 24.4% in London. Harrow's figure is lower, but not by more than ordinary year-to-year movement. The borough's count of girls has run 58, 39, 60, 65 and 46 over the five years to 2024/25, and England's share would put about 55 girls in a cohort of 239. Over the five years Harrow's girls make up 22.7% of its Physics students against 22.1% in England. The data does not show that Harrow recruits fewer girls to Physics than elsewhere. What it shows is where the 46 are.
The school-level counts come from DfE's A level maths and science table, which gives each provider's percentage of A level students entered for each subject, by sex, together with the number of students. Multiplying the two gives a head-count. Those head-counts are checked against two other sources rather than trusted: for all fifteen providers the girls and boys add to the exam-entry total in DfE's subject-entries table, and the three state-funded providers' counts add to 46 girls and 193 boys, the numbers in DfE's subject-combinations table for Harrow.
| Provider | Exam entries | Girls | Boys | Girls as a share of entries |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| St Dominic's Sixth Form College | 93 | 22 | 71 | 23.7% |
| Avanti House School | 27 | 6 | 21 | 22.2% |
| Harrow Collegiate (ten schools pooled) | 119 | 18 | 101 | 15.1% |
| Harrow School and The John Lyon School | 56 | 0 | 56 | 0.0% |
| Harrow, each entry counted once | 295 | 46 | 249 | 15.6% |
Source: DfE, Schools and colleges - A level maths and science (percentage of students entered, by sex, and the number of A level students), multiplied to give head-counts; exam entries from Schools and colleges - subject entries and grades; Harrow, London and England totals from Maths and science - subject combinations by region and sex; all 2024/25, read through the Explore Education Statistics public API on 16 October 2026. England is the nine regions summed. Counts are given for groups, not for individual schools with fewer than 14 Physics entries.
Three things stand out. (The table's bottom row takes in the two independent schools' 56 entries, which is why its share is lower than the 19.2% above, a figure for state-funded providers only.) St Dominic's Sixth Form College accounts for 22 of the borough's 46 girls, 48%, from 32% of its entries. Neither independent school entered a girl: Harrow School is a boys' school, and DfE records no girls in The John Lyon School's A level cohort. And inside the Collegiate the 18 girls are spread so thinly that no member school recorded more than five and four of the ten recorded none. Bentley Wood High School, the Collegiate's one girls' school, writes on its own Physics page that “still relatively few girls take it as an option”.
One of the four is large enough to name. Park High School records 27 girls and 70 boys in its A level cohort and 16 Physics entries; DfE's percentages put none of the girls among them (0.0% of 27) and 22.9% of the boys. That is what the dataset records. It says nothing about what the school offers or allows, and a student's lessons may be taught at a partner school while the entry is credited to their own.
My son was low in confidence after COVID and the gaps in learning were building up. Using this service helped plug those gaps, rebuild confidence, and improve his ability to learn properly again.
We arranged maths and English tuition ahead of GCSEs and both tutors were brilliant. My daughter's grades improved, and by results day she achieved two grades higher than in her mock exams.
I attended an English bootcamp with Leading Tuition and the experience was excellent. The teacher gave focused attention to the small group while keeping the lessons interactive and engaging.
We read each provider's pages on 16 October 2026 and found a Physics board for four of the fifteen providers. That records what we located, not what the other eleven enter, and the department will answer in a sentence.
| Provider | Physics board named | GCSE entry bar for Physics | Maths alongside Physics |

| St Dominic's Sixth Form College | OCR | English Language 5, Maths 7, Physics 7, Science 7,6 (August 2027 entry) | — |

St Dominic's Sixth Form College, which holds 93 of the 295 entries, publishes one table for August 2027 entry. On its Physics row the GCSE Maths grade asked for is 7, the same as on its Maths row and its Chemistry row, and a grade above the 6 on its Biology row. Two of the six documents write down a rule that A level Maths must be taken with Physics: Nower Hill High School's course document says students must study Maths in Year 12, and Hatch End High School's sheet says A level Maths must be studied alongside. In practice almost everyone does anyway. Of the 239 Harrow state-funded Physics students, 228 also entered A level Maths, 95.4%, against 93.0% across London and 89.4% across England.
Our expert A level Physics tutors help Harrow students whose sixth form requires Maths alongside Physics, and those whose board is still to be confirmed, with one-to-one sessions in person across Harrow or online.
Both Edexcel documents, Nower Hill's and Hatch End's, state sixteen core practicals. St Dominic's says a pass or fail is awarded for its practical endorsement, which is recorded separately from the A level grade. The A level Physics subject page sets out how the specifications are built.
Everything above points at one practical problem. The Physics a Harrow student sits depends on the sixth form: OCR at St Dominic's and Park, Edexcel at Nower Hill and Hatch End, no board found for the other eleven providers, Maths required alongside at two of them and taken by 95.4% of students anyway. A programme built on Physics in general misses most of that.
Our expert A level Physics tutors teach across Harrow's sixth forms and colleges, and each programme starts from three things the student's own provider supplies: the specification and the past papers that student will sit, the marked work and mock results already in hand, and the mathematics those papers demand, which at several Harrow sixth forms means working alongside the A level Maths course. At the Collegiate's smaller departments, where a school's whole Physics entry in 2024/25 was between three and six students, one-to-one sessions give a student a place to bring a question the class has no room for.
91% of our students achieve their desired grades. Tuition is one-to-one, in person across Harrow or online, and a free consultation is the way to begin: a conversation about the student, their sixth form and the specification they are entered for.
Counting each entry once, Harrow providers made 295 A level Physics exam entries in 2024/25 and the Department for Education matched 287 to prior attainment. Harrow Collegiate's own row of 119 entries is the ten schools inside it pooled, so it is counted once and its members are not added again. St Dominic's Sixth Form College made 93 entries, Harrow School 50, Avanti House School 27 and The John Lyon School 6. The 239 entries at state-funded providers match DfE's separate count of Harrow students entered for Physics.
DfE marks the value-added score, interval and matched count for six of Harrow's fifteen Physics rows as confidential. All six are among the ten schools linked to Harrow Collegiate, and together they made 29 of the borough's 295 entries, 9.8%. The Collegiate publishes 114 matched entries; the four member schools that publish a score account for 87, leaving 27 for the six. DfE still gives each school's exam-entry total, so the six can be named, but no school-level score exists for them.
Bentley Wood High School, Whitefriars School, Canons High School and Rooks Heath School made 5, 5, 4 and 3 entries, and DfE withholds their grades. Subtracting the six Collegiate schools that publish grades from the Collegiate's own row leaves their combined result: 1 A*, 3 A, 4 B, 5 C, 2 D, 2 E and no U, 17 entries in all. It is arithmetic on published totals, tested on Biology and Maths where every school publishes, and it is a pooled split that cannot be assigned to any one of the four.
Neither separates Harrow's providers cleanly. The share of entries graded A* to B runs from 25.0% at Park High School to 82.0% at Harrow School, against 54.1% nationally. Value added allows for what students arrived with, and only Park's interval, -1.22 to -0.06, lies wholly below zero. The other eight published intervals span zero, including Pinner High School at 28.6% A* to B and Harrow School at 82.0%.
At Harrow's state-funded providers 46 of the 239 students entered for A level Physics in 2024/25 were girls, 19.2%, against 23.0% across England and 24.4% in London. Harrow's count of girls has ranged from 39 to 65 over five years, and England's share would put about 55 girls in a cohort of 239, so the gap sits within normal variation. What is distinctive is where they are: 22 at St Dominic's Sixth Form College, 6 at Avanti House School and 18 across the Collegiate's ten schools.
It depends on the sixth form. St Dominic's Sixth Form College and Park High School name OCR, Park giving specification H556; Nower Hill High School and Hatch End High School name Edexcel. For the other eleven providers we found no Physics board on the pages we read on 16 October 2026, which records what we located and not what they enter. The department will answer in a sentence, and the board decides which past papers a tutor starts from.
Two sixth forms write it down. Nower Hill High School says students must study Maths in Year 12, and Hatch End High School's course sheet says A level Maths must be studied alongside Physics. Elsewhere it is custom rather than rule: 228 of the 239 students entered for Physics at Harrow's state-funded providers also entered Maths, 95.4%, against 93.0% in London and 89.4% in England. At St Dominic's Sixth Form College the GCSE Maths grade asked for Physics is 7, the same as for A level Maths itself.
Tell us which sixth form the student attends and which board it enters, and our expert A level Physics tutors will build the programme around that specification and the mathematics beside it. Harrow students also work with us on A-level Chemistry and across our other Harrow subjects.
