Which Enfield schools enter the most pupils for separate GCSE Physics?

DfE counts exam entries for the separate GCSE in Physics. Its cohort figure is a different count, pupils at the end of Key Stage 4. Set side by side, the two show how many of a school's pupils sit Physics as a separate GCSE, and the six schools differ widely: DfE's entries equal 100.0% of pupils at The Latymer School, 35.6% at Southgate School, 18.7% at Edmonton County School, 24.5% at Wren Academy Enfield, 30.0% at The Lea Valley Academy and 16.5% at Kingsmead School. These shares are our own division of DfE's two counts, entries over pupils.

Edmonton County School5026818.7%
Wren Academy Enfield4518424.5%
The Lea Valley Academy4214030.0%
Kingsmead School4024216.5%

At The Latymer School DfE counts 190 entries and 190 pupils, two counts that are the same number. The six schools together hold 450 of the 763 entries in DfE's Enfield table and 1257 pupils at the end of Key Stage 4. Pupils taking Combined Science (Double Award), a different qualification, are not in these rows, so no school's whole year group is read as having sat Physics.

How do the entries spread from grade 9 down to below grade 4?

The table gives DfE's grade counts for each school's separate Physics entries. The last column is our own sum of grades 3, 2, 1, U and X, headed below grade 4 or ungraded.

Our own sums give the share of entries at grade 4 or above as 100.0% at The Latymer School (190 of 190), 98.8% at Southgate School (82 of 83), 100.0% at Edmonton County School (50 of 50), 100.0% at Wren Academy Enfield (45 of 45), 90.0% at Kingsmead School (36 of 40) and 71.4% at The Lea Valley Academy (30 of 42). Three schools have every entry at grade 4 or above: The Latymer School, Edmonton County School and Wren Academy Enfield.

The Lea Valley Academy's 12 entries below grade 4 or ungraded are 4 on grade 3 and 8 ungraded, counting DfE's U rows. Set against its 140 pupils at the end of Key Stage 4, its 42 entries equal 30.0% of pupils.

What does Get Information About Schools say about these six schools?

Get Information About Schools, the Department for Education's register of schools, was read on 3 November 2026. Its admissions policy field records The Latymer School as Selective and Southgate School, Edmonton County School, Wren Academy Enfield, The Lea Valley Academy and Kingsmead School as Non-selective. Enfield's range at grade 4 or above, from 71.4% to 100%, is therefore a set of six separate profiles and not a borough average; The Latymer School has 94 entries at grade 9, against 8 at Southgate School and 10 at Wren Academy Enfield. Our Latymer School 11+ tuition page covers that school's entry route.

Where does a one-to-one Physics plan start at each school?

A tutor reads a school's counts as context and the pupil's own mock paper as the starting point. The first session asks which marks a pupil is missing, topic by topic, against the pupil's own exam board. The counts below describe each school's entries and do not describe any individual pupil.

The Latymer School. 190 entries from 190 pupils: 94 on grade 9, 54 on grade 8, 29 on grade 7, 11 on grade 6 and 2 on grade 5. With 177 of 190 entries at grade 7 or above, the plan for a pupil here is built around full-mark accuracy on the Higher papers, with 13 entries on grade 5 or 6.

Southgate School. 83 entries from 233 pupils, with grade 7 the most common result at 20 entries, then 18 on grade 6 and 17 on grade 8. 45 of the 83 entries are at grade 7 or above, so 38 are below it; a tutor's work with these pupils is on the marks between their own grade and grade 7.

Edmonton County School. 50 entries from 268 pupils, with grade 6 the most common result at 22 entries and 10 on grade 5. All 50 entries are at grade 4 or above and 17 are at grade 7 or above.

Wren Academy Enfield. 45 entries from 184 pupils, split 10 on grade 9, 4 on grade 8, 8 on grade 7, 12 on grade 6, 10 on grade 5 and 1 on grade 4. Every entry is at grade 4 or above, the same as at two other Enfield schools.

The Lea Valley Academy. 42 entries from 140 pupils. 30 entries are at grade 4 or above, with grade 4 the most common result at 13 entries, and 12 are below grade 4 or ungraded. For these pupils a tutor spends the early sessions on the topics that hold marks at the grade 4 boundary.

Kingsmead School. 40 entries from 242 pupils, 36 at grade 4 or above and 4 below it. The most common results are grades 5 and 6, each with 10 entries.

Confidence and progress

My son was low in confidence after COVID and the gaps in learning were building up. Using this service helped plug those gaps, rebuild confidence, and improve his ability to learn properly again.

Amazing tutors!

We arranged maths and English tuition ahead of GCSEs and both tutors were brilliant. My daughter's grades improved, and by results day she achieved two grades higher than in her mock exams.

Great Teaching and Focused Learning

I attended an English bootcamp with Leading Tuition and the experience was excellent. The teacher gave focused attention to the small group while keeping the lessons interactive and engaging.

How do Leading Tuition's tutors work with Enfield's GCSE Physics pupils?

Sessions are one-to-one online with a shared whiteboard. A programme begins with a short diagnostic against the pupil's own school and exam board, then works through that pupil's past papers and marks them against the real mark scheme. Progress is reviewed against the pupil's own target grade at agreed intervals, and session notes go to parents after each lesson.

The exam board a school enters a pupil for sets the papers, so our tutors confirm it first: see our AQA GCSE Physics tuition, Edexcel GCSE Physics tuition and OCR GCSE Physics tuition pages. The GCSE Physics tuition page covers tiers and the wider specification, and our Physics tutoring service gives the subject picture across year groups. 91% of Leading Tuition students achieve their desired grades.

The same DfE table underlies our GCSE Chemistry tutors in Enfield, GCSE Biology tutors in Enfield and GCSE Maths tutors in Enfield pages, and tutoring across Enfield is collected on the Enfield page.

Our GCSE Physics tutors teach pupils from any Enfield school online, one to one, working through the pupil's own past papers with the real mark scheme.

Which other Enfield schools appear in DfE's Physics table?

DfE's Enfield table lists 20 schools in all. The 14 outside the six above have between 1 and 28 Physics entries, 313 between them, and their grade counts are not read here. Each school is listed with its entries.

SchoolPhysics entries

Laurel Park School26
Chace Community School21
Winchmore School21
St Anne's Catholic High School for Girls19
Heron Hall Academy17
Palmers Green High School16
Enfield Grammar School1

Enfield Grammar School has 1 entry, and DfE's row carries no grade breakdown for it; the school also falls below the minimum of 30 entries used for the grade tables. Palmers Green High School has 16 entries, the fewest of the 14 with a grade breakdown.

The 14 schools hold 313 entries between them. Lift Aylward, Oasis Academy Enfield and St Ignatius College each have 28 entries, the most of any school outside the six. These are entry counts in a provisional table, and a pupil at any of the 20 schools can take the same one-to-one online sessions described above.

Read together, DfE's Enfield table puts 450 of 763 separate Physics entries at the six larger schools and 313 at the other 14. A parent at one of the 14 can still read the pupil's own school against the six profiles above, since the grade structure of the GCSE is the same, 9 to 1, at every school.

What do these figures leave open?

DfE labels the release provisional: its data set was published on 15 October 2026 as version 2.0, and DfE's release page says the data is based on results data that awarding organisations supply to the department, including amendment requests made by schools during the autumn checking exercise.

No Progress 8 exists for these pupils: DfE states that it is not possible to calculate Progress 8 for academic years 2024/25 and 2025/26 because no Key Stage 2 prior attainment data is available. Nothing here measures how much a school added to a pupil's grade. Read DfE's own explanation on DfE's Key stage 4 performance release.

A school's grade 4 or above share describes a year group's entries, not an individual child, and the shares on this page are our own sums of DfE's grade rows, not figures DfE states for any school. A tutor measures how far a pupil has come with a short diagnostic against the pupil's own exam board.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are Enfield's summer 2026 GCSE Physics figures final?

No. DfE's data set of school-level subject results, version 2.0, was published on 15 October 2026 and DfE labels the release provisional, so a school's counts can still change. This page reads the separate GCSE (9-1) Physics rows for Enfield's 20 listed schools, retrieved on 3 November 2026.

How many Enfield pupils sat separate GCSE Physics in summer 2026?

DfE's table counts 763 separate GCSE (9-1) Physics entries across 20 Enfield schools, and 450 of them are at the six schools with 30 or more entries, from 40 at Kingsmead School to 190 at The Latymer School. Entries are exam entries, not a count of pupils.

Is this the separate GCSE in Physics or Combined Science?

The separate GCSE (9-1) Physics, DfE's full-course qualification for the subject. Pupils taking Combined Science (Double Award), a different qualification, are not in these rows, so the table cannot show how many pupils in a year group sit Combined Science.

Does 100% at grade 4 or above mean every pupil at the school did well?

No. A 100% share means every Physics entry reached grade 4 or above, and it describes entries, not individual children. The three schools at 100%, The Latymer School, Edmonton County School and Wren Academy Enfield, have 177, 17 and 22 entries at grade 7 or above, so their grade profiles are very different.

How many Enfield Physics entries finished below grade 4 in 2026?

Across the six schools with 30 or more entries, 17 of 450 entries were below grade 4 or ungraded by our own sum of DfE's grade rows: 12 at The Lea Valley Academy (4 on grade 3 and 8 ungraded), 4 at Kingsmead School and 1 at Southgate School. The other three schools have none.

Why is my child's Enfield school not in the grade tables?

The grade tables read the six schools with 30 or more separate Physics entries. DfE's table lists 14 further Enfield schools with between 1 and 28 entries, and each appears in the school table below with its entries.

Why does The Latymer School look different from the other five?

The Latymer School has 190 Physics entries from 190 pupils at the end of Key Stage 4, and 94 of those entries are at grade 9. Get Information About Schools records its admissions policy as Selective and the other five schools as Non-selective, so Enfield's range is read school by school rather than as one borough figure.
