DfE's provisional summer 2026 separate GCSE Biology counts for the 5 schools of Watford district, entries beside each cohort.
Book a Free ConsultationLeading Tuition's GCSE Biology tutors in Watford are expert one-to-one online teachers who prepare pupils for the separate GCSE (9-1) in Biology. DfE's provisional summer 2026 table counts 369 Biology entries at the 5 schools of Watford district, from a combined cohort of 898 pupils at the end of Key Stage 4, with 362 entries at grade 4 or above and 233 at grade 7 or above.
Watford here means the GIAS district of Watford, which sits inside Hertfordshire (DfE local authority 919). DfE's Hertfordshire table lists 96 schools with GCSE (9-1) Biology rows, and 5 of them are in Watford district. Every figure below belongs to those 5 schools, not to the county.
Our expert GCSE Biology tutors help pupils across Watford at both Foundation and Higher Tier, building each programme around a pupil's own school, exam board and latest mock paper.
Book a Free Consultation Message us on WhatsAppThe rows are DfE's GCSE (9-1) Full Course entries in Biology, the separate qualification. Pupils who take Combined Science (Double Award) appear in different qualification rows, so a school's Biology entries are a count of its separate Biology entries and not a count of its whole year group. DfE also publishes the number of pupils at the end of Key Stage 4 for each school, and the table sets the two side by side as plain counts.

Watford Grammar School for Boys has 166 Biology entries against a cohort of 224, and Watford Grammar School for Girls has 133 against 211. Westfield Academy has 22 against 243 and Future Academies Watford has 41 against 195. Stanborough Secondary School, which GIAS lists as an other independent school, has 7 against 25. All 5 schools have a published grade breakdown, and for each the counts at grades 1 to 9, U and X add up to the school's total entries.
School membership of the district comes from the GIAS register file edubasealldata20261031, field DistrictAdministrative, read on 31 October 2026. The grade counts come from the DfE key stage 4 school-level subject dataset, version 2.0, read on 31 October 2026 through DfE's public data API. DfE's release page shows the release was published on 15 October 2026 and updated on 28 October 2026, and labels it provisional: approved result amendments that schools requested have not been applied.
DfE counts entries at each grade from 1 to 9, with U and X in separate columns. Two hurdles are read off here, grade 4 and above and grade 7 and above, each as a count of entries with the school's total beside it. Grade 9 and the entries below grade 4 (grades 1 to 3, U and X) complete the picture.
| School | Biology entries | Grade 4 and above | Grade 7 and above | Grade 9 | Below grade 4 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Watford Grammar School for Boys | 166 | 165 | 115 | 46 | 1 |
| Watford Grammar School for Girls | 133 | 131 | 91 | 45 | 2 |
| Westfield Academy | 22 | 21 | 13 | 5 | 1 |
| Future Academies Watford | 41 | 39 | 13 | 1 | 2 |
| Stanborough Secondary School | 7 | 6 | 1 | 0 | 1 |
| Watford district | 369 | 362 | 233 | 97 | 7 |
Watford Grammar School for Boys: 165 of 166 entries at grade 4 or above and 115 at grade 7 or above. The counts are 1 at grade 3, 2 at grade 4, 16 at grade 5, 32 at grade 6, 37 at grade 7, 32 at grade 8 and 46 at grade 9.
Watford Grammar School for Girls: 131 of 133 entries at grade 4 or above and 91 at grade 7 or above. The counts are 1 at grade 1, 1 at grade 3, 2 at grade 4, 11 at grade 5, 27 at grade 6, 16 at grade 7, 30 at grade 8 and 45 at grade 9.
Westfield Academy: 21 of 22 entries at grade 4 or above and 13 at grade 7 or above. The counts are 1 at grade 1, 1 at grade 4, 4 at grade 5, 3 at grade 6, 3 at grade 7, 5 at grade 8 and 5 at grade 9.
Future Academies Watford: 39 of 41 entries at grade 4 or above and 13 at grade 7 or above. The counts are 1 at grade 2, 1 at grade 3, 1 at grade 4, 8 at grade 5, 17 at grade 6, 8 at grade 7, 4 at grade 8 and 1 at grade 9.
Stanborough Secondary School: 6 of 7 entries at grade 4 or above and 1 at grade 7 or above. The counts are 1 at grade 4, 1 at grade 5, 3 at grade 6, 1 at grade 7 and 1 U.
Across the 5 schools, 362 of 369 entries are at grade 4 or above (98.1%) and 233 at grade 7 or above (63.1%). Those two shares pool schools with very different entry numbers, 166 at one and 7 at another, so a district share is not any one school's share. A pupil's own mock paper says far more about their next step than a school row does.
DfE states that it is not possible to calculate Progress 8 for academic years 2024/25 and 2025/26, because there is no KS2 prior attainment data to use. Nothing in these counts measures how much a school added to a pupil's grade, and the counts are entries, not pupils.
Pupils at every Watford school can work one-to-one online with an expert GCSE Biology tutor on the paper topics where their own marks are lowest, at Foundation or Higher Tier.
Book a Free Consultation Message us on WhatsAppGIAS gives Watford as the town for Parmiter's School and Saint Michael's Catholic High School, and gives Three Rivers as their district. They are therefore outside the Watford district cut and outside the totals above. They sit in the same DfE Hertfordshire table, so their separate Biology counts are shown here in a table of their own.
| School | GIAS district Three Rivers | Biology entries | Pupils at end of KS4 | Grade 4 and above | Grade 7 and above |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Parmiter's School | Three Rivers | 92 | 206 | 90 | 78 |
| Saint Michael's Catholic High School | Three Rivers | 32 | 180 | 29 | 12 |
Parmiter's School has 92 Biology entries against a cohort of 206, with 90 at grade 4 or above and 78 at grade 7 or above. Saint Michael's Catholic High School has 32 against 180, with 29 at grade 4 or above and 12 at grade 7 or above. Their grade counts are 2 at grade 2, 1 at grade 4, 1 at grade 5, 10 at grade 6, 17 at grade 7, 23 at grade 8 and 38 at grade 9 (Parmiter's) and 1 at grade 1, 2 at grade 3, 2 at grade 4, 8 at grade 5, 7 at grade 6, 5 at grade 7, 4 at grade 8 and 3 at grade 9 (Saint Michael's).
My son was low in confidence after COVID and the gaps in learning were building up. Using this service helped plug those gaps, rebuild confidence, and improve his ability to learn properly again.
We arranged maths and English tuition ahead of GCSEs and both tutors were brilliant. My daughter's grades improved, and by results day she achieved two grades higher than in her mock exams.
I attended an English bootcamp with Leading Tuition and the experience was excellent. The teacher gave focused attention to the small group while keeping the lessons interactive and engaging.
AQA is one of the exam boards that publishes a GCSE Biology specification, and its specification 8461 is the one read here. Paper 1 assesses topics 1 to 4: Cell biology; Organisation; Infection and response; and Bioenergetics. Paper 2 assesses topics 5 to 7: Homeostasis and response; Inheritance, variation and evolution; and Ecology. Each paper is a written exam of 1 hour 45 minutes, set at Foundation and Higher Tier, worth 100 marks and 50% of the GCSE.
AQA's specification page also states that a minimum of eight experiments are required for single science qualifications and 16 for double science qualifications, and that questions drawing on the practical activities count for at least 15% of the overall marks for the qualification. That is the practical difference between the separate Biology rows counted on this page and Combined Science. Other boards publish their own specifications, so our tutors confirm which board a pupil's school has entered them for. The AQA GCSE Biology 8461 assessment page carries the full detail, and our AQA GCSE Biology tuition page covers the board in more depth.
Each AQA paper is 100 marks in 1 hour 45 minutes, which is 105 minutes, so a pupil has about 1.05 minutes for every mark. Across the two papers that is 200 marks and 210 minutes of writing. Our tutors time past-paper questions inside the session, so a pupil learns what 1.05 minutes a mark feels like at the desk before the exam hall asks for it.
The papers split the specification into 4 topics and 3, with each paper carrying 50% of the GCSE. A pupil whose diagnostic shows marks lost on Paper 1 topics such as Bioenergetics, or on Paper 2 topics such as Ecology, starts there, and the programme is sequenced from the pupil's own marks rather than from the order of the specification. Foundation and Higher Tier sit on the same two papers, so the tier a school has entered a pupil for decides the level of the past papers used.
Tuition is one-to-one and online with a shared whiteboard. A programme begins with a short diagnostic against the pupil's own school and exam board, then works through that pupil's past papers and marks them against the real mark scheme. With 2 papers and 7 topics to cover, the order follows the diagnostic, not the textbook. Progress is reviewed against the pupil's own target grade at agreed intervals, and session notes go to parents after each lesson.
Our expert GCSE Biology tutors teach one-to-one online, working through the seven AQA topics in the order a pupil's own mock paper shows they need, for pupils at any Watford school.

No. The Watford rows count GCSE (9-1) Full Course entries in Biology, the separate qualification, and 5 Watford district schools made 369 of them in summer 2026. Combined Science (Double Award) is a different qualification with its own rows. AQA's page states a minimum of eight required experiments for single science qualifications and 16 for double science qualifications.
In summer 2026 DfE counts 166 at Watford Grammar School for Boys from a cohort of 224, 133 at Watford Grammar School for Girls from 211, 22 at Westfield Academy from 243, 41 at Future Academies Watford from 195 and 7 at Stanborough Secondary School from 25. Together that is 369 entries from 898 pupils at the end of Key Stage 4, and the figures are provisional.
Across the 5 Watford district schools, DfE records 362 of 369 Biology entries at grade 4 or above and 233 at grade 7 or above, with 97 at grade 9. By school, grade 7 or above is 115 at Watford Grammar School for Boys, 91 at Watford Grammar School for Girls, 13 at Westfield Academy, 13 at Future Academies Watford and 1 at Stanborough Secondary School.
GIAS lists the town of both schools as Watford and their district as Three Rivers, so they fall outside the Watford district cut of 5 schools. DfE's Hertfordshire table still lists them: Parmiter's School has 92 Biology entries from a cohort of 206, and Saint Michael's Catholic High School has 32 from 180. Their counts appear in a separate table.
No. DfE published the key stage 4 release on 15 October 2026, updated it on 28 October 2026 and labels it provisional: approved result amendments that schools requested have not been applied. Counts for a school can therefore differ in a later version. DfE also states that Progress 8 cannot be calculated for 2024/25 and 2025/26, so no progress measure sits beside these counts.
AQA 8461 has two written papers, each 1 hour 45 minutes, 100 marks and 50% of the GCSE, at Foundation and Higher Tier. Paper 1 covers topics 1 to 4: Cell biology; Organisation; Infection and response; and Bioenergetics. Paper 2 covers topics 5 to 7: Homeostasis and response; Inheritance, variation and evolution; and Ecology. Questions on the practical activities count for at least 15% of the overall marks.
