How many pupils at each Kingston school are entered for separate GCSE Chemistry?

Each row below is one school's GCSE (9-1) Chemistry entries in summer 2026 beside the number of pupils at the end of Key Stage 4 in the same school, both counts from DfE's school-level table. The last column divides one by the other: entries per 100 pupils is our own ratio of two DfE counts and a count of entries, with no verdict on any school.

The Tiffin Girls' School has 177 Chemistry entries beside 177 pupils and Tiffin School 176 beside 180. Surbiton High School has 114 beside 185 and The Kingston Academy 90 beside 209. At Tolworth Girls' School and Sixth Form the 56 entries sit beside 239 pupils, at Coombe Girls' School 57 beside 241, and at Coombe Boys' School 33 beside 176. Across the 11 schools the 888 entries sit beside 2,042 pupils.

These rows count entries in the single-subject GCSE (9-1) Chemistry qualification, DfE's full-course qualification code AHDJG. Pupils who sit Combined Science are entered for a different qualification, so their entries are not in the table. A tutor reading a school's row therefore learns how many of that school's pupils sit the separate Chemistry papers, and nothing about the rest of the year group's science.

Which grades separate the 11 Kingston schools, when grade 4 and above is 98% or more at every one?

The table below gives DfE's own grade counts. Grades 1 to 3 are added together because the only entry below grade 4 in the 11 schools is a single grade 3; DfE's U and X grade codes are zero at all 11. Each row sums to the school's entries.

Does one Kingston range hide the three schools GIAS lists as selective?

A single Kingston figure pools schools with different admissions policies. The Department for Education's Get Information About Schools register, read on 3 November 2026, gives the admissions policy 'Selective' for The Tiffin Girls' School, Tiffin School and Surbiton High School, and 'Non-selective' for the other eight schools in the table; it lists Surbiton High School's establishment type as 'Other independent school'. The sums below split the 888 entries on that GIAS field and nothing else.

GIAS admissions policySchoolsEntriesGrade 7+ entriesGrade 9 entries
Selective3467444289
Non-selective8421294104
All eleven11888738393

The three schools GIAS records as selective hold 467 of the 888 entries (52.6%), with 444 at grade 7 or above (95.1%) and 289 at grade 9 (61.9%). The other eight hold 421 entries, with 294 at grade 7 or above (69.8%) and 104 at grade 9 (24.7%), and 420 of their 421 entries are at grade 4 or above (99.8%). The pooled 83.1% at grade 7+ sits between the two group shares and is the share of neither group.

What does one-to-one online Chemistry tuition start from at each school?

Sessions are one-to-one online on a shared whiteboard. A programme opens with a short diagnostic against the pupil's own exam board and latest mock paper, then works through past papers marked against the real mark scheme, with session notes sent to parents after each lesson.

A school's row shapes the first questions a tutor asks, not the plan itself. At Southborough High School the 50 entries split into 7 at grade 4, 12 at grade 5, 9 at grade 6, 5 at grade 7, 11 at grade 8 and 6 at grade 9, so 28 sit at grades 4 to 6 and 22 at grade 7 or above. At The Holy Cross School, 27 of 49 entries are at grades 5 and 6 and 22 at grade 7 or above; at Tolworth Girls' School and Sixth Form, 15 of 56 are at grade 6 and 39 at grade 7 or above. Where the counts gather at grades 5 and 6, the work is the step from 6 to 7. At The Tiffin Girls' School, 161 of 177 entries are at grade 8 or 9, and the work is the marks between an 8 and a 9.

The tutor then asks which specification the pupil has been entered for, how the latest mock paper marked out and which topics lost the marks, and builds the programme from those answers. GCSE Chemistry is set by AQA, Pearson Edexcel and OCR; our GCSE Chemistry tuition page covers the boards, and our Chemistry tutoring service gives the wider picture. For the same borough, our GCSE Biology tutors in Kingston upon Thames page reads DfE's summer 2026 counts for separate Biology, and our GCSE maths tutors in Kingston upon Thames and GCSE English tutors in Kingston upon Thames pages do the same for those subjects. How should a family read these provisional Kingston Chemistry counts?

DfE labels the release provisional: its Key stage 4 performance release for 2025/26, published on 15 October 2026, says approved result amendments that schools requested have not been applied. The Chemistry table is DfE dataset version 2.0, and this page read it on 3 November 2026.

No Progress 8 exists for these pupils: DfE says it is not possible to calculate Progress 8 for 2024/25 and 2025/26, because no Key Stage 2 prior attainment data exists for these cohorts, and in April 2024 the previous government announced no replacement progress measure for those two years. Nothing here measures how much a school added to a pupil's grade.

Chessington School, with 18 Chemistry entries beside 120 pupils, is not in the tables. The grade 4+, grade 7+ and grade 9 counts, the group sums and the entries-per-100-pupils ratio are our own derivations from DfE's rows, and each school's row says how many entries and pupils the counts rest on.

Amazing tutors!

We arranged maths and English tuition ahead of GCSEs and both tutors were brilliant. My daughter's grades improved, and by results day she achieved two grades higher than in her mock exams.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many Kingston pupils sat separate GCSE Chemistry in summer 2026?

DfE's provisional table counts 888 GCSE (9-1) Chemistry entries at the 11 Kingston upon Thames schools with 30 or more entries, beside 2,042 pupils at the end of Key Stage 4 in those schools. A twelfth school, Chessington School, has 18 entries beside 120 pupils, so the table lists 12 Kingston schools with 906 entries in all.

Is separate GCSE Chemistry the same as Combined Science?

No. DfE's Chemistry rows count the separate GCSE (9-1) Chemistry full course, qualification code AHDJG. Pupils who sit Combined Science are entered for a different qualification, so a school such as Coombe Boys' School, with 33 Chemistry entries beside 176 pupils, shows only its separate Chemistry entries.

How many Surbiton High School entries reached grade 9 in Chemistry in summer 2026?

DfE's provisional table gives Surbiton High School 114 Chemistry entries beside 185 pupils at the end of Key Stage 4. Of the 114 entries, 114 were at grade 4 or above, 103 at grade 7 or above and 55 at grade 9.

Did any Kingston school have a Chemistry entry below grade 4 in summer 2026?

One entry. Coombe Girls' School has 56 of its 57 Chemistry entries at grade 4 or above, with 1 entry at grade 3. At the other ten schools, which hold 831 entries between them, every entry is at grade 4 or above.

Which Kingston schools does GIAS list as selective?

The Department for Education's Get Information About Schools register, read on 3 November 2026, gives the admissions policy 'Selective' for The Tiffin Girls' School, Tiffin School and Surbiton High School, and 'Non-selective' for the other eight schools in the table. Together the three hold 467 of the 888 Chemistry entries.

Are Kingston's summer 2026 GCSE Chemistry figures final?

No. DfE labels the release provisional and says approved result amendments that schools requested have not been applied. The Chemistry table is dataset version 2.0, published on 15 October 2026, and this page read it on 3 November 2026.

Does Leading Tuition tutor Chemistry pupils at Kingston schools that are not in the table?

Yes. The table reads 11 of the 12 Kingston schools DfE lists with Chemistry entries, and Leading Tuition's expert GCSE Chemistry tutors teach pupils at any Kingston school, online and one-to-one. A tutor starts from the pupil's own exam board and latest mock paper, so a school's place in the table changes nothing about the programme.

How does a Kingston pupil start GCSE Chemistry tuition with Leading Tuition?

A family books a free consultation through the button on this page or by WhatsApp. The first step is a short diagnostic against the pupil's own school and exam board. Sessions then run one-to-one online with a shared whiteboard, working through the pupil's own past papers and marking against the real mark scheme, with session notes shared with parents after each lesson.
