Leading Tuition's GCSE English tutors in Watford are expert one-to-one online teachers who plan English Language and English Literature separately, because DfE's provisional summer 2026 tables record Watford Grammar School for Girls with 110 of 208 Language entries at grade 7 or above and Future Academies Watford with 25 of 194, against cohorts of 211 and 195.

Watford here means the Watford district in GIAS, the government's register of schools. DfE does not treat Watford as a local authority, so the five schools below are cut from Hertfordshire's tables, which list 101 schools for English Language and 99 for English Literature.

Our expert GCSE English tutors help students across Watford with both English Language and English Literature, building each programme around a student's own school, exam board and latest mock paper.

Which schools does a Watford English table contain?

DfE's key stage 4 school-level file is organised by local authority, and Watford sits inside Hertfordshire (local authority 919). Cutting the county table by each school's GIAS administrative district gives five schools whose district is Watford and who appear in both the English Language and the English Literature tables: Watford Grammar School for Boys, Watford Grammar School for Girls, Westfield Academy, Future Academies Watford and Stanborough Secondary School. A Hertfordshire average would blend those five with the county's other schools, so no county figure is used as a Watford figure anywhere on this page.

Two more schools carry Watford as their GIAS postal town but are placed by GIAS in the Three Rivers district: Parmiter's School and Saint Michael's Catholic High School. They are read in their own tables, labelled Three Rivers, and are never added to the Watford-district rows. GIAS lists all seven schools as non-selective in its admissions policy field.

The register itself is open to anyone at Get Information About Schools, and the school list on this page follows its bulk file of 31 October 2026.

How are grade 4 and grade 7 counted here?

DfE's file gives, for each school and subject, the number of GCSE (9-1) full-course entries at each grade from 9 down to 1, plus U and X. This page adds the grade 4 to grade 9 counts to give entries at grade 4 or above, and the grade 7 to grade 9 counts to give entries at grade 7 or above. Each share divides by the school's total exam entries in that subject. For every school read, grades 1 to 9 plus U and X add up exactly to DfE's total, so a grade with no row in the file is a count of zero and not a gap.

Each table also shows pupils at the end of Key Stage 4, DfE's cohort count, beside the entries. The two numbers measure different things and are shown side by side so that neither stands in for the other. English Language and English Literature are separate GCSEs, so each has its own table and nothing is added across them.

English Language in summer 2026: what did Watford's schools record?

This table is English Language only, GCSE (9-1) full course, DfE provisional summer 2026, for the five schools in the Watford district. Schools are in order of entries, which is not a ranking. Stanborough Secondary School appears as DfE lists it.

Language against Literature inside each Watford school

The table below puts the two subjects side by side for the five Watford-district schools. Every figure is a count of entries from the tables above, and each subject keeps its own columns.

Westfield Academy's grade 7 or above count is 29 in English Language and 49 in English Literature, from 243 and 229 entries. Its grade 4 or above count moves from 161 to 170. Those are the counts DfE records, and this page offers no explanation for the difference.

Watford Grammar School for Boys records 97 entries at grade 7 or above in Language and 105 in Literature, from 224 entries in each. Watford Grammar School for Girls records 110 in Language from 208 entries and 105 in Literature from 207. Future Academies Watford records 25 in Language and 23 in Literature, from 194 entries in each.

Because the two GCSEs are counted separately, a family should read both of a school's rows, and a Leading Tuition programme treats the two subjects as two plans, each with its own diagnostic.

Our expert GCSE English tutors help students across Watford with English Language and English Literature as two separate one-to-one online plans, each started from the student's own exam board and latest mock paper.

What can these Watford English counts not tell a family?

DfE published the key stage 4 release on 15 October 2026 and describes its data as provisional: approved result amendments that schools requested have not been applied to the aggregations. A school's counts can therefore differ from the final figures. This page reads DfE dataset version 2.0, queried on 31 October 2026.

No Progress 8 exists for these pupils. DfE states that progress measures will not be published for 2024/25 and 2025/26 because pupils in those years had no Key Stage 2 assessments, so nothing on this page measures how much a school added to a student's grade.

A table of counts describes a year group, not one student. Two students in the same Watford school can sit several grades apart, and a tutor works from the student's own latest mock paper and exam board, not from a school's row.

Confidence and progress

My son was low in confidence after COVID and the gaps in learning were building up. Using this service helped plug those gaps, rebuild confidence, and improve his ability to learn properly again.

Amazing tutors!

We arranged maths and English tuition ahead of GCSEs and both tutors were brilliant. My daughter's grades improved, and by results day she achieved two grades higher than in her mock exams.

Great Teaching and Focused Learning

I attended an English bootcamp with Leading Tuition and the experience was excellent. The teacher gave focused attention to the small group while keeping the lessons interactive and engaging.

How do Leading Tuition's tutors work with Watford's GCSE English students?

Sessions are one-to-one online with a shared whiteboard. A programme begins with a short diagnostic against the student's own school and exam board, then works through that student's own past papers and marks them against the real mark scheme. English Language and English Literature each get their own plan, so a student sitting both has two sets of targets. Progress is reviewed against the student's own target grade at agreed intervals, and session notes go to parents after each lesson.

Our GCSE English Language tuition page and GCSE English Literature tuition page cover the exam boards, and the wider Watford tuition page and GCSE maths tutors in Watford sit alongside this one. 91% of Leading Tuition students achieve their desired grades.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are Watford's summer 2026 GCSE English figures final?

No. DfE published the key stage 4 release on 15 October 2026 and labels it provisional, meaning approved result amendments that schools requested have not been applied. The five Watford-district schools in this page's tables are read from DfE dataset version 2.0, queried on 31 October 2026, so a school's counts can still change when DfE updates its figures.

Which schools count as Watford in the English tables?

Five schools have the Watford district as their GIAS administrative district and appear in both DfE English tables: Watford Grammar School for Boys, Watford Grammar School for Girls, Westfield Academy, Future Academies Watford and Stanborough Secondary School. Parmiter's School and Saint Michael's Catholic High School have a Watford postal town but sit in the Three Rivers district, so they are read separately.

How many Watford Grammar School for Girls entries reached grade 7 in English?

DfE records 110 of 208 English Language entries at grade 7 or above, 52.9%, against a cohort of 211. In English Literature it records 105 of 207, 50.7%. Those are entries counted separately for two different GCSEs, so the two figures are not added together. Watford Grammar School for Boys records 97 of 224 in Language and 105 of 224 in Literature.

Why does Westfield Academy's grade 7 count differ between Language and Literature?

DfE records 29 of 243 Westfield Academy English Language entries at grade 7 or above and 49 of 229 English Literature entries, from a cohort of 243. These are counts only, and this page does not explain why they differ. A student sitting both subjects has two separate grades, which is why a Leading Tuition programme sets two separate targets.

Are English Language and English Literature one GCSE or two?

They are two separate GCSEs, and DfE's school tables list them as two separate subjects. Hertfordshire's table has 101 schools for English Language and 99 for English Literature, Each GCSE has its own entries, grades and exam papers, so this page keeps a separate table for each and a student can have one tutor plan for each.

What is the difference between entries and cohort in these tables?

Entries count GCSE (9-1) full-course exam entries in one subject, while cohort counts the pupils at the end of Key Stage 4. Future Academies Watford has 194 entries against 195 pupils in both subjects, and Westfield Academy has 243 Language entries and 229 Literature entries against 243 pupils. DfE gives the two counts separately and this page shows both.

Does Leading Tuition tutor students at Watford schools that are not in the table?

Yes. The tables read the five schools DfE lists for the Watford district in both English subjects, and Leading Tuition's expert GCSE English tutors teach students at any Watford school, whatever its row in DfE's file. A tutor begins from the student's own exam board and latest mock paper, so the table is context for a family and not a condition of tuition.

How does a Watford student start one-to-one online GCSE English tuition?

A family books a free consultation through the button on this page or by WhatsApp. The first step is a short diagnostic against the student's own school and exam board, for English Language and English Literature separately. Lessons then run one-to-one online with a shared whiteboard, using the student's own past papers marked against the real mark scheme, with session notes shared with parents after each lesson.
