DfE's provisional summer 2026 English Language and English Literature grades for Twickenham's schools, counted separately.
Book a Free ConsultationLeading Tuition's GCSE English tutors in Twickenham are expert one-to-one online teachers who work from each pupil's own English Language and English Literature grades. DfE's provisional summer 2026 tables give grade splits for seven Twickenham schools: 981 of their 1,111 English Language entries reached grade 4 or above, and 986 of their 1,099 English Literature entries did.
English Language and English Literature are separate GCSEs, so every table below shows one subject only. Twickenham is a town in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames, which is DfE's local authority 318; the schools below are cut from the borough table by their GIAS address.
Our expert GCSE English tutors help pupils across Twickenham with both English Language and English Literature, building each one-to-one online programme around the pupil's own school, exam board and latest mock paper.
Book a Free Consultation Message us on WhatsAppDfE publishes one table of school-level GCSE grades, and the borough of Richmond upon Thames holds 19 schools in its English Language rows and 18 in its English Literature rows. A school counts as Twickenham here when its address in GIAS, the Department for Education's register of schools, gives Twickenham as the town and a TW1 or TW2 postcode. St Richard Reynolds Catholic High School is the one exception to the town field: GIAS gives its town as London, with the postcode TW1 4LT and Twickenham as the locality, and it sits in the same list as the live GCSE maths tutors in Twickenham page.
Seven schools publish a grade split in both subjects: Orleans Park School, Waldegrave School, St Richard Reynolds Catholic High School, Turing House School, The Richmond upon Thames School, Twickenham School and Kneller Hall School. Together they hold 1,118 pupils at the end of Key Stage 4. DfE's tables also list Clarendon School, with 4 English Language entries and 3 English Literature entries against 15 pupils, and Capella House School, with 1 English Language entry against 7 pupils, but the grade split is withheld for both schools and only entry totals are shown, so neither is compared below.
Entries are not pupils. DfE lists pupils at the end of Key Stage 4 and GCSE entries as separate measures, so Waldegrave School shows 219 pupils, 217 English Language entries and 214 English Literature entries. Each table keeps the cohort beside the entries for that reason.
The figures are provisional. DfE published them on 15 October 2026 and says in the release that approved result amendments requested by schools have not been applied. DfE also says progress measures will not be published for the 2024/25 and 2025/26 academic years, so these counts show what each year group reached, not how much a school added.
The table below is DfE's provisional summer 2026 count for GCSE (9-1) English Language, full course. Grade 4 is the line DfE's 16 to 19 funding guidance uses, and the table also counts grade 7 or above and grade 9.
| School | English Language entries | Pupils at end of KS4 | Grade 9 | Grade 7 or above | Grade 4 or above | Below grade 4 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Orleans Park School | 219 | 219 | 14 | 97 (44%) | 199 (91%) | 20 |
| Waldegrave School | 217 | 219 | 24 | 98 (45%) | 203 (94%) | 14 |
| St Richard Reynolds Catholic High School | 176 | 177 | 12 | 69 (39%) | 161 (91%) | 15 |
| Turing House School | 162 | 163 | 10 | 45 (28%) | 143 (88%) | 19 |
| The Richmond upon Thames School | 143 | 144 | 4 | 28 (20%) | 121 (85%) | 22 |
| Twickenham School | 129 | 131 | 6 | 33 (26%) | 89 (69%) | 40 |
| Kneller Hall School | 65 | 65 | 12 | 40 (62%) | 65 (100%) | 0 |
| Seven schools combined | 1,111 | 1,118 | 82 | 410 (36.9%) | 981 (88.3%) | 130 |
Six of the seven schools sit between 69% and 94% at grade 4 or above: 89 of 129 at Twickenham School is the lowest share and 203 of 217 at Waldegrave School the highest. Kneller Hall School has all 65 of its 65 pupils at grade 4 or above, and its grade 7 count of 40 is 62% of entries.
At grade 7 or above the six schools other than Kneller Hall School run from 20% (28 of 143) at The Richmond upon Thames School to 45% (98 of 217) at Waldegrave School. Waldegrave School also has the largest grade 9 count in the table, 24, ahead of 14 at Orleans Park School. Across the seven schools 130 entries are below grade 4, of which 40 are at Twickenham School, from 129 entries.
Turing House School shows 162 entries for 163 pupils, with 143 at grade 4 or above and 45 at grade 7 or above; St Richard Reynolds Catholic High School shows 176 entries for 177 pupils, with 161 at grade 4 or above and 69 at grade 7 or above. The Richmond upon Thames School has 143 entries for 144 pupils and 22 below grade 4.
This table is DfE's provisional summer 2026 count for GCSE (9-1) English Literature, full course. It is a separate GCSE with its own entries, so none of these counts is added to the Language table above.
| School | English Literature entries | Pupils at end of KS4 | Grade 9 | Grade 7 or above | Grade 4 or above | Below grade 4 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Orleans Park School | 219 | 219 | 30 | 107 (49%) | 204 (93%) | 15 |
| Waldegrave School | 214 | 219 | 43 | 109 (51%) | 198 (93%) | 16 |
| St Richard Reynolds Catholic High School | 174 | 177 | 10 | 67 (39%) | 163 (94%) | 11 |
| Turing House School | 157 | 163 | 10 | 50 (32%) | 144 (92%) | 13 |
| The Richmond upon Thames School | 143 | 144 | 3 | 34 (24%) | 115 (80%) | 28 |
| Twickenham School | 127 | 131 | 6 | 30 (24%) | 98 (77%) | 29 |
| Kneller Hall School | 65 | 65 | 15 | 42 (65%) | 64 (98%) | 1 |
| Seven schools combined | 1,099 | 1,118 | 117 | 439 (39.9%) | 986 (89.7%) | 113 |
The seven schools hold 1,099 English Literature entries for 1,118 pupils, and 986 of those entries are at grade 4 or above. The six schools other than Kneller Hall School run from 80% (115 of 143) at The Richmond upon Thames School to 94% (163 of 174) at St Richard Reynolds Catholic High School at grade 4 or above, and from 24% (34 of 143) at The Richmond upon Thames School to 51% (109 of 214) at Waldegrave School at grade 7 or above.
Grade 9 counts are larger in this table than in the Language table: 117 entries at grade 9 across the seven schools against 82 in English Language. Waldegrave School has 43 of them from 214 entries, Orleans Park School 30 from 219, and Kneller Hall School 15 from 65. The count below grade 4 is 113 across the seven schools, 28 of them at The Richmond upon Thames School and 29 at Twickenham School.
A pupil at a Twickenham school can take one-to-one online sessions in English Language, English Literature or both. Our expert English tutors start from the pupil's own marked work and exam board, then plan the weeks to the GCSE papers.
Book a Free Consultation Message us on WhatsAppThe same cohort sits two different GCSEs, and the two sets of grades do not move together. The table sets each school's share at grade 4 or above and at grade 7 or above in the two subjects side by side, with the difference in percentage points, Literature minus Language, taken from the rounded shares.
| School | Grade 4 or above, Language | Grade 4 or above, Literature | Difference in points (Literature minus Language) | Grade 7 or above, Language | Grade 7 or above, Literature | Difference in points (Literature minus Language) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Orleans Park School | 91% | 93% | +2 | 44% | 49% | +5 |
| Waldegrave School | 94% | 93% | -1 | 45% | 51% | +6 |
| St Richard Reynolds Catholic High School | 91% | 94% | +3 | 39% | 39% | 0 |
| Turing House School | 88% | 92% | +4 | 28% | 32% | +4 |
| The Richmond upon Thames School | 85% | 80% | -5 | 20% | 24% | +4 |
| Twickenham School | 69% | 77% | +8 | 26% | 24% | -2 |
| Kneller Hall School | 100% | 98% | -2 | 62% | 65% | +3 |
At grade 4 or above, Twickenham School has the widest difference, 69% in English Language against 77% in English Literature, a gap of 8 points, from 129 Language entries and 127 Literature entries. Turing House School shows +4 points, St Richard Reynolds Catholic High School +3 and Orleans Park School +2 in Literature's favour, while The Richmond upon Thames School shows 85% in Language and 80% in Literature, -5 points.
At grade 7 or above the pattern changes. Waldegrave School has 45% in Language and 51% in Literature, Orleans Park School 44% and 49%, and Twickenham School 26% and 24%, which is -2 points in the other direction. Grade 9 counts follow the same split: Waldegrave School has 24 in Language and 43 in Literature, Orleans Park School 14 and 30, and St Richard Reynolds Catholic High School 12 and 10.
The figures say how many entries landed on each grade; they do not say why two subjects differ at a school, and this page offers no reason. What the counts do show is that a family at any of these schools has two separate numbers to read. A pupil whose Language grade sits just under 4 and whose Literature grade is secure needs a different programme from the reverse, which is why one-to-one sessions start from the pupil's own marked papers in each subject.
My son was low in confidence after COVID and the gaps in learning were building up. Using this service helped plug those gaps, rebuild confidence, and improve his ability to learn properly again.
We arranged maths and English tuition ahead of GCSEs and both tutors were brilliant. My daughter's grades improved, and by results day she achieved two grades higher than in her mock exams.
I attended an English bootcamp with Leading Tuition and the experience was excellent. The teacher gave focused attention to the small group while keeping the lessons interactive and engaging.
Kneller Hall School has 65 pupils at the end of Key Stage 4. In English Language all 65 entries are at grade 4 or above and 40 are at grade 7 or above, 62% of entries; in English Literature 64 of 65 entries are at grade 4 or above and 42 are at grade 7 or above, 65%. GIAS records the school's admissions policy as selective, so a borough-wide range does not describe the same kind of intake as the other six schools in the tables.
For the other six schools the grade 7 column runs from 20% to 45% in English Language and from 24% to 51% in English Literature. Read against cohort size, that is 97 of 219 entries at Orleans Park School in Language and 107 of 219 in Literature, against 45 of 162 and 50 of 157 at Turing House School. The grade 4 column and the grade 7 column answer different questions: one sets what a pupil studies after Year 11, the other sets how much of the top of the mark range a pupil has secured.
Whether a pupil needs the grade 4 line in English Language or a higher count of grade 7 entries in English Literature, our expert English tutors in Twickenham teach one-to-one online and start from the pupil's own marked papers.
Book a Free Consultation Message us on WhatsAppThe grade 4 column carries a consequence at 16. DfE's 16 to 19 maths and English condition of funding, last updated on 24 July 2026, applies to 16- to 19-year-olds on study programmes without GCSE maths and English grade 4 or above. Its clarification of that date says that students with a GCSE grade 3 must study towards a GCSE, while students with a GCSE grade 2 or below may study towards either a GCSE or Functional Skills level 2.
In the seven schools' English Language tables, 130 entries are below grade 4: 20 at Orleans Park School, 14 at Waldegrave School, 15 at St Richard Reynolds Catholic High School, 19 at Turing House School, 22 at The Richmond upon Thames School, 40 at Twickenham School and 0 at Kneller Hall School. The English Literature counts below grade 4 are 15, 16, 11, 13, 28, 29 and 1 in the same order.
Families who want the full picture of a missed grade can read what happens after a failed GCSE English and what to do when English Language is failed and Literature passed. Both treat the two GCSEs as separate results.
Sessions are one-to-one online with a shared whiteboard. A programme begins with a short diagnostic against the pupil's own school and exam board, then works through that pupil's past papers and marks them against the real mark scheme. Leading Tuition's expert English tutors teach pupils at any Twickenham school, whether or not DfE publishes a grade split for it.
The two GCSEs are built differently, and the sessions follow the build. AQA's English Literature specification 8702 has two papers: Shakespeare and the 19th-century novel, worth 64 raw marks and 40% of the grade, and Modern texts and poetry, worth 96 raw marks and 60% of the grade, for a total scaled mark of 160. AQA's English Language specification 8700 also has two papers, Explorations in Creative Reading and Writing and Writers' Viewpoints and Perspectives. A tutor starts from whichever board the pupil's school enters.
For a Year 10 or Year 11 pupil, that means a plan per subject: reading and writing tasks for Language, and set texts and poetry for Literature, each marked against the real mark scheme. Our GCSE English Language tuition and GCSE English Literature tuition pages set out each course, and the A-level English tutors in Twickenham page follows on for pupils who continue to sixth form. The Twickenham tutoring hub lists every subject we teach in the town.

For Clarendon School and Capella House School the grade split is withheld and only entry totals are listed.
No. DfE published the figures on 15 October 2026 and labels the release provisional: approved result amendments that schools requested have not been applied. DfE also says progress measures will not be published for the 2024/25 and 2025/26 academic years, so the counts show what each year group reached, not how much a school added.
The two GCSEs are counted separately and differ by school. At Twickenham School, 89 of 129 English Language entries (69%) are at grade 4 or above against 98 of 127 English Literature entries (77%). At Waldegrave School the grade 9 count is 24 in Language and 43 in Literature. Read each subject's table on its own.

The seven Twickenham schools have 130 English Language entries and 113 English Literature entries below grade 4.
Kneller Hall School has 65 pupils at the end of Key Stage 4, 65 of 65 English Language entries at grade 4 or above and 40 at grade 7 or above.
